will this fit in my home?
Please make another one that shows Cerny popping out of a USB port as if it were his front door. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

People take this very funny, but the reality is that many XSX will collapse in the heat due to poor placement. Be very careful when placing it horizontally (and where). Vertical is its "natural" position.
Dude what are you talking about. You are spreading FUD

I think it is more laughable that people have whole living _rooms_ and claim they dont know where to put it ;)

Most people try to maintain some sort of coherency in how their living room looks. It's not that I can't find room for it, but there's no obvious place that is both out of reach of children, close enough to the tv and acceptable for the GF. It is what it is. Had I been a bachelor, I'd just put where ever.

Fuck me lol. Can we please not console war over fucking teardowns?

You're not even making a point with your trolling.
Seems that a teardown gif and a simple Xbox tweet has ruffled some feathers in this thread. I don't see what the problem with a side by side teardown comparison is? Maybe you are a little too sensitive?

Honestly, seeing them side by side I am still somehow more amazed how compact the XSX is.
I know it is held by magnets there for presentation purposes, but still.

Still awesome to finally see what's under the hood of both them.
And finally liquid metal cooling!!
Hopefully no more issues with drying IHS.

Btw: That PS5 heatsink must be a real B**ch to produce or is something like that easily doable?

I don't know what is more concerning at this stage.

1. That we have only seen a few titles running on the series X like Dirt or Yakuza but nothing else (although we are supposed to see them all later this month, its still strange)
2. That we have seen some games, but not a single PS5 console or review unit sent to anyone, a teardown, or received detailed information about the console (not sure when this is happening, but the showing in japan in controlled settings seems strange this close to launch)
The timing! The PS5 teardown is available now!

I'd assume ~ 7 GB/s for raw read required. Maybe 6.5+. Doubt any certain write speed is needed, not really a factor in game performance.

The stupidity of people being triggered by a joke (not a great one but I like stupid company tweets on all sides) and whether the xbox series x is ugly distracted me. The only reason that I can think for writes speeds having a requirement is just transferring files and if they have a quick resume feature. The priority will be the read speed.

Even if you never get a PS5, it sounds like you need a new gf. That's got red flags all over it.

What's the problem if someone else's wife or girlfriend look at that huge white thing in the living room, completely disharmonious from everything else, and not be glad with it? Even I would feel a little bad about it, and I would be the one to play in it.

Taste is completely subjective so I don't think we have to make a huge deal out of it, but it is huge and very "showy", so I'm sure lots of people would prefer if it was a bit more discreet.

IntentionalPun

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
It's a standard but that's more about the ones with their own heatsinks (some are massive)
Ah interesting, thanks.

Wasn't sure what Cerny meant by that.

Still super curious how an off the shelf is really gonna work... I thought a bunch of the PS5's SSD perf was via it's 12 channel design... how is a bit of extra raw speed really gonna make up for the fact regular SSDs are 4 channels?

I doubt any M.2 drive that can hit the necessary read speed will fail to meet whatever write speed is also required. I'm sure Sony will let us know in a month or two.

I guess you'll just have to (gulp!) be a MAN and say 'It goes HERE because it HAS to!' and lay down the law, right? :messenger_winking_tongue:

All kidding aside...if putting some box by the TV is a point of contention, some folk might want to re-evaluate their thought patterns. That doesn't bode well for future harmony.

How many watts does each console use ? Watts are listed on specs, we can deduce watts used as a % of power supply)

Electrical power is dissapated as heat

The temperature of the console / air coming out depends on volume of air flow and size of box, and heat transfer efficiency.

We dont know Ps5 specs yet, one or 2 fans, but it certainly is a bigger box wind tunnel so you cannot compare yet.

Dont know what frequency has to do with this, thats getting into process vs power curve and will also depend on depend on process steps chosen at TSMC fab for each device. AMD leaked PC parts going to 2.5 Ghz, and some at 1.9 Ghz is worth noting, we can speculate why but thats a different topic.

PS5 has a 350 watt power supply. I THOUGHT that the XSX was 350 as well???

Issue is that the PS5 is not just a small black box. It would be an eyesore in our living room, so it definitely needs to be considered.

our harmony is perfectly fine, thank you 👍

The more I look at it the more I wonder if they will suck the air through the heatsink and blow out the top of the console. That's how most of my pc air flow has been since they changed power supply location. In through the front and bottom and out through the top/back.

XSX has to be the ugliest console ever especially horizontally.
Damn, Microsoft makes a silly joke and people here get triggered.

Stop including everyone I don't think people got trigger, it's sad to see MS reaction like a child mocking PS5 while Sony does their job , posting things like this won't making successful , but focus making games will, not posting crap on twitter. for example like the meditation video :messenger_tears_of_joy: it's a video game company do all that isn't good sign or management.

Sony said the back of the PS5 where the ports are is the exhaust. Seems the vents along the top/front are intakes.

It's definitely just personal taste. I would rather my console be boring and blend in, screaming here is my console isn't something I'm looking to do. LOL

You can put the biggest heatsink on a CPU you want and diffuse the exhaust air with 20 fans, the net heat dissipation will still be the same. You may maintain a lower running temperature on the chip, but that's just because you are moving heat more quickly. Heat dissipation is just a necessary evil for all electronic devices.
But the big difference of dissipating heat quickly(over a larger volume) and keeping the lower running temp down is that conductors become more resistive as their temps rise - which is a recursive problem for cooling... more resistance draws more power, more power creates more heat biproduct, and so on.

Yes, unless you can create a PSU that operates with heat like a KERS F1 braking system, you are still going to have to exhaust the heat, but how you do it majorly impacts running power draw AFAIK.

Agreed. The PS5 looks to be fantastically engineered, but from an aesthetically point of view, it's definitely not to my taste. If we could cram the PS5 into the XSX box, that would be perfect.

Oh please, both companies have flug shit at each other and will continue to in future. Sony is hardly blameless here.

Your statement about how social media jokes is not a good sign for management is frankly laughable. What, you think they sit around and wait for PS5 news and hold a emergency board meeting to respond? No, it was likely some social media manager that saw an opportunity and ran with it.

Just laugh at it, don't take it personally, and move on.

I'm saying it myself.

Likewise, if that is not enough for you, you will have time to check it out for yourself shortly.
No, and it shouldn't be enough to anybody. You being a developer doesn't mean you have access to both consoles nor that you are fair doing comparisons.

Having said that. How come Ms supposedly NDA-ed people to not talk about heat problems but you are able to?
