Naughty Dog Announces Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

First ND game I don't give a shit about....

The designs look like they were made by some terrible indie company that was just started by some focus group. This industry is in shambles.

So i did some research on some of the threads on here and the same people calling this game woke are in the witcher 4 reveal thread calling that game woke and were in the ghost of yotei reveal thread calling that game woke as well. If you start labeling everything as woke including games that haven't even been released yet, then all you're doing is showing your ass and ur bias which is that you hate female protagonists. That's my last comment on the 'woke' topic because i'm frankly exhausted from talking about it.

What is SF pretensions?

The way it starts with a translated alien language and a prophecy quote, suggesting that we should take this story and lore seriously. The title suggesting a story on a cosmic scale.

Then it switches to some boilerplate space bounty-hunter stuff, laden with product placements, before ending in full blown kitsch with anachronistic use of 80's music...

Like, what's the tone?

Returnal by way of Guardians Of The Galaxy with hack'n'slash gameplay? But... Intergalactic. With Prophecies and Heresies...

It doesn't track for me. And undercuts what is, objectively analysed, a really beautifully executed cinematic.

I dunno. This just seems like their take on Guardians of the Galaxy. With less of the charm.

Will have to see more of course but this teaser doesn’t inspire confidence.

Don’t give a shit about the political sensibilities of the designers. It is what it is and doesn’t make the game good or bad. But I understand why people get annoyed at the overt coding in the character designs. It’s cartoonishly targeted at that crowd.

Maybe you can collect various wigs from across the galaxy

That would honestly be more fun and rewarding than the frickin' ponchos in Jedi: Fallen Order.

I wonder what the developers were smoking when they thought:
- "Hey, let's give the players what they really crave; blue ponchos, brown ponchos, gray ponchos, orange ponchos, red ponchos, yellow ponchos, yellow ponchos with white, red ponchos with yellow, green ponch-"
- "How about one single brown jacket that's not a poncho?"
- "Sure, throw it in, but make it more like an itty-bitty vest!"

Why can't we criticize ugly character design from western games specially from SONY? There was no need to make her bald. It added nothing.
What do you mean? You can - and people can respond... because this is a discussion forum and not everyone is gonna agree.

For me, the character design doesn't work because there is no design. The eye-patch woman on the video monitor? Not great, extremely derivative, but an eye patch is something to add personality. A bald woman in a singlet? For a game that's clearly trying to steal from James Gunn, it's missed a lot of the fun of the character designs of his films. The best she's got is her jacket - which puts the design in the same league as the current Marvel slop where the characters are all the same personality whose only distinguishing features are their costumes. The presentation looks like a character from TLOU2 was plopped into a hastily slapped together "generic sci-fi" test set with some 80s synth slathered on top. I don't give a fuck how many YouTuber commenters rub one out to her or not - the MC's design is indicative of the overall problem I have with this trailer: it has no soul.

And now someone can quote my rant, and demigod demigod will leave a laugh emjoi, because this is a discussion forum.

I get the impression its on purpose. Dr.Uckmann and his inner circle seem to be doubling down instead of absorbing constructive feedback. Him and his cohorts might perceive actual genuine criticism and concern as just being "hate" or something myopic like that.

They might not say it out loud, but it does seem to surface in their work. Some 10 years ago, this would've been consider bad business practice, but apparently "The Druck" knows better.
He's the lead in his studio, he has carte-blanche to do whatever tf he wants. If it loses money, than it will be on him and Sony will have to adjust. He doesn't need to absorb any feedback that's a very entitled way to look at the world.

Can't comment on anything since we didn't see any gameplay, I hope this is more than just another action adventure. I also didn't like when that woman turned around pressed some random buttons and she got the bounty, would rather have her just click a clicker or something or tablet.

Also, for those who want a badass blond bounty hunter, you can always go back to Samus.

I have nothing against female protagonists in games, but could I please, PLEASE have even one with a male one again?

I'm surprisingly underwhelmed by this teaser. Sure. graphics and production values are great, but otherwise... I don't know. It couldn't grab my attention in any other way than with it's nice and comfy 80's aesthetics.

I’ve already said the MC is woke, but go ahead and mention me for no reason. Also I gave you a laugh emoji just now since you’re begging for it, enjoy.

You do you. I'm sure it will go swell if you completely plug your ears, close your eyes and don't at least give a listen to your wider customer base once in a while.

But, hey, him and his team seems to fully believe in this. Maybe there's more to it than this trailer. Its not a great first impression.

My posts about this kind of thing speak for themselves. I'm not woke deranged, but I can recognize it for what this is.

What some people did to Druckmann and ND when Part 2 leaked was truthfully pathetic and disgusting. I have criticisms, and strong ones of that games plot (Lev'a story was ridiculous and a lesser rehash of the Joel-Ellie dynamic) but the response was overboard.

What I find nuts is that ND seems to have designed this to piss off "all the right people". Ethnically ambiguous and buff woman with a shaved head? Product placement up the wazoo for something supposedly set thousands of years in the future? Come on.

For me Abby was the best thing about TLOU2, but that doesn't mean I can't still recognise edgy cynicism in their future games which is plainly designed from a standpoint of clumsy political agenda. At this point it's just really tiresome, and a reason for me at least to be dubious of the game from now on.

It may have the most incredible gameplay ever and I wouldn't care.
I am not looking at this character for 30 hours. Fuck that. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
From behind she will look like a guy, relax.

He views his games as art now, more than anything, and usually artist don't conform. Even though it's the most conforming thing to do this in a way. I'm not saying I like the character design, I would much play something that looks Niel Drukman. And naked.

Besides the character design i don't like… i was expecting Savage Starlight.
And a trailer that would be more bombastic, sponsorless, darker, not showing around their past games… But above all else i didn't like the 80's neon space vibe.

Only a teaser… Let's just wait for more info and images.

Sony's main problem is giving their internal teams FULL freedom. Which is a problem in this case.

I see why people assume more Sony involvement means better games, but the Twisted Metal reboot was violent dark horror until Sony got heavily involved with the opinion that violent dark horror has no mass appeal, then it became colorful punk clowns with confetti guns (yes, literally) for a while before it was cancelled.

Screw the 80s. Seriously done with the nostalgia pandering. By the time this game gets out, the 80s wank will have been 5 years longer than the 80s itself.

Nostalgia baiting is so played out, especially faux-eighties.

Member Adidas sneakers?! Member CD's?! Member scanline CRT TV's??! With remote controls you couldn't find???!!!!?!?!

Fuck off.

You have warpdrive / FTL technology and your videocall seamless switches around monitors through the ship based on your movement but you're telling me the only way to accept an incoming call (???) is by finding a remote control for the tv?????

This dumb faux eighties science fiction is always at diametric odds with itself.

Somehow they checked all the boxes. Woman of color, strong, man shaved, lesbian.
Vs what? Excluding the other entries in Uncharted and The Last Of Us, most of Naughty Dog's main characters are white people. I don't see what Color has to do with a new IP, because if the lead was a white women there would still be belly aching from some.
