Man even the music. Is it imossible to have a sci fi game without that early 80s mall sound kit? The "painfully generic and derivative" is outpacing the "woke" for me.

Used to be a big Reznor fan but everything is a riff of the Facebook soundtrack.

Re-watch the trailer, in isolation its actually pretty good insofar as it gets across quite a bit of character information in a relatively concise and clear manner.
As I wrote before, the main issue is the weirdly indeterminate tone; and most significantly it being placed right at the end of a very long, very uninspired show the content of which really drew attention to how closely it conforms to a bunch of tropes that many people are wary -and weary- of.
I get what you are saying, but this wont be the intro to the game though, this is a single cutscene from within the game that roughly explains what is going on (well, kind 2 but we dont know if the other is gameplay). My guess is this was actually done in a rush for TGA's whereas a proper trailer would do a much better job but it's probably just way too early to do that without spending considerable time making it (they'll leave that for a State of Play or Showcase). We had something quite similar in a way with Uncharted 4 initial trailer (they showed even less with that one)

Incredibly underwhelming reveal. Looks bland and generic, from stereotypical main character to concept and overall design, everything's derivative and boring. Not what I'd expect from a new sci Fi IP from ND. The product placement and Pet Shop Boys song felt out of place. And I fucking love Pet Shop Boys. It all comes down to western devs being creatively bankrupt at the moment. It feels like you've seen this a 1000 times already in the AAA space. Hopefully the gameplay delivers and it's fun to play but this was a bad first look.

I’m sure the game will be good. I do have to wonder what’s up with the energy sword. The game seems very far in the future, so why would they use energy sword instead of energy guns. Just seems needlessly dangerous.

Yeah, uh, in no way is that true, but if that makes you sleep better at night lmao. 1 sold significantly better, 2 is incredibly controversial and the show has only covered 1, but have fun seething.

How's factions coming along?
Nah bro, part 2 took the writing to a higher level :) But hey why compare! He was writer for the first game too. Your argument is invalid.

Developer: "Neil, we can't get the character's hair to render properly. It keeps clipping"
Neil: "I have an idea..."
More like:
Dev: Neil we need to put some hair in our main character to make it more appealing
Neil: No way man i like’em bald

This will be amazing to play for sure, but it's a bit suprising they went with this theme which was a bit overplayed by 2020 already with Guardian of the Galaxy being huge and Cyberpunk being the talk of town. It feels a bit off that we have another 80s cyberpunkish game coming,
even the title design has a bit of a Stranger Things vibe going on.

The main character feels "okay", but the "don't even try to tell me what to do" selfenpowerment cockyness feels a bit boring at this point as well - maybe it would actually have been better or in a positiv sense "woke" at this point to create a male hero that can serve as a role model for young boys/teens who are kinda caught in the political crossfire nowadays instead of another kinda cliche strong bipoc person (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I don't know, maybe I am a bit sad that the only studio that is good at more hard hitting storytelling is choosing a at this point very done video gamey aesthetic.
On the other hand I am also happy they just keep working and getting things done instead of throwing plans out the windows all the time, but from the looks of it it definitely feels like they had this in the drawer for a while now, maybe Sony made them do TLOU2 first and that's why this feels a bit dated already.

Come back in a week to see if there's a different. Because there's 10% different favoring hate vs like ratio.
It was 70-30 like/dislike when i went to bed last night an hour after reveal. I called that it would drop down when fanboys who like everything petered out, and the real like/dislike ratio would become obvious. It's only going to go down from here.

It's 40-60% now and should end up around 30/70%.

Tonally way off from the Naughty Dog we've known for the last 15 years. Part of me is glad the main character isn't using a gun, I feel like ND has done all they could with gun gameplay at this point.

Thank you for posting these gifs. Watching them loop has finally highlighted what it is that's been really bugging me about this trailer, but I couldn't put my hand on it. It's shot exactly like TLOU2, not like the 90s anime the studio thinks it's making. The camera pans, angles, cuts, and shot composition - it screams mo-cap volume work in 2024, and not the 90s anime it needs to be for its aesthetic to actually work. It's lighting and materials don't fit the styling, and the camera doesn't create the necessary images, to actually hit its reference points. It doesn't come off feeling "anime-inspired", it comes off feeling wholly surface level.

Anime is far closer to its manga inspirations than contemporary cinema, and that is clearly evident in the images it puts on screen:

The image compositions alone are fucking god-tier compared to that film student 101 stuff I'm seeing in Intergalactic's shots. It's shots just don't have any fucking style to them, and it feels really bland if you're watched as much anime as I have.
Agree with all that but I think maybe THE biggest reason for anime’s appeal is the character design. They have mastered the art of designing cool, compelling, visually striking characters that you love and obsess over even at first glance.

You can’t just take an anime and swap the MC with some ugly western “down to earth” butch lesbian with a buzz cut and expect it to have the same appeal.

I seemed to have hit a nerve here.

You do deserve pity. I do feel sorry for you. I know you're lashing out because you feel every woman hates you. It will get better, you just need to let go of your anger.
I could ask you not to be a dick, but it's in your name, so...

sorry the joke was too succulent and i'm weak :messenger_pensive:

Thats the issue here… Some people like me don’t want any political agenda in video games, it doesn’t matter if is well done or not, the world is full of that shit already.

I would say generally speaking, "agendas" (loosely used) are in the eye of the beholder and as such will always be in games. If person notices it just depends on what side of the aisle theyre on. Many people will be oblivious to "agendas" depending on how subtle the messaging is and whether it fits there thought process...once its noticed though and they are opposed to the idea then all hell breaks loose and they see an agenda in everything.

I also don't think there can be an agenda unless there was something to be an opponent of, in other words, another agenda...e.g. in this instance you could argue the "woke" agenda is meant to combat the agenda of consistently having stereotypical/archetype of sexy female lead or overtly masculine men.

Just my two cents

it's not "someone", like this is not a real person, it is a character design.
A character design that is the likeness of the voice actress doing the voice for said character. In fact, rendering wise this is up there as some of the best character rendering ever created in game (if it is indeed realtime). It is VERY close to the voice actress so to say this character is ugly is basically saying the voice actress is ugly (which she most certainly is not)

There is nothing wrong with female leads in games but what is the recent obsession with them in Western studio games?
What's the obsession of making every female character unnecessary sexy if the game devs aren't doing it for the men as well? I don't really have a problem with the sexy female character, but if no one is complaining about that then why complain about Western Devs supposedly making the female characters ugly?
