Didn't Lucroy during the offseason say he wants to play for a contender?

Also, Cespedes not in today's line-up (shocker). Ugly line-up with De Aza leading off. ugh

Should've traded one of our 98 minor league outfielders to get Clippard...not a great move.

Clippard/Warren (or Severino)/Betances is a hell of a drop off from Betances/Miller/Chapman - but it's worth it.

Now to trade the Rangers Beltran and Mccann for Profar/Gallo.

...or - hey - the Indians suddenly need a catcher. Maybe we can swing them Beltran/Mccann and get one more prospect?

O fuck this subway series couldn't come at a worse time. Ya know the scum ass Yankees are just gonna shit on our lives

That being said is there an avatar bet happening?

Lucroy wanted Indians to drop his option for 2017.

According to Nightengale, Cleveland also wanted to Lucroy to be the backup C to Gomes next season.

Lucroy, who had the Indians on his non-trade list, vetoed the trade Sunday morning when the Indians would not only provide financial incentives for him to accept the deal, but also would not guarantee that he would be their everyday catcher in 2017, a person with direct knowledge of the trade told USA TODAY Sports.

Yet, since they also have injured Yan Gomes under contract through 2019, the Indians plans to reinstall Gomes as their everyday catcher next year. Lucroy would have been the backup catcher, playing first base and DH, in essence, killing his free agent value.

The best way to chronicle this series of strange plot twists is with a calendar, and this one begins with the Jays’ long-awaited return to genuine World Series–contender status, driven by the acquisition of Price from the Tigers last July. He was gone three months later–the only ERA he represented in Toronto being 2.30 over 11 regular season starts–in one of the best non-moves in the recent history of the Blue Jays. It wasn’t his continued presence that mattered to the Jays, but what his coming and, perhaps more importantly, his going, represented. Good teams pay premiums to rent players who leave town quickly—and paying for Price not only made the Jays a better team, it meant the organization saw itself as the sort of team that rents pitchers of his calibre.

Instead of either extreme, though, the 2015 Blue Jays did something different, something winning teams do all the time but is rare enough in Toronto to cause double takes. They paid for their rental, then let him make his money elsewhere and used the cash to sign two players who offered more bang for the buck. Price and his career-worst 2016 season now reside in Boston, and for less than the $30 million he’ll earn this year, the Blue Jays are paying J.A. Happ ($10 million) and Marco Estrada ($13 million)—and each is having a better year than last season’s big-name acquisition.

This anecdote would not be earth-shaking to contemplate almost anywhere else. Big-money free agents sometimes disappoint, and bargains are everywhere if you’re able to properly assess talent—it’s just that, again, this is Toronto.

Ominous news for #Marlins: Colin Rea scheduled to undergo elbow MRI tomorrow.

Was just told the Mets believe they are out on both Bruce and Lucroy.

Haha, poor Indians.

Sweep today, PLZ.

EDIT: Just saw they got Miller. Don't feel so bad for them now. He's a good pitcher. I'm glad he's gone from the AL East, but don't like the Yankees getting good returns which it sounds like they did.

Good, worry they'll trade Rosario.

We now have 7 prospects in the BA's and MLB.com's top 100. Beltran might be able to get another.

Time to tank the rest of the season and get a top ten pick in next year's draft.

Lucroy gave brief explanation of decision : wants long-term gain not short term gain.

LOL. He only had one year left beyond this year and the Indians just acquired the best BP arm besides Chapman and likely aren't done building a deep playoff roster.

So how's the haul for Miller? Could they have gotten more?
We added an outfielder with very good bat speed and plus power and is a top 20/25 prospect, a back-end top 100 prospect who should be a middle of the rotation guy, and two interesting bullpen arms. It's a great haul.

Cashman did work.

Oh I didn't know he was that good. Damn, cashman back at it again.

I think he just needs a change of scenery. Still has some upside.

I think so too, but i doubt there's a decent trade to be made right now. He'd be more affordable in the offseason.

Can't count out the dbacks on trading really low right now though.

Per @bnightengale, #Indians told Lucroy he would be backup C/1B/DH in 17, with Gomes regular C. Team says it simply made Lucroy no promises.
