Naughty Dog Announces Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

ND needs a proper flop for Sony to react to Druckmann's ways of running the studio and I have to say they're on a very good path, especially considering they're selling this as a new IP. TLoU 1 and 2 had very interesting first trailers, this looks super super generic and the design of the main character will automatically drive some people away.

game should have been called

"neil druckmanns nostalgia overload"

And you think the radical right is immune to partake in online harresment, boycott campaigns and tone-deaf slandering? Oh you sweet summer child.
What is with leftist loonies using "sweet summer child" as some kind of insult? Just makes you sound like some ignorant hill billy.

Why can't we criticize ugly character design from western games specially from SONY? There was no need to make her bald. It added nothing.
Her having a shaved head is the least of its design problems lol. Look at size of those shoulders and arms! Nothing female about that.

Character looks uninteresting, getting guardians of the Galaxy vibes which I'm so sick 🤢 of seeing.
Concord was similar trying for that sci fi hero vibe with witty jokes and characters.

But GotG movies make tons of money and all get good reviews too.

So it's not surprising Sony latched onto some similar themed games riding that kind of fun sci fi setting.

Hahahahahahahahah!

All of that 'you just wait to see what ND's been cooking!' over the past 3 years and it's just 2 of the most bland, bog standard BlackRock girl boss characters that you've seen in every other single AAA 2024 game.

I'd say you couldn't make it up, but this is Cuckmann's ND, and the studio clearly died when Hennig and Straley left.

Enjoy convincing us you're excited for this one bros.
Trailer is a bit meh.

But I think its a good thing.

What they are showing is actual game. How it will feel to play.

Unlike, say Ghost of Yotie trailer. That one has vista shots cherry picked to get one hyped.

I prefer this approach. Stuff that I will see for 5 minutes in 30 hrs playthrough should not be a focus of trailer.

This middle aged woman isn't going to be running around getting in and out of spacesuits bounty hunting with an energy sword around the galaxy, is she.

No, she's going to spend a relatively sedate 6 months in a zero gravity space station looking at plants and shitting in a bag before coming back to Earth and resuming her life as a real human woman.

Vertical pyramid creates another horizontal pyramidal discord so the same horizontal pyramid doesn't look at the vertical pyramid.

Classic.

Maybe you can collect various wigs from across the galaxy
Could be more than that.

The branching quest lines with no turning back can be game changing.

Do you travel to Galaxy A to find wigs made from the armpits of lizard men? Or explore unknown dungeons on Earth to find the old man rumoured to be the best hair plugger who uses horse hair?

This trailer with descriptive audio is cracking me up

(Timestamped at 1:05)

"In a small bathroom a young multiracial woman uses clippers to buzz down her scalp"

Reminds me of that Microsoft presenter from a few years ago "I'm a caucasian man with glasses and a beard. I go by he/him."

Wait. Naughty Dog posted this!?

I don't care about how attractive she is, to be honest. I care that it feels like the same old character design with the same old personality that we've seen countless times before. In the same aesthetic, with the same tone that we've also seen countless times.

I am massively disappointed by how tired this all feels for a ND project.
It all comes down to the execution in the final product. I've been on these forums a long time and remember arguments with people saying TLOU looked generic, "just another zombie game" (which were being done to death at the time), between the time of its teaser and first gameplay. I also remember the "Dude Raider" accusations for Uncharted

Technically very accomplished, but it came across to me like a complete creative mess.

The title is terrible, simultaneously overblown sounding and vaguely anonymous, I literally have no idea what tone they are pitching at... It seemed like half-way between Guardians Of The Galaxy and something with hard SF pretensions.

I really don't know what to think.

To be truthful the first thing that popped into my head as a point of reference was Zardoz, because it seemed similarly misguidedly self-indulgent.

What is SF pretensions?

Also can I just say "Intergalactic - The Heretic Prophecy" is the most whackass, lame ass, uninspired chatGPT-rendered name I have ever seen coming from such a big studio?

They really couldn't come up with anything else? Anything?

That Porsche logo means it may get digitally delisted in the future once the licensing deal expires. Maybe by that time it'll be ready for a remaster anyway and they'll replace it with some imaginary fake brand (or renew the licensing deal).

Lol come on man, they are wearing lip gloss, have perfectly plucked eye-brows and hair that just had a curling iron used on it... completely unrealistic. Looks like they're about to go on a date. Not fight killing machines.
They are not in some kind of apocalyptic setting that they no longer care how they look and dress like hobo because they have nothing else to wear.

She owns her very own ship which tells me she has enough money look after herself.

I doubt this game will do as well as Lou ii. And I don't think louii did as well as lou i. A new IP is hard enough to get ramped up successful.

Getting off on a bad foot (YT dislikes already up there) isn't a good sign.

They could get away with all the lbgt and Joel getting killed with louii due to it being a highly rated franchise and anticipated sequel.

But good luck pulling that off with a new IP
TLOU2 ended up doing about half the business of the original TLOU. From Sony's perspective, TLOU2 was one of their most expensive games ever, and a sequel to one of the best received games of all time, so I imagine a 50% decline wasn't exactly pleasing and the game likely underperformed overall. However, don't listen to the non-sense that gets posted around here - the game was still a success and easily a profitable endeavour for all involved.

For this game, expectations for new IPs are always lower than sequels, however, Naughty Dog is near the top of the most expensive developers in the world and commands Sony's biggest budgets. Their legacy is delivering huge hits - new IPs or not. Sony's expectations for their principle studio will be sky high. After TLOU2 underperformed and Factions was outright cancelled, I imagine Sony is expecting Naughty Dog to deliver a big crowd pleasing title that does some of the PS5's biggest software numbers.

You guys just can't keep yourselves from insulting fellow forum members. Bitch shit.
You're right. I shouldn't be mocking people who couldn't guess what a woman looks like from a visual aid. They deserve my pity as I would hate to be in their position. To quote the great philosopher Bono 'Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you'

Just watched the trailer....
ND lost the plot.
What the fuck is that main character? Abomination. Who gave Lev from TLOU2 its own game?
First ND game I am not buying.

This

Unless the gameplay is incredible I have zero interest

This is coming from someone with a massive Last of Us framed picture on his office wall.

I disagree. We will see how the game will turn out but I found the animation and especially her mannerism pretty incredible. So far a solid character. Yes, she is not a beauty but I think it fits the role of a bounty hunter well, I don't see they went out of their way to make her ugly, more like just a pretty generic female soldier. You can argue you need muscles to jump and fight + hair gets in a way, it's exactly the reason people in the military are short shaved as well.

Only thing that bothered me was that she's using the clippers upside down - how did nobody point this out when they made the trailer? Maybe their alternate universe has clippers that work that way, I dunno.

Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross music feels oh so right. Watch Over This Boy from Watchmen one of the greatest tracks in any media for me and its got that same pained vibe. Love it.

Saves about 8% GPU though.

You're white knighting for a virtual woman, an ugly one at that, and you think it's other people that deserve mocking and pity?

Are we doing any bets on how many times during a presser we'll hear the main lead for this say the words "powerful and strong woman" in reference to the character?

I get the impression its on purpose. Dr.Uckmann and his inner circle seem to be doubling down instead of absorbing constructive feedback. Him and his cohorts might perceive actual genuine criticism and concern as just being "hate" or something myopic like that.

They might not say it out loud, but it does seem to surface in their work. Some 10 years ago, this would've been considered bad business practice, but apparently "The Druck" knows better.
