Naughty Dog Announces Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

I gotta say - all the feigned controversy nonsense aside - I found this the worst trailer NDD has produced to date.
Not because it isn't exceptionally well crafted (it is) or because there's anything wrong with content/characters (there isn't) but because the whole thing is the most cynical, bitter, focus-tested to hell manipulative engineered for 'engagement' piece of media I've this side of Force Awakens. Or Ready Player One... Or Mario Movie.

Every single one of which - ended up being just as shallow, empty, with nothing to say about anything, waste of viewer's time - as their trailers suggested.
And this has the exact same feel about it - from the overindulgent fan-service nostalgia baiting of 80ies and 90ies, to 'this will REALLY get people talking/fighting/never stop arguing' to 'oh look - shiny action shit you totally remember as a kid' etc etc.
NDD even in trailers used to actually have something to say - this - well - doesn't. And I'm not convinced the game will either.

A chick shaving the hair off her head. Where have I seen that before?

Or people will ignore it like they did with Spider-Man 2.
The best scenario was honestly Space Marine 2, where the YouTube grifters initially made a hissy fit over female characters, then once they saw the game was successful, they turned around and said the game was an example for other devs lmao.

Remarkable dumbassery on display.

After the mess called Starfield, finally we'll get the space game we deserve.
Looking at the game descripting the idea is that the protagonist is gonna get stranded in a planet where no one was able to escape, and it will be all about trying to escape that planet. So i would not expect any space exploration.

Concord all over again. This time they don't have the luxury to rely in the 'The Last of Us' franchise name.

Just watched it. First impressions: Unimpressed, but reserving judgment until I know more. The protagonist, at least the way she's presented here, comes off cliche - "she's tough and ain't gonna take no guff," snarky adolescent rebel attitude.... I see that she's one of 5 "aces" and is trying to track down another, so hopefully the cast builds out and becomes more interesting.

I have a built-in suspicion because I didn't like what Druckmann did with either Uncharted 4 or TLOU2. I used to love ND as a studio, but at this point, I need to be sold on the game, and I'm not yet.

I knew that jaguar comercial was terrible coz ppl were referencing it a lot over the internet, but fk, its now a shame to own jaguar, they had to have some srs sales dip after such a fucked up commercial at the jaguar xD
Jaguar sales were cratering long before the rebrand. Which is why they drastically changed it. They need to do something for the brand to survive. Will this save it? Who knows. Better that letting it die.

Practically a shaved head and double nose rings. That's sure someone to bring to a family dinner.
The real problem is caring what your family thinks about who you choose to bring to dinner. Stop living your life by other people’s standards. If this is your baseline though it would explain why so many of you are miserable.

How can people be so salty over a video game character? But tbh, I think Neil loves this stuff. Making them seethe on such a scale must be mesmerizing.
The man is a generational talent I swear.

Wow. Never heard of Hellstar Remina but now I googled it and I regret it.
Hellstar Remina is basically cosmic horror perfection.
But if you want something 'less on the nose' on the same theme - Melancholy by Lars Von Trier is basically the same story too.

An 'AAA' game doing a story anywhere resembling those notes though ...

GoTG success really influenced some recent games.

SW Outlaws
Concord
Intergalactic

All going for that retro sci-fi setting with a female badass lead (or Concord with about half).

It does seem to work for the movies (all highly rated movies making big sales), but games wise doesn't seem as easy to pull off. But key thing is GotG doesn't push the man-girl message.

Women dont think like us, men, do, they need validation of their social circle/friends/family for guy to qualify, and that is good thing, otherwise u end up with tons of:

Sounds exactly like space exploration.

I’m not a fan of using actual Hollywood actors and their likeness in games. Like, in theory it should be the same as when they’re in movies and playing different characters and what not, but it just feels really weird to me when it’s done in games

Awesome visuals, and great to see ND doing something different...

But atrocious, bland lead character design (woke version of the old macho space marine circa mid-aughts) and a little too Guardians of the Galaxy-ish, but I'll try to stay optimistic.

I mean if you're a conformist and follower I guess do what other people do so you can fit in if that's your thing. If you're approaching middle age with that mentality though, just realize you should have grown out of that a few decades ago. Just do you, fuck what everyone else thinks whether you're a man or a woman.

The key factor for me is that it plays well. I also have no issue with a Vasquez (Aliens) like character as the lead but again, the gameplay has to be good.

It doesn't make sense to me but some people overthink gaming waaaay too much.

Aside from the woke protagonist, the Cowboy Bebop vibes are super refreshing. Space travel, bounty hunting, anime violence.

I’m actually pleasantly surprised with the direction of this game opposed to the continuity of TLOU.

Nothing in the trailer that was especially exciting. But it's a ND new IP in a Sci-Fi setting. This is a huge announcement with a very good chance to be an incredible game.

Taking nothing away except a so-so MC design, and turning this into more woke wars is just so damn lame.

If Naughty Dog is to be believed, all black/minority women are unattractive. Some how, they keep giving us all these unattractive minority characters as if they're trying to also say something about the attractiveness of minorities in general and they're not the only devs that do this either. Completely off-putting and very suspect.
What are you talking about? Tati Gabrielle game model looks close to her real life appearance,if you or anybody else don't find her attractive then that's your personal opinion, but Tati looks relatively attractive to me.

it's still a character design. The character in game does not actually exist. This is just a fact. But it's not like these companies don't take liberties when the actress is attractive, as Ubishit did with Star Wars.

Pete flat out said ALL women who are bald/shaved are super unattractive for “normal heterosexual men”, in post #1,581, in response to being asked about the actress herself. So yes, Pete’s argument apparently extends to real women.

And in fucking poor taste considering my cousin has been battling breast cancer for a while now and has had to shave her head this year, so you know, hearing a guy casually declare all bald/shaved women as objectively unattractive (since he claims this is true for all “normal heterosexual men”) is legit disgusting behavior in my eyes. Dude could have just said he prefers long hair, but nah, he had to go the insulting route.

But I like to believe my cousin’s husband is a decent enough guy to still find her attractive in spite of that, so at least she’s with someone who, “apparently”, isn’t a “normal heterosexual man” based on Pete’s argument.

Season 6 Facepalm GIF by The Office

Seriously, Pete, WTF?!

Come on. The dude has the right to express what type of female he finds attractive just as much as Drunkmann does.

And he can get criticized for it the exact same way Drunkmann’s tastes are in this very thread.

Will Smith Yes GIF by Bad Boys

Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta was the first one I noticed back in the day, but this is a solid pick too.

For real, if anything the hottest women can manage just fine without long hair. Like, unless someone finds nothing about a woman attractive EXCEPT her hair, the idea that a bald/shaved woman could never be attractive is just laughable to me.

Like, that’s like being given your favorite ice cream with all your favorite toppings, but turning it down because it came in a bowl and not a waffle cone. Like, the ice cream should be what you’re here for, getting hung up on the waffle cone is a rookie move.

Don't give a shit about the protagonist but this is giving off strong Rebel Moon vibes.

No idea what kind of game this is going to be, but I'm not gonna dismiss it just because it has a female protagonist with a shaved head. Will probably be a very good game!

People already saying this is another Concord, chill, lol.

That's what makes eveything more sad, it's like representantion of women has to be made only in a way where they're all stoic butch lesbians who have the same d-bag awful personality their creators label as "edgy/strong"
Yup, their idea of a “Strong Female Character” is one who is stripped of any femininity and behaves like the most “toxic” male character you could imagine.
