I own Mario Kart 8, and I still wonder how people enjoy this franchise. Sure, having a few races with a kid is fun, but being obsessed with the series? The fact that all the games in the series are basically the same makes it even more dramatic.

will this release on the switch 1 then? If it doesnt switch will be one of the biggest nintendo console without a mario kart.

Doesnt look like anything special- but its also sort of hard here given what is shown and over YouTube.

Obsessed? It’s a fun game series and I’d argue the best in its entire genre. Same as with CoD, GTA or anything else that pulls insane numbers.

Looks like Cracky Kong.
The first ever 18+ rated Mario Kart incoming.

Maybe 'obsessed' wasn’t the right word; I could have used something else for people who are still excited about this game, like "being so into the series"?

CoD and GTA have shown different developments over the years(those are not my favourites btw), but this series has been almost exactly the same for 30 years. I’ve also played the GameCube and Wii versions, and even a knockoff South Park version back in the day. I enjoyed it as a kid, especially with a friend, but it’s interesting to see adults still getting excited for Mario Kart 9. I still occasionally regret the $60 I spent on it—just like I did with Smash Bros Ultimate.

What is the practical difference between being simultaneously developed or not? GTA V is not cross gen? Jedi Survivor is not cross gen?
I take cross-gen to mean that it's designed to take advantage of both consoles at the time of development, though obviously compromised to fit within the power envelope of the less powerful console.

For example, if an early PS4 game later gets ported to PS5 in the middle of its lifecycle, that no longer constitutes cross-gen for me. Hence, GTA V on PS4 is cross-gen, but GTA V on PS5 is a port.

The power of Switch being essentially on par with WiiU does complicate things, however. Can it even be considered cross-gen if it essentially belongs to the same gen?

I was hoping for them to not do make the style flat for next Mario Kart after the new DLC tracks... I guess it is what it is, I hope it's just an intentional first bad look like those Nintendo provide for their stuff which will then show real stuff and hype everyone

Lol people really out here analyzing the "upgrade" based on 10 seconds of footage on a TV inside a Youtube video.

I really am not expecting much of a graphical upgrade, MK8 is already pretty fantastic artistically, the style doesn't need much in that regard. I would imagine the upgrade comes in the form of the size of the tracks, amount of stuff on screen, number of racers, etc.

Why not? If PS5 had nearly the same power of PS4, Horizon Forbidding West would not be cross-gen?
For all intents and purposes, it would not, because the PS5 version would not be compromised by PS4 power. You are looking at this from the obtuse product cycle angle, whereas I’m looking at it from the viewpoint of the spirit of a gen. The only company insane enough to break that spirit is Nintendo.
