Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

BOTW and TOTK offer very different experience imo, the fact that TOTK gives you more tools to traverse is what makes traversing way less of an experience compared to BOTW, and that was basically BOTW cream

Yeah TOTK very much feels like they expected you to have played BOTW already and were trying their best to make it seem like 2.0, like "we made you climb that thing last time, but this game is better, because we just give you a game breaking mechanic so you can skip it now!" If you didn't play BOTW first, you literally don't know what you're missing.

I'd pick one or the other though, definitely a big break needed in between. TOTK is the better game but like you say I think its best appreciated if you play BOTW first.

Spotted at my local Costco today
...should have climbed up on that shelf, cut the wrap, grabbed one and then did an unboxing video in the store.

Uh, curiously enough, you'll most probably skip climbing if you're on foot in BOTW thanks to Revali's skill, which I deeply missed in TOTK

Costco is weird - this is just a display with cardboard cutouts that you take to the checkout register, then you pay for the item, and they bring it out from behind a locked cage.

It was only released physically in Japan. The Japanese version is region free and contains English, though.

Is there any chance I could just go to Costco at 10am on June 5th and get one?
They're not doing pre-orders, and stores are obviously getting a supply - but who knows when the lines will start. Also keep in mind that I believe they're only doing bundles: Switch 2 + Mario Kart (download) + 12 month NSO+expansion membership card. Word on the street is this bundle will be $529.99

I got one more for jailbreaking (hopefully) than actual use, but I'll be honest. I'm getting pretty excited to get it. Now if the resell value goes off the charts I might part with it. Lol, but I don't plan to do that. I actually do want to keep it.

I couldn't care less what the launch line up is my self. I don't beat games in less than a week to take advantage of a huge launch line up, in fact I take a month+ to beat anything. Mario Kart World+Switch 1 upgrades alone will last me probably until Metroid Prime 4. Then there's Donkey Kong in there too which I probably will have to squeeze in.

Too many games to care especially with PC in the mix. I mean I got a Runescape 2 week bond going, I got Doom TDA, I got Expedition 33. Help.

No point in buying the console if you already have a lot to play. The major fomo gamers have is the reason these companies continue to take advantage of customers.

I usually buy consoles at launch but this go round I refuse too because it's just not worth it until more games are available. I'm fine with playing Metroid on my OLED switch for now.

The only upside I can see to getting a s2 at launch is that the price might go up due to what happens with the tariffs but we will see… to each his own.

Not to mention one doesnt just simply "beat" a game like mario kart.

Its goddamn mario kart. Its like playing Fortnite: You cant beat Fortnite, you play a round, win and/or lose, you repeat.

I mean it did start as a DLC and then was expanded upon tbf

Ugh I have a preorder, I have the money easily and I keep uming and arring about pulling the trigger next week, I know I will likely do so as I'll be getting one regardless but still

I wouldn't call the reason for buying it launch FOMO. It's about the excitement of a new console launch and a new Mario Kart. Happens only once every 8-10 years. It's fun to be a part of that and MKW is Switch 2 exclusive, so if you're planning on getting it at any point why bother waiting? It's not like Switch 2 will ever drop in price and MKW is only $50 when you buy it bundled with Switch 2. Sold my Switch for $200 so I'm only coming out of pocket $300 for Switch 2 and MKW.

Whelp. Just pre-ordered the Mario Kart World bundle (in HK). Here we go. To be honest, I didn't know it was launching next week

😆 yeah that shit just goes in a cupboard or under the bed who gives a shit....

I am very surprised and a little disappointed that MonolithSoft haven't announced patches or upgrades of any kind for the Xeno series, Especially X.

That's cool he's gonna be one super happy kid at Xmas!!! I love reading stuff like this 😃 I assume you'll be both getting one same time??? MK lad and dad Xmas day!!
I'm going to get one in early 2026.

Our 4 year old is getting his first console on Christmas Day, a Switch Lite, and I don't want him to think that he's different to his brother and I. (He's still a rough and tumble kid, so we'll get him a Switch 2 in a couple of years).

We have an existing Pro Controller and 8bitdo Ultimate so there will probably be some 4 player going down :messenger_horns:

The form factor alone is why I sold mine and bought a Switch OLED. A lot of these handhelds aren't actually that fun to use in your hands.

Fitting a good battery life (compared to the competition) and a powerful chip into that form factor is impressive.
I find the Deck to be way more comfortable to use than the OLED. Joycons are pure arthritis in handheld mode. Had to buy a controller cradle to use it without discomfort. The size difference isn't really much once you account for Hori split-pad pro or a controller cradle. A lot of the size of the Deck is in the comfortable and versatile controls, even vs Switch 2: analog triggers, touchpads, 4 back buttons, accessible d-pad. Switch 2 joycons are a bit larger, so hopefully that helps, but it still retains roughly the same poor d-pad layout as before.
---
For anybody wondering, the Deck is in a protective case in that picture.

Has anyone noticed that the Switch 2 Dock seems to be completely non-existent, not possible to order anywhere?

I have a couple of places where I play so love having docks for each.
The spare dock is listed on the website as being available from the 6th of June. I will be ordering one as soon as it's available.

Any chance these would be available without reservation on launch day at Best Buy?
GameStop and Best Buy have both stated that some stores will have launch day stock available for those who didn't preorder. How many, who knows. Maybe you can drop buy the store and try to get a feel for the situation from the employees.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. It's not FOMO it's more like Christmas, a roughly 8 year apart gaming celebration.

It's also mad to think that this is probably the last console with the big names that helped shepherd Nintendo into being primarily a console gaming company.

While i didn't sold my as it's more of a backup for playing games that are not on a switch, yes the thing you mention is really true. I really dislike the steamdeck thickness. It's not as ergonomic as my switch.

Shall i play BOTW or can i go straight to TOTK since they're (mostly) the same thing?

PS : these Nintendo game prices man...i want to get all the stuff that I missed like Bayonetta 2 and 3, Astral chain, Hyrule age of calamity etc but...they go for 60€ new or 40-45 used, lmao, welcome to Nintendo i guess...
Only Mario Odyssey can be found for cheap-ish (30-35 used).

BOTW is the superior game, in my opinion. Timeless masterpiece. TOTK is a lot more of the same, but in the end, lacks the wonder of BOTW. Still a solid game, but a miss.

I loved BotW and played it a few years ago, but it isn't until now I feel like returning to that Hyrule in TotK. So yeah I think you're absolutely right.

Not sure what it is with those PC tablets like the Steam Deck..... It's almost as if they were trying to make them look ugly.

The main difference I see is:

-PC handheld is chunkier and gives you the full power of the hardware

-Switch 2 is smaller and leaner, but literally drops in power by half when you undock it. Because the cooling fan is in the dock instead.

So PC handhelds are designed with moving parts inside, a bigger case, and vents. And Switch 2 isn't. That chunk stays near your TV with Switch 2.

Nintendo is banking that mass-market prefers a leaner, cuter handheld that drops in power when picked up to a bigger heavier thing with a fan inside. Of course, many of us would like the option to use the full power of the chip undocked, but it doesn't have a cooling fan, so even if we hack the thing, we will be in trouble.

Portability is important. I took my Steam Deck with me once. I might as well have been carrying a laptop.

Releasing a new console with only 1 new first party game at launch is bad. End of story.
Let's say you're right. What follows from this? That the Switch 2 isn't going to sell out at launch? That the console won't be a success ultimately? Or that people who want more first party titles should simply wait before buying the system?

My pre-order is preparing to ship but is estimated to deliver one the 11th :messenger_expressionless:

Oh damn… i Don't even have that i Reserve hardware at a big chain and they're usually very reliable but they wont tell you shit until they have the units at the store

Awful cover art of switch 2

Horrible with that Switch 2 label, and to make matters worse, those white letters that no one cares about and the QR code.

It damages the art.
