It's difficult to wonder why MS made the decision they did choosing this over a XSX Digital SKU.

If they did, it would almost certainly be sold out in the UK right now. It would be difficult to compete against. I'm sure you'll agree.

It has just left a gap in the market, leaving just the PS5DE as the entry point for consoles which can run next gen versions of games without caveats. Fully future-proofed, runs 120hz better. And 4k gaming. And a lot more harddrive space to boot.

It's a shame Sony don't/can't make more of them ATM.

The quote is there, screenshot for your convenience. The framerate is no worse than the other versions, just VRR support for Xbox helps a lot.
The resolution is lowest at 648p minimum at the start of a race when you're in the pack, once that clears you are going to get up to a nice 1080p image, if it really bothered anyone there are two other modes including a nice image quality mode.
Your concern is just trolling as even the figures you quoted were wrong.
Let's see what SFS and Mesh Shaders bring to the table.

MS wanted to make a Gamepass machine that is as cheap as possible. That's the entire point of the XSS. I personally think it's a bit too expensive, but once it reaches $250 and lower, it's gonna be a no-brainer for many people. The PS5DE is great value for money, but the games are fucking expensive (up to 100 dollars in some countries).

People here love posting that tweet over and over again. Just a reminder that id software wanted 64 GB of RAM in the new consoles. Their engine eats up all the available RAM, no matter how much it actually needs. Yet, Doom Eternal runs perfectly fine on a graphics card with 4 GB of VRAM.

It's just hyperbole from a dev who doesn't like any memory constraints at all. Series S is a beast :messenger_beaming:

The fanatics on here sometimes, good grief, even actual experts aren't truthworthy sources for some! Back to blaming the developers :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It was quoted by the Dev, when talking about the introduction of VRS, SFS was later.
Also like I said your figures are wrong, it's 648p to 1080p and the 120hz mode ran as well as PS5, difference being Series S supports VRR so would be smoother.

  • Cross-gen: Games optimized/designed to run in different generations of consoles.
  • Gen-aware: Games that are released for last gen consoles and run on current-gen hardware with certain options unlocked (not always). Usually they will run at PS4 Pro / XOX settings with an hybrid setting sometimes unlocked (instead of choosing res or fps, you can pick both).
I'm really hoping DarkMage619 DarkMage619 , Riky Riky , amongst others, understand the difference. There's a clear winner in the Back Compat game, which is the Xbox with it's easier to port SDK's and their last gen preparation for backwards compatible titles, and then there's no clear winner in Cross-gen games they both trade blows pretty much everywhere.

  • Some games have an edge in either res or fps in either console
This is very likely engine related, and the trend will continue across the whole gen.

Quick Edit - On the subject of "features" becoming available on the Xbox SDK's, I find it funny that people ignore that ALL Sdk's have iterations and new features added all the time. It's not just the XDK that will evolve, PS5's SDK will also evolve over time and allow for more features and more fine tuned / granular access.

I think the major difference is that Gen-aware is compiled in XDK and Cross-gen in GDK, which expose the full potential of the HW (granted you have to use APIs for that).

For example ME: Legendary Edit is just gen-aware, but for some reason it still have the X|S badge, which is misleading. Probably some EA fuckery.

I'm just trying to figure out what happened recently to bring the 120 fps thing back. I'm positive this was compared weeks, months ago. Probably bought up before the FPS Boost from MS.

What certain folks (team gre...) are feeling some type of way about, I have no idea...but I promise its gonna be alright.

About the SDK's....exactly. We see this first hand with the Rift Apart UE5 flying comparison. SDK's, engines will evolve for everyone.

It's not just EA, check the file type and you'll see it's "Durango" XDK, Ubisoft and Microsoft also badge these games as X and S enabled, they all run off an external HDD also.

Where did I do that?
The last few big third party games are not BC, Resident Evil 8, Outriders and Hitman 3.
They all run better on Series X.

in what deluded reality is the series s a beast? If the ps5 is just a nice console with serious issues than why are all the best showcases for next gen on ps5 & not the series consoles? Why is the medium, the only next gen game on the series consoles, running at 900p 30fps? Whilst rachets wrecks anything Xbox has ever even shown for the series consoles? Will Xbox even have anything that competes with rachet this e3? Cause rachet is just an early gen example of ps5 tech, it ain’t maxing out the ps5 & Sony will top rachet at their next presentation. What will be the narrative then?

RE8 has a 2-10% advantage in framerate during the ray traced mode.
Outriders runs at a higher resolution on Series X.

You can think of me as 12 if that what turns you on.

So to prove this he decided to paste a small image snippet, no actual link. But a quick Google reveals that the quotes were actually for a completely different game and even the wrong studio.

Not sure whether he was trying to be deliberately deceiving or not. Althought he has done similar stuff before.

The RE8 load times are insane on the PS5. I was watching some Mercenaries guides on youtube and for some reason they were playing on PS4, loading screens everywhere. This game is so instant I had no idea there was any kind of loading in this game. It's kinda mind blowing when you compare it to last gen.

Another weird thing happened where I accidently ejected the disc but the game put me back to the menu I was in when I put the disc back in. I am guessing the game remains suspended even if you eject discs since its technically running off of the ssd.

I have seen 570p from various sources (after hearing about it from a poster here). So why would I admit I'm wrong?

If I had seen 648p, I would be using that figure instead. It doesn't change anything at all.


Both figures are nowhere near good enough for 2021.

Why are you making out that it changes anything or are you saying lows of 648p are next gen?

We DO all realize, that when we're talking one system or another has an advantage in 'this game or that game' with both systems outperforming the other at times, or talking about sections of games like above with Hitman 3....that this just REINFORCES that these two systems are just pretty much dead even overall?

Kind of like most of us suspected from developer comments and such early on. Honestly, to me the biggest difference between the two SEEMS to be the loading time, etc., from the SSD's. That's the only thing that seems to be truly and consistently slanted one way or the other. Even there, there seem to be some inconsistencies early on in the generation. Very cool times to be a gamer!

Very true. We can all stand to benefit from the lesson. If you get to the point where you just have to throw something harsh out there and you've had enough.....just step away from the keyboard and come back another time or day. Not worth it and really not worth getting a penalty on a forum like this, just to get that last zinger out there!

Once again trying to make a point for Gamepass...which fails considering not every game releases on the service day one. And if we are talking about old ones, PS users can subscribe to PS Now.

What he said does not warrant capital punishment, but there are lines that are meant not to be crossed. If he feels triggered by this forum, he could choose not to engage or just ignore certain people. Implying that someone commits a hidenous crime isn't a smart move.

I know Mesh/Primitive Shader’s are excellent for pushing intense amounts of geometry whilst also having huge performance gains.

There’s hardly any games right now which are leveraging Mesh Shaders and likewise the same with Primtive Shaders, there’s a big learning curve for developers when implementing such methods. We’ll have to wait for Insomniac’s GDC talk

Thats whats so mind blowing about Rift Apart...its a launch window game. Even comparing it to the PS4 game, which already looked amazing and for it to look like a gen ahead is amazing.

I wouldn't be shocked if Insomniac are doing that with shaders, they didnt wait for UE5 to tap into data streaming so ...lol.
