Type c Isn't needed for a 3.1 gen1 USB port, really debatable for 3.1 gen2. The type a to c cable ain't going to disappear soon.

Why would Sony put it in then, this is what i don't understand, they are both next-gen consoles but they seems to be going in different directions in terms of latest tech.

I mean the wifi on xbox is also not the latest version/standard. Maybe it does not matter, its just once again one has it and the other does not.

I am beginning to think they might be cost-saving reasons, but these little things cant cost to much surely.

2 - the white plates on the outside will likely remain cool to the touch since they are somewhat separate from the inner chassis that will contain the heat while running. So the cool to the touch outer shell, and the quiet fan, plus a huge heatsink and liquid metal, should give users the impression of a very cool and quiet console.

Ok then it makes sense why some are saying the XSX feels hot to the touch. It's mainly because the case comes into direct contact with the parts. With the PS5 there's a separation between the two so the outside shouldn't heat up as much.

Oh god, yeah. Amazon are the big unknown in all of this at the moment. I don't know if they've secured any day and date releases from anyone though. I'd be surprised if they have, but then Amazon can pay just about anything, so it's perfectly possible.

Amazon is interesting because of their huge reach (Prime userbase).
On their FireTV sticks they also have "prime channels" which are other streaming video services which can hook up into prime and you can subscribe to them for an additional fee.
As the UbiSoft channel shows they try to have the same system for the game streaming service. And while it makes not much sense for the video services, it might for the game streaming.

I would not be surprised if they offer a stripped down version of their game service free for all prime users, plus additional channels for a fee. If they do it right, they can get a large user base quickly and are attractive for 3rd parties to offer their channels, for example an EA Play Channel, an Square Enix channel or whatever. Maybe even a playstation channel in a few years?

Another concept: Here in Germany if you are a prime user and you buy a music CD you can also stream the songs for the CD via Amazon Prime. Just think if this would be possible for games.

One thing which differentiate Amazon from Google is, that Amazon knows how to sell stuff to the end user. And they have possibilities Google has not because of the existing user base and existing infrastructure.
While I personally do think that Game streaming is for me, I am interested to see Amazons how strategies will look like and how successful they will be.

I don't think anyone would be able to know unless you know components costs, total bom and loss per product sold.

I think both consoles are exceptionally designed. It's clear that a lot of thought went into keeping these consoles cool and high spec and we should all be applauding Sony and MS for doing this after cheapening out last gen.

It seems that bloomberg article about the PS5 was right after all. That heatsink is like 3x the size of the PS4 Pro heatsink, but its still much cheaper than vapor chamber cooling. It's obvious now how they were able to hit that $399 pricepoint despite only a 20% smaller APU and a lack of a $20 UHD. their cooling solution is really impressive. I dont mind large consoles. Functionality over form for me, and this looks more astehtically pleasing than the PS4, 360, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X and PS4 Pro. No more matte bullshit. give me something sleek and sexy.

I still have my reservations about liquid thermal. I opened up my PS4 Pro and while the results with Liquid metal paste were quite amazing (10 degree Fahrenheit difference over regular thermal paste), a lot of people said that you might have to reapply it if you get it wrong. I hope they have robots doing this instead of people. Then again, thermal paste was applied awfully in each of the past four consoles so maybe time to give liquid metal a try.

Overall, I am very pleased by this teardown. This thing should be able to cool a 2.23 ghz GPU. Love love the padding on the UHD. My X1x UHD makes way too much noise. Love the fact that there is support for multiple ssd slots. I wouldnt be surprised if the PS5 SSDs will be a $100 cheaper despite being 2.5x faster.

I love pretty much everything about the console.

Amazon’s full entry into video games is going to be massively disruptive, and all we‘re going to be talking about in months to come. All this Microsoft vs Sony stuff is going to seem like a children’s tea party by comparison. This isn’t Google half arsing it. This is the most successful company currently on the planet, used by nearly all of us, who know more about selling product than anyone else.

Nope you can't remove the stand on Xbox x this is going to be a problem

OMG just realized XBOX SX can't remove stand damn! it will be a problem mark my word.

i was very surprised by that, the stands looks perfect to have a small threaded bolt or screw on it and just let it screw into the base, its an extremely simple thing to do.

And is it me but that xbox looks extremely long lol,

The small issues have been that their first party games have sucked balls and weirdly decided to create their own game engine.

The move to just licence windows for Luna is a really smart one (ahem Google just do the smart move)

I think that they will definitely be more successful than stadia.

Microsoft was making a $299 box as well, so every penny is precious. From there the goal would have been to have as much symmetry between the units as possible (Southbridge, Wireless, etc.). The AC wifi is good enough to handle most users internet connections at full tilt, I doubt most will use XSX as a file server or something. Or at least that's how I would rationalize it, LOL. With that said the Wifi6 could be amazing for wireless VR.

USB C display port alt mode. For VR. That is why they have a 350W power supply as well even though the SoC won't draw most of that. A single USB C cable will carry video, data and power to the VR headset.

Wouldn't it be better to have raised feet in the corners to allow the vents to be bigger? If you design the feet correctly it shouldn't affect the stability of the system.

While I don't believe the XSX won't have any overheating issues that stand design seems a bit odd to me.

I expect that in 1-2 years someone will make an adapter for the XSX/XSS slot.
Probably will cost around 30-50€ and then you will be able to use any other NVME SSDs, too.

At the moment I don't see any special requirements except for the new connection type, why we shouldnt get something like this.
Yes, it will still cost you more than for the PS5, but the XSX will be ok with slower kind NVMe drives than the PS5 needs.

I hope someone opens the SSD expansion asap, to check if it is just an custom adapter or not.

What I still don't like (this applies to both: PS5 and XS) that the internal storages are fixed and the SSDs are drives, which will die one day, sooner or later. Things like quick resume etc. will put extra stress onto them and reduce their life's even more.

(as you can see I still don't trust SSDs longelivety that much..)

Of course the liquid metal is applied by machine lmao.

humm very good point, maybe.

I'll have you know that I'm estimated to be three years old and I'm only smelly near the end of the month. My human gives me a bath once a month thank you very much. I find it annoying, but it's a price I'm willing to pay for a constant supply of food, walks, and couch sleeps. He recently sprayed me down with a deodorizer, so I fear shower time within the next few days.

Yes, their 1st party stuff still sucks and it is not easy and will take years to get to an acceptable level. You can see how even Microsoft struggled for a very long time and mainly solved it by spending tons of money.

Too much ventilation would actually hurt this design (allow air to stand). They are going for a steady air exchange, the same amount of air goes in as comes out with constant negative pressure. If you put vents everywhere some air would stagnate in the case and you wouldn't get the suction of air (think a straw with holes in it).

I would totally tear off the round stand and put it on erasers like the PS4 pro.

The card format for Xbox is far better for me, there will be at least three Series consoles in my house, being able to have what I'm playing on an easily detachable card and just take it from machine to machine will be a massive advantage.

hmmm that makes a lot of sense. I think most of my Xbox friends have multiple boxes so I wouldn’t be surprised if that is one of the selling points for them to stay Xbox. Just curious of pricing in a year or two for them.
