I never watched a teardown video before. The way some people went on about this for the past few months, you'd think it was more than just taking apart a box. In the end, that's all it is. Nothing of consequence was learned today. It's neat to see how they packaged everything, but is this something anyone should base their next-gen buying decisions on? You've seen the hyperbole. In retrospect, it's utter insanity the way some people have conducted themselves regarding this teardown.what the hell dude, its a wonderful piece of kit, what's the problem.
What were your expecting a teleportation device from mars?
I don't think so. It's not like they are using this in their marketing campaigns. And 'liquid metal cooling' will sell an extra few million consoles. Mark my fucking words.
Wrong.Nothing of consequence was learned today.

The PS5 heatsink is fucking huge.
Cool to have removable plates, interesting that the M.2 bay is literally internal and hidden under the plate.
So fucking cool to see the teardown finally!
Agreed, I've always loved Sony's teardowns, pure hardware nerd. Just here it is. No stupid fluff.Posted this in the other thread, but thought it might warrant inclusion here as well:
Speaking from a marketing and communications perspective, this presentation of this teardown is absolutely perfect.
A calm Japanese man in a smart shirt (all screams 'expert!'), sitting in a clean room, slowly and confidently showing us every important aspect of the Playstation's construction.
No screaming YouTubers. No idiotic, paid off influencers. No need to overplay or exaggerate. Just a straight forward presentation that shows everyone just how well designed the inside of the console is.
And 'liquid metal cooling' will sell an extra few million consoles. Mark my fucking words.
not sure these things are related... both serve a different purposePosted this in the other thread, but thought it might warrant inclusion here as well:

Never really looked at a PS4 one but that did look a monster!
Let the pigeons on TF Valhalla sing "Coo CaCoooooo Cooo Coo". Where's that smack my face emotion? Lol
The hero we need, but not the one we deserve.
It's a standard but that's more about the ones with their own heatsinks (some are massive)Didn't show much of the SSD expansion slot; looks like it's a pretty decent size though?
Cerny mentioned some SSDs might not fit but it looks fairly standard.
Yup. Just make custom black plates instead of a whole SKU for it for example. $$$
The PS4 was ridiculously dinky in all models.
Side note, don't fret my Xbox brothers, what matters is that the systems have what they need to operate in a reliable fashion long-term. I think they both have that. (Team blue completely whipped our asses in the cooling engineering department this time though).
Pretty much. I'll own up to that. Anyway, I'm over it. It was just a bit of system shock at discovering what all the hullabaloo was about. Live and learn.I don't know, maybe you have got your expectations wrong or something, look around you, most of the people here seem to be extremely happy, i think your the only one i see that is mad.
you probably should of watched other videos.
The size on that heat sink...
No wonder it's running cool
See, I don't even think that's the case. I just think Msft have gone with a pretty standard method of cooling, whereas Sony have gone balls out with it. Ass whipping only really matters if one seriously outperforms the other, but I doubt that'll be the case overall. It's just that Sony are pushing more boundaries - which kinda makes sense given that they're far more concerned with console generations than Msft now.
To be fair it's more about the incorrect way power gets allocated in some games and a few cases on sub optimal application of thermal paste. But yeah, I'm happy with this design and I'll take a bulkier form factor if neededPS4: overheats and has a loud fan
PS5: 50% of it is a cooling system
Have you noticed the ease with which the casings are removed to be able to extract the accumulated dust in the respective compartments without causing the loss of the guarantee?
Thus opening the doors to custom cases...?
YES SIR!! Cant wait for black cases. Swapping the originals out immediately.
This is the dumb shit people were moaning about....what a bunch of knobs. It's a computer....whoopty fucking do. I thought these teardowns were supposed to reveal something interesting, but it's just taking apart a computer. You can do that in your house. The packaging is different, but the components are the same. I took apart an 8086 when I was 10 years old, and a Sinclair when I was 6. This was not worth the noise that some people were making. I almost want to go back through this thread to find all the wankers that were complaining about not getting this video, just so I can put them on ignore. You are horrible and miserable people. This is a big, fat nothingburger.
I'm only getting a PS5. Never owned an Xbox. Owned every PS ever made, save for the Vita. This was not worth people crying and spreading FUD. This is what I see once or twice a year, when I take my laptop apart to swap drives or clean the vents. This teaches us nothing useful. Meanwhile, Sony has shown a number of next-gen games, which is about the only thing we can actually engage with, and manipulate. I'm literally dumbfounded by how high a priority some posters in this thread made this video. This ranks somewhere down near backwards compatibility on my list of important next-gen information. I learned how computers were put together when I was a child. This shouldn't be revelatory for anyone old enough to post on the internet.
We’ve implemented a new Trophies level calculation system that is more optimized and rewarding. Players will progress quicker through the early levels, and levels will increase more consistently. Platinum trophies will count more toward your level progression, making them even more valuable.
There are 4 screw holes inside the bay to install 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280 M.2 form factor SSDs. So we can pick from 4 different sizes, and there appears to be some room inside the bay incase the drive is a bit larger. Bay is under the white plate. No idea when we will find out what drives are supported, but going off this look, seems obvious that drives like the Samsung 980 Pro will be supported. They will easily fit inside.Haven't watch the video yet.
Anything interesting? Liquid metal interface between the apu and cooler was kinda already known. It definitely ain't going to sell millions.
Any information on when we will get the spec for compatible ssd's?
Nope, never fear there's more to comeWell, the tear down is out. I guess it’s the end of the thread. Had a lot of fun guys

I don't know what is more concerning at this stage. He won’t be concerned even a day before release lol
I don't know what is more concerning at this stage.
1. That we have only seen a few titles running on the series X like Dirt or Yakuza but nothing else (although we are supposed to see them all later this month, its still strange)
2. That we have seen some games, but not a single PS5 console or review unit sent to anyone, a teardown, or received detailed information about the console (not sure when this is happening, but the showing in japan in controlled settings seems strange this close to launch)
Or spray it yourself.

Screenshots I made, hope they help!
