Naughty Dog Announces Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Btw, this random post from 4chan a while back was off the mark on some details, but still seems to may have had some legitimacy. Take it with a grain of salt obviously:

It's cute that Guardians is your first movie, but no... this motif dates back to Alien, Akira, and Cowboy Bebop.

That you think the red jacket is from Guardians is so funny to me.

The red jacket was made popular by Rebel without a Cause. It's been played up across media for decades...
They have even said that, among others, Akira and Cowboy Bebop are influences for this game

80's sci fi was cheesy as hell, heck, you must have seen Kung Fury, that is a parody of 80's Kung Fu and fantasy and also has loads of cheesy lines (deliberately done)

I was so hyped to watch that just now, then I see the main character and am thinking "is she black, is she lesbian, is she asian?" Then I became hopeful and thought to myself, "maybe she is not the protagonist, maybe this is setting up to show us something else." Nope, instant hopes dashed.
So a bit like Alyx Vance from halflife then?

Alyx-Vance.Half-Life-2.webp

What would be the issue anyway if she was both?
Now I understand the HL3 rumours though.

It's sad to see adult triggered and salty because the protagonist of a video game is a bald non white athletic woman. Why are you bringing morals to that ? What's immoral ? If the game has an interesting gameplay, design, story I might buy it. If not I won't. However I will not cry because the protagonist is not a dude fantasy doll or something.
There's games like Stellar Blade for that and it's cool. However I'm not feeling threatened at all and I don't understand why so many young men are angry when any protag is not a manly dude or some kind of fantasy doll. I like interesting protagonists and to me there's much more than skin color/haircut to decide. Many video games are badly written though, that's not new and it was already the case before any diversity came through.
The person is clearly deranged, what did he expect ffs, we all know ND goes realistic with their characters with a slight twist, I was just hoping for more

Really? For some reason I was reminded of Space Dandy.
That reminded you of Space Dandy?!?!?!?:lollipop_confused:

I can see the space pirate inspiration, but outside of that I don't see Space Dandy. Looks a little bit to serious like that one star wars game where you play that female mercenary that came out recently.

Looking at the overall reception, it seems this could follow similar fate to SW Outlaws. Good game that underperforms significantly.
It will sell better than that because ND have much bigger reputation than Ubisoft, but it could still flop in relation to its budget.
When you get the culture war stink like this, it is hard to shake.
It seems like majority of people - and especially of people who buy videogames day 1 - are tired of this multiculturalistic girlbossy marvelized pseudoretro advert-filled bonanza.

Na, sony doesn't need funding from sony for pet shop boys and CD players. It's just showing an 80's vibe with things that were big in the 80's most likely, including those Adidas shoes.

The continued double standard as if the Deloreon in back to the future wasn't product placement. Kaneda's bike is an unofficial Honda. The Car is Initial D is literally a Toyota AE86. Fast and the Furious is entirely product placement.

It's funny because Sony always had a rocky relationship with Porsche, not being officially in Gran Turismo until GT Sport likely due at least in part to contractual obligations with EA.

Product placement can be used for proper world building. I think someone pushed that it is a bad thing and people just like to parrot that.

The hate for Sony is just getting ridiculous, but I guess that what comes with being on top.

SW:O wasnt good by any stretch bro, even paid off reviewers who got trips to disneyland for previews gave it only collective 75 metascore
And it bombed hard in sales :p

I love the 80s/90's art direction and aesthetic regarding the ships UI and the materials in the ship, from the tube tv, to the retro Sony CD Changer to the Adidas hi tops even the ending cut out with the CTR distortion was such a nice touch.

With the main character changing her appearance in the opening, I'm not sure if she is being hunted or doing the hunting, but I love the opening that adds that mystery.

Day 1

midnightAI midnightAI Respect. but I don't even know if people like that even get all those references and what those design choices are, some on here didn't even fucking know the design happening within a lot of what we saw from that trailer has nothing to fucking do with shit happening now, those are literally designs from decades ago.

but if they don't know (like...don't actually understand anything about design or art), they'll not see the references or nods to those classics.

Not everyone gets all that and this thread shows a fuck ton of people who seem to be either new to Sci-fi from that time frame or simply don't actually know much about design or something (or both)
And from the looks of it it looks like and exploration game, the protagonist is stranded on a isolated planet. Should be awsome.

I promise, they either are not old enough to get any of those references or don't know much about design or anything of the sort.

Its always cute and funny when someone thinks something is trying to be something else thats new, cause they are uneducated about the actual reference being made lol

Like when a kid says a character is wearing a yellow jumpsuit cause its trying to be like Kill Bill, you always get a chuckle and just watch as they do the hamster wheel run with weird, young assumptions lol

Just look at em like this

As am I. Thankfully I believe ND has writers skilled enough to embed whatever message they want to include in an actual story rather some preachy, heavy-handed sermon like what Bioware did. Pretty massive difference there, imo.
Like barves and bigot sandwuiches ? .. genius writing there mate.. cmom 😅

But you’re calling it sad that these young men are sticking to their values. Loosely speaking: it’s the same value set that brought about advanced civilization. You want to see this torn down as some twisted art installation? Resist the demiurge friend.

I think we already had this discussion. I don't give a fuck what other people think - I played it, and found plenty there to enjoy and consider it good. 75 actually means a good (though not spectacular) game btw.
U can find it good, but when concord got 62, redfall 56 and SW:O got only 75, it means what it means, scales for AAA games is from 50 to 100, not from 0 to 100 which means game that got 75 is barely avg even according to those prof journo sellouts, according to players ofc its much worse :)

These stylistic choices regarding the protagonist could not have come at a worse time, the general gaming audience is so sick of this shit in 2024. It's not just gaming either, these unmistakeable signifiers of the kind of people working on these projects have destroyed many a Hollywood franchise as well. In 2024 and beyond, it's extremely important for your game to not become a meme in a negative way on the internet, the way Concord did. From what I gathered, Concord was a highly polished, decently competent shooter which crashed and burned solely because the internet decided they had had enough of woke garbage. I would honestly like to read an in-depth exposé on what makes higher ups in the gaming industry and Hollywood light fire to to billions of dollars and counting so far. Surely it isn't just BlackRock? These guys all seem like true believers in wokeness

This all sounds good to me. Shame the trailer showed none of it.
Don't worry they will. I remember Druckmann saying he was heavily inspired by Elden Ring for this new game, so I'm really hoping it to be just one planet, and heavy exploration with almost no hand holding.

An actress with a natural ability to fit with any interesting hairstyle:

Druckmann: "Bald! Make her BALD!"
Sorry, but that is an ugly woman. You can tell by the bullring in the nose - ugly chicks think that makes them look better when it actually makes them look even worse.
I can't describe why pictures of Neil Druckmann give me the creeps. I think it's the faded, glassy look in his dead eyes and how it creates an unsettling counterpoint to the fairly masculine-looking beard.

There's a huge difference between putting those at key moments and trying to throw one-liner's every 3 minutes 5 seconds. It's one of the worst things these nostalgia bait stuff gets wrong. Execution of those also tend to be awful.

Has Naughty Dog ever had a major release score under an 83?

Does anyone in the industry have a better track record than them? They're easily the preeminent studio in the industry and really have been since.

Oh it showed it, you have to know what its referring to first though so.....yea lol
Love that atmosphere right off the bat. Of course the usual suspects got triggered.

The team likely has a lot that love that 80s/90s time frame with Sci-fi and Anime. I was able to spot a lot of that influence in the design even before Pedro Motta Pedro Motta provided that tid bit.

You have to have an eye for some of that to see all those references, art direction and iconography choices.

Those that can't see it, may not be able to grasp that type of thing, they need low hanging fruit lol

Definitely an agenda being pushed, which I'm tired of. But it never stopped me loving the Last Of Us. Nothing here to make me excited unfortunately so as a trailer its failed. But this is ND, so who knows.

Yup ppl call it concord 2 and last of concord in yt comments, its 24k likes to 27k dislikes currently, on yt trailer, if u got add on u can see dislikes despite yt hiding them xD
Lol, those aren't really people. Mostly just loons who have an anureism anytime they deem something woke. Game will probably have a 4.5 user meta score but be nominated for GOTY and sell 15+ million copies. Just incels inceling

Not everything is about sex, bald women just come off as combat ready/warriors, i swear neogaf is full of of 14 year olds
So in order to be combat ready you need make characters bald and ugly? Is that only way to make characters look tough for you guys?

Jesus Christ! This god damn sci-fi, is it that hard to ask to have bad ass characters thats also good looking?

Many of my circles are from people who are into games, movies, etc. None of the women in them ever expressed tastes that suggest interest in bald space lesbians.

The characters they are into however include: FFXV's party, characters from cultivator novels, characters from BL or quasi-BL mangas, Link.

Among the "trying to appeal to the female crowd" Larian understood it the best:

Then the games not for them ... tough

I'll buy it and enjoy a new IP from a great studio while you complain about .. (checks notes) ... Hairstyle

U do realise over 60% of young men are single, 30% of them are either virgins or didnt have sex in a year, that is huge demographic devs abandoning if they abandoning young men as their target audience :)
