Naughty Dog Announces Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

BLOG POST

We're back! You have been dying to know what's next for us, and I'm thrilled to finally be able to answer: Naughty Dog's next game is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, currently in development for the PlayStation 5 console. We've been working on this brand-new adventure since 2020! This game is shaping up to be our wildest, most creative story yet. If you haven't already, check out the announcement trailer.

Intergalactic stars our newest protagonist, Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. In fact, anyone who's flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.

Beyond that, we're keeping everything about the story under wraps – at least for now. What we can tell you is that this game lives up to the Naughty Dog tradition of creating an emotional, character-driven epic journey. Our narrative goals are rivaled only by our gameplay ambitions. This will be the deepest gameplay in Naughty Dog's history, taking our learnings from our previous franchises and pushing them beyond anything we've ever done before.

Jordan is played by the talented Tati Gabrielle, who leads a stellar cast (pun intended!). Eagle-eyed players might spot some of the other cast members in the trailer. We'll reveal more of our ensemble down the line.

Our incredible voyage into the cosmos also needs an equally incredible soundtrack. As tremendous fans of their work, I'm excited to announce our collaboration with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross who'll be scoring Intergalactic! The guys are cooking, and the trailer is just a small tease of their work for the game.

We know you're eager for more – and trust us, we're very eager to share more with you. For now, though, it's time to put our heads back down and keep cranking away on Jordan's adventure.

On behalf of the entire team at Naughty Dog, thank you to all our fans! Your support allows us to work on our dream games, bringing these wonderful new worlds and characters to life. We can't wait to show you more!

See you on the other side,

Neil Druckmann

They're almost like some of the people here.. just on the other side of the coin.
Fair point. Honestly I'll give the game it's fair shake but you can't honestly tell me you're surprised at the reaction of the main character? That's a controversial design for a certain faction of gamers.

Felt nothing. Graphics looked good, but writing is already rockyeyeroll.gif.
We need a proper gameplay trailer, not a reveal with cinematics. So, opinion not fully mature due to the lack of information. Probably a few years off.

I hope they port Hellblade 2 to PS5 so you guys can see. Compare her mouth during dialogue. This is a fixed trailer too. HB you can pause at any time for photo mode. Meta Human Unreal 5 is definitely superior to this for faces.

It will look sick though and probably be a return to their more over the top action roots. The fact that the trailer mentions Jak and Daxter tells me all bets are off and they're trying to prepare TLoU fans for more eventful gameplay. I'm looking forward to seeing more. They need to demonstrate why any of this narrative matters though and is not another GotG rip off. This wasnt a great trailer but I bet the next one is better.

Yeah, if it was a white male everybody would be pumping it up. Plus, people calling her ugly are out of their mind. They must think any chick with a shaved head is ugly. The actress is very attractive IRL, as she is in the video game
Nah, that one-eyed 60 year old with a 20 year old's voice and shitty Marvel writing would have still been awful. This is just shit.

Think Stellar blade but in woke version where the woman looks like a masculine butch. Looks great but I stick to my values and principle, so right now, I smell it is woke so Im not interested for now. I really miss those good old days of Sony studio were its dominated by Sony Japan. Now its all woke west.
Sony Japan never managed the Western studios, lol, it was all SCEA and SCEE.

No one gives a shit what the mc gender is
If the story and gameplay is solid , that's all that matters

For someone to make complains like 'Gaf Only Hate Because the main character is a woman', you know, must be a woman to be a valid complain.

So, I do think people care.

Man, what a fucking letdown, it did absolutely nothing for me, the whole 80s shtick has been done to death the past few years (10+ I'd say), it felt like watching a vignette for a Guardians of the Galaxy game or some shit, the in-your-face logos/advertisment, Pet shop boys' "it's a sin", the sword with the whole equalizer thing are so, soooo banal by today's standards that it came off as incredibly try hard.

It looked and felt like something I've seen and played 100 times already, then again, this is ND we're talking about so it might actually be good in the end.

I'm just gonna paraphrase something that another user wrote in the other thread : "It really shows that this started its development 4-5 years ago" - an obvious reference to the whole and total failure of... "politically correctness" in games, and the way things are going, it might actually bite them in the ass.

Guess we'll have to wait and see...

Especially with new political climate and culture coming up in USA, this game will be killed and flop if they dont change the character design and if they plan to include some twisted woke agenda stuff. Right now im not interested. Sony was saved by Asia developers. West is killing Sony studio with force agenda.

Bro this game won't be out until AOC's third term as Emperor.

It was a predictable reaction.

Wish I could be actually excited, but Druckmann makes it so hard. It feels so insanely thematically outdated already, like it should have released in 2021 or something.

But I have no doubt gameplay is going to be out of this world. And as for the characters, I think I got the eye-patched lady:
I don't see the problem? A gaming studio hyping up their product isn't unusual and the highlighted part doesn't sound too arrogant.

All those ad placements fucking suck
Nah — they were cool. Ad placements are great when they make sense. Reebok in Alien, Atari and Panam in Balde Runner.

Sony picked Adidas and Porsche — some pretty iconic brands synonymous with the 80s vibe they are looking to build this world around. It’s not like they threw in Dollar Shave Club, or Comcast, or whatever highest bidder is out there. I dig it.

if i may offer some non-culture-war ctiticism : this trailer failed to tell us anything about the actual gameplay.

Is it a standard single-player narrative ghost train ride ? is it a co-op open world live service ? first or third person or both ? is it like returnal with a combat focus or like TLOU with a stealth focus ?

this is why i hate cinematic trailers for games. This is not a movie, it's a game. Show me some fucking gameplay. Even the story themes are not clearly coming out from this trailer.

Underwhelming.

I actually would prefer if she actually looked like a female. If realism is your argument, then her muscular arms are completely unrealistic, unless you're into roided up trans-men.

Me I don't care, she's just look unappealing and stereotypical woke-trash.
She does...theyre not all waifu
