I don’t really care about politics in games unless it ruins immersion. Otherwise I can pretty much go with anything. Characters preaching about pronouns in a fantasy game… well that’s going to ruin immersion for me and I’ll pass on dragon age. A black Samurai? I’ll pass on that too. White characters in a game set in medieval Bavaria? Seems necessary to have immersion.

A jacked bounty hunter female with a shaved head in a game set thousands of years in the future? Yea, not a problem to me. TLOU2 is an all-timer in my back, and I can’t wait to play an entirely different game from ND.

In before the…..

I’m 28 pages too late.

I have no stock in this argument, but I’m never shocked by the narrow-mindedness on display.

My take on the trailer - it looks like it could be a really fun sci-fi adventure set in an alternate 80’s timeline.

I’m surprised that the Porsche spaceship didn’t breakdown on the way to the planet though. I hope she’s with the AA.

Did not make a good first impression on me. Space stuff is already iffy for me, but the GotG-esque setting makes it worse. When she pulled out the sword I just found it... tired, uninspired.

The character also looks uninteresting and unappealing, and they obviously designed her in such a way to challenge expectations about beauty and femininity. ND really likes that political angle, which is fair enough, but seems to put off a big chunk of people. But from what little we've seen, the MC doesn't look terribly compelling regardless of looks or gender. An "emotional, character-driven" narrative with this generic protag is a tough sell to me.

Actually, its set in the past ;)

I mean, she also a cartoon lol I get the whole bald thing, but seriously...stop using the term "ugly" like an obejctive thing as if ND listed it in the game as some requirement, that is like me saying "I don't get why Anime must have purple hair and need to be ugly" and then show some anime character lol
it’s my personal opinion when I say the looks ugly and I’m sorry I want bad ass looking characters without looking like man in my video game “in my opinion”

Then again it’s their game if ND wants to make character butt ugly they more than free to do so and I’m free not to like it.

I guess you are much more target audience for this type of game.

Shit looks dope, dealing with 3 years of angry man babies about the protagonist will be annoying but we all know they will buy the game when it comes out.

Some of ya’ll act like the women in games is the only interaction you have with the opposite sex so it’s imperative that they represent a fantasy for you.

The MC reminds me of Wraith from Apex Legends, but the design feels like a missed chance for ND. If TLoU leaned into a "progressive" agenda, why not create a non-binary or tomboyish MC with a bit more boldness? Not every game needs sexualization, but this feels almost censored.

While the game looks great, it could’ve been an opportunity to boost ND’s reputation and spark a different conversation—like how Wraith fan art often retains feminine, stylized features.

Didn't know it was mandatory in Israel. I guess that explains it then anyway regarding those photos since it would just be of all the regular people and you're bound to have beautiful people sharing their first 'in gear' photos.

In the US though they have a recruitment problem and they've resorted to things like e-girl tiktok accounts and the US Army games of the past to drive recruitment.

trailer didn't get me hyped. Its ND though so I expect the game will be great.

I don't like seeing Actors I know using there actual faces in game. Seeing photo realistic Kumail Nanjiani face immediately felt wrong.

No issues with main character design except shaved head. Of all the cool options for hair and they take the boring and tech easy option.

Cut to Fighting a robot alien with a sword .........yawn.

Worse ND trailer I can remember. Still i expect the game to be great.

I'm not angry at all. I don't have any emotional investment in Naughty Dog games. I just find the protagonist to be a major turn off, to the point where it's enough for me to pass on the game. The whole time I'm going to be thinking Will Smith is going to walk around the corner to the slap an enemy's face.

Like the game clearly wants to lean in on that 80s/anime/synth sci-fi vibes, but then you've got a "modern audience" protagonist that just clashes with that tone. It doesn't work. People have posted images of Faye Valentine and Motoko, which are examples of designs that would've been way more appealing and appropriate for the style they're going for.

it’s my personal option when I say the looks ugly
Not debating that, merely that the statement "Here is character “combat ready” without needing to be bald or ugly"

makes it sound like "ugly" is some intent or that the team's goal is to do this, when just like you it might merely be their "personal opinion" that a character is pretty or something....

thats it.

My point I made with Realword and you (which I'm not even sure why you don't actually see it lol)

Is that BOTH of you make subjective opinions, but Reals is not treating their view like a bullet point or fact, merely an opinion.

So...I joking when I say Japan is making Anime with dead eyes cause they like ugly, its weird to force an intent by an artist based on YOUR OWN opinion on something you like.

Thats like saying you hate Pizza, thus Pizza Hut MUST be making bad tasting food as a intent, like their goal is to hurt you

It sounds really weird, like you don't understand the view you have, is your own, thus the folks that disagree with you have a different view and are not making it with the core belief if it tasting bad as some end goal

I'm shocked I even need to say this btw

Then again it’s their game if ND wants to make character butt ugly
How do you know their intent is to want this?

If you make a game with a character that looks like this, that is like saying R realwords believes you wish to make a character butt ugly on purpose...

? Yea, I don't really know what that means I buy the same games as you, I simply play more games as I assume the target audience for this is gamers who focus on playing games that are fun.

the final blade is a bit exaggerated for me and the title is a bit anonymous but I like it a lot. I hope to see something more concrete next year

Yes, YouTube comments - the shining beacon of truth and verity.
They can be quite witty actually:

Main objective: Finding a wig

or
'How ugly should the character be?' 'Yes'

Probably cost at least $400 million to make they'll need to sell like 15 million copies to break even so layoffs coming next year?

There are many more, u just gotta read them with open mind, aka not leftist prejudice :)

Honestly kind of a disappointment. Seemed super generic and I can't stand Kumail Nanjiani. Seeing that guy in the trailer is a huge turnoff. I don't know, nothing wowed me in this.

Naughty Dog still consistently produces high quality games, but I am skeptical with the current state of western game development. I need to see more.

True, but I don't know if they are aiming for like a DMC type over the top exaggerated type thing

It could be more otherworldly then we realize. I think its cause we are used to so many of their games being grounded, we may expect something like that here, but this could be like DMC with exaggerated combat and flips and shit lol There seems to be a lot of playfulness in the ship and even the anime playing, I don't know how much of that style will be in the combat , like over the top wild movements

The trailer is meh, but the developer is legendary.
Anyone who says the trailer is great and feels hyped should try pretending it's not made by Naughty Dog, and go see it again.
... and you'll see the truth — it's flat and as generic as FCK. It's not event pretentious as TLOU 2. sad.

Lol, those aren't really people. Mostly just loons who have an anureism anytime they deem something woke. Game will probably have a 4.5 user meta score but be nominated for GOTY and sell 15+ million copies. Just incels inceling
And that's all fine but people can still be critical of something that's successful surely? Whether that be the woke angle of something or the gameplay itself.

The only thing more feminine there seems to be the use of eyeliner and eyeshadow on bright eyes. I would say overall the features in that is even more masculine with the cleft chin. It's amazing what makeup does to people's perception.

Because to me ND’s character design is ugly, I don’t know if that was their intent or not but in my eyes it it’s ugly as fuck.

But as usual, many are critical of a non existent (so far at least) woke angle because we havent seen any gameplay yet. It's baffling to me.

The exact same shit happened with Ghost of Yotei, saw the trailer (and this one), got excited to see the responses on NeoGaf (I used to like doing that) and join in a conversation about the game, instead its people just calling out how woke it is, (no proof of that) or ugly character the character is (when they arent), heck, playing down the graphics when (both) look stunning (I say that but we havent seen any gameplay footage of this one yet, but its ND, it will be stunning)

I can’t fucking wait to see some proper gameplay footage. I suspect there’ll be a hefty serving of crow due when it hits.

I wonder if there’ll be different kinds of combat, other than just melee? Off the back of TLOU 2, it could be something really special.

Also, is it a linear game, or open world?

Anyway, it wouldn’t surprise me if this turned out to be my game of the gen. ND have never let me down.

The backlash The Last of Us Part II received online was one of the worst in gaming history and it still managed to sell over 15M copies (based on leaks).

How the everyday consumer feels is different than the small gaming community online.

If gamers were overly concerned about "attractive" female characters, then Steller Blade and Bayonetta would sell 5-8 million copies in the first 12 months, but they don't.
Maybe the sold 15M but at what price. Game is at 30€ (somewhere ever less) last two years (at least) and there were few sales in that time and the price was 10€.

Well you see, nothing wrong with that, I have no issue with an opinion, I simply don't say things like "needing to" or they "want' this or that etc based on it.

I think she is pretty, but shit I thought that since she was on The 100 lol

I would never say Sony's intent or they want to make the sexist woman from CW lol

That is just my opinion, I don't know what their intent it is tbh, but I can't make a claim of it based on my person like for the character, I got to let the artist explain that themselves
