Nioh Review Thread

This will be my first time jumping into the full release of a Team Ninja game.

Pray that the game sells well for them.

60 fps and a great combat system deserves all the support it can get.

Doesn't Metacritic weigh bigger sites scores a lot more heavily than the smaller outlets.

Yep. If polygon were to give the game a 6/10 or something it would drop a point, but if "insert random no-name site" gave the game a 4/10 it wouldn't.

Crazy how it hasn't had 1 mixed or negative review yet, i guess i'll have to give it a go after i'm done with Berseria.

Can't wait to try co-op.
Co-op is sooooo damn fun in this game and works really well from past Beta experiences. Different co-op modes too and more coming in the near future! Team Ninja literally busted their asses and went all out with this game and it shows based on how much stuff there is/to do in this game.

The great thing what makes this game more playable in the end and new game+ than a Souls game is the additional mechanics, unlocks and importantly the Diablo like loot system to hunt down better loot.

Really hope this game sells also really well. Would love to see a Nioh 2.

Damn, really?

Now I am even more excited.

Love the Souls series, but wasn't feeling the demo here. The combat seems overwhelming at first.

How hard is it to learn and manage the different stances?

you really only need to master the ki pulse first; switching stances becomes incredibly easy after that

Me and my buddy were playing this for almost 4 hours nonstop in the "Yokai Realm with a Companion" mode which has you sharing one survival bar with your partner and depletes with each death. You can revive and the quicker your revive, the quicker the depletion pauses on total survival bar. There is strategy involved by stick together/positioning. It's just fun as hell to play with your buddy and fucking wreck some Yokai!

Watched a couple of Cowboy's videos and holy shit, this game's brutal. A lot of Souls fans who think they know it all are gonna get salty..

I've been having a mostly easy time with the overall world difficult, with the exception of a few particular missions/segments that get really tough. I feel like Nioh has much more of a difficulty ramp-up than Souls games do, which tend to be more of a gradual build. There's been a mission or two where I think the change in difficulty is going to be unfair to some players.

The bosses, though, are where you can really get humbled about your "Souls skill". There's one boss,
Yuki-onna
that I was trying to beat for five hours, and I was seriously at the point of tears over having to fight h
er
. And then, the next few bosses I just ripped through no problem.

Did they fix the coop where the other person helping you can be too OP, they should limit the partner and limit the amount of kills they can do in a time period

I am going to be a few days late to the party due to moving and needing to buy a new PS4, but I will be there. This game sounds like it is going to exceed expectations.

Sony skipping out on the holiday season and releasing a steady flow of quality games from Jan - March is something I can definitely get behind. Nice.

*grins*
I think later down the line they might add parameters to find players of the same skill set or a little above.

Just preordered digitally. First impressions and the latest reviews convinced me. Seems like the perfect ARPG for someone having a PS4 pro and a 1080P set at hand. Probably going to play in action mode predominantly.

Gaf is literally the only site where I see anyone put any stock into OpenCritic. Is it run by a gaffer or something? That would explain it lol.

That seems a bit unfair...

We outpace Metacritic direct Twitter engagement. Comparing first Nioh tweet:
https://twitter.com/Open_Critic/status/827065014632710144 vs https://twitter.com/metacritic/status/827066464486072321

OpenCritic 10x'd over the last year and should be hitting cash-flow positive this month.

I don't post this to brag... More just to assert that "OpenCritic is irrelevant" is wrong and lethal to our brand. Yeah, we are still in Metacritic's shadow, but we've made a lot of progress.

We need all the support we can get.

One other interesting data point we've found in our research: IGN and GameSpot are viewed as more "authoritative" than Metacritic when it comes to the average gamer looking at review scores. Most gamers don't seem to use any aggregator at all.

The 9.6 from IGN is worth a lot more than Metacritic 88.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Also decided to just pre-order. I already have so much on my plate to play, but I quite enjoyed the trials and the launch hype...well it stung its cursed tendril into me.

Oh Polygon being one of the last to review a widely acclaimed game means they won't be able to resist an edgelord score.

Watch it be something like no option to play as a female which "justifies" the low review

I'm pretty much expecting this. Oh, look everyone, we're so different.

They're already priming us with their review in progress bit on Metacritic:

Challenge is good, but we’re not yet convinced that Nioh handles its devotion to difficulty well at all times. It remains to be seen where the overall balance of these choices will fall when credits roll — whether we’ll be overjoyed at our skills in finishing such a tough title, or just relieved that we can put down the controller and let our blood pressure drop.

Basically "It's too hard. 6/10"
