It’s strange they haven’t shown the UI yet, I wonder what they have up their sleeves that they don’t want MS to know.
Well, way back in June it was said that Sony still has many things to reveal about PS5.....The way this industry is going, you announce something too early, then the competition has time to react and say we have it too at launch. So it's always a great idea to bask in the fruits of your own vision for a while and own it...People have to know that you came up with the idea and it was not out of reaction to anything....Just following your vision...
I think some hardware details and some nifty OS features are being kept secret......It makes sense, you need all the advantage you can get....I really appreciate Sony and AMD's approach this gen, leaks are few and far between, Sony and AMD are keeping things very close to their chest. Look at how much we knew about Navi and Ryzen before they launched, now for RDNA2, things are a bit hazy, the competition can't really anticipate what they have packing.....Look at the RDNA 2 situation, NV has cards ready because they know AMD will come with more Vram than what they are offering on the 3080, but they really don't know AMD's rasterization performance, they don't know RDNA2's raytracing performance.....Like anything else, the media, the loudest mouths will under-estimate AMD 's performance because AMD always disappoints right? and boom, AMD comes in and catches them unawares....
Look at the PS5, it was the console all the media and tech guys were lowballing, 8TF and all that jazz, all because of MS's heavy coffers. Phil will never relinquish power to Sony again, so whilst Phil was only thinking more CU's, Cerny was thinking of making the fastest console ever and revolutionizing all aspects of the pipeline, he was thinking of a way to play with better controller feedback and the highest immersion through a novel sound chip. They were thinking about putting the most customizations in to minimize bottlenecks and to maximize performance. So when the media went on about 8TF and RDNA 1 and no hardware RT, no VRS, Cerny was working, he probably never saw all of that, he was just doing what he does best. Build a state of the art console with the most customizations he could think of from that genius mind of his and also incorporate the latest and up to date tech he could put into the device for futureproofing......
Whilst others were worried about TF, Cerny was worried about how much more performance could 1TF give you, if you improved the pipeline and placed in more customized hardware......That's what we are dealing with, so whilst some people only see the consoles as what's being debated on twitter or forums or who is spreading FUD and fake hype, Cerny has been busy doing work and constructing his magnum opus.....There is literally no aspect of the PS5 that is not revolutionary and a massive step up or in redesign over PS4......
Literally everything he has said has been true....
Quickest to triangle
Gamechanging SSD
Revolutionary Sound
Haptic Feedback Controller
Revolutionary cooling and power distribution system
So when the media and certain demographics were saying, no hardware RT, no 4K, 1800p at best, 30fps UE4 demo, 5700 or 2060S performance for PS5 at best....Cerny never saw that.....He was too busy doing the fine touches. He was more interested in architecting the final touches on the hardware than to boast about anything PS5 on twitter or in interviews. As a developer himself, he was talking to devs, asking what do you guys need, how can we make this better, he was finetuning his own customized hardware....He was helping devs realize raytracing in games. So what do we have now? Talk vs Delivery.....Cerny never boasted about the best visuals, but his console has it, he never boasted about Raytracing, but his console is the only one showing it, he never boasted 4k, but he has 4k native with RT on many games.
So at this point, I think it makes little sense for talk anymore, just show.......Closer to launch, it makes sense to leave some surprises, people are already locked in for the top tier visuals they've seen on PS5. In essence, everything people lowballed PS5 on they have over-delivered; Power, visuals, 4k, raytracing, framerate, noise. cooling.....Next gen looking games, they have that in the bag....The last straw is BC and some are coming hard about BC, which has no impact on next gen, but Sony is going to deliver on that too, rest assured....
