Noted leaker claims to know the Xbox Ally Release date and price (Ally: $499. Ally X: $799. Preorder in August, release in October)

So much hate because it's say Xbox last week people was falling over the place with the MsI claw 8 AI now Xbox ally same thing better windows integrated now it's DOA…..Even though it has better dam near everything then steam deck and switch 2…..

That's basically a Switch 2.

They can't even sell their console at 250$, they're not gonna sell much of a weaker PC handheld.

This product is very niche. I don't see it having any success whatsoever.

It's certainly not going to knock any doors down, but I think the idea is it's going to be purchased by a small amount of very dedicated gamers who will be buying a lot of games and services. So the attachment rate will be very high despite the hardware itself not selling millions and millions.

Best to just check things out for yourself when you can.

Are you plaing with KB+M? I'm interested in GFN, but afraid that playing with KB+M will be a horror because of the input lag.
Yes I use KB+M for games like Indiana Jones, Cyperpunk, new Doom game etc. And controller too. Depends on the game. My biggest gripe with GFN at the moment is the lack of HOTAS support for games like Flight Simulator.

You want to talk about something that won't sell, this is it.

You think the official Nintendo one won't sell for 450 but, wait for it, the Xbox version will sell for a grand?
Morgan Freeman Good Luck GIF

10k units lifetime max if they are lucky.
1 Million.
750,000 cheaper version
250,000 expensive version

At the same resolution, the Z2 A (and the Z1) outperform the Steam Deck. Nothing insane but it's faster.

Hmm....very small increase in specs, but really the same chip as Steam Deck. Z2 A is Zen 2/RDNA 2, just like Steam Deck. Same cores/threads. You've got a boost clock of 3.8 vs 3.5 and a slightly higher TDP. 15 vs 20. So yeah....slightly faster.

It's DOA compared to what consoles sale yes. All these PC handhelds have sold like 6 million total.

Over 1000 are currently and everything they just showed at the Xbox showcase

1,000 isn't a lot. Do you know how many games come out every year?

The Rog Xbox Ally X with the new AI Z2 extreme at $799 sounds wishful.

Unless MS is actually absorbing some of the cost to get their new OS out on a powerful handheld asap.

I key word I think this handheld pc needed a name to bring them more into the mainstream…Why else would people be talking about the Xbox ally name brand…..just my opinion

Which very well could be the case. I doubt it's lost on them that this is an inflection point where if they don't play their cards right, steamOS could take a huge market away from them (between handhelds and console-esque under-the-tv PCs).

Could be MS has a deal worked out. Asus raised the price of Ally X on Best buy from $799 to $899. Throw Xbox in the name and charge $799.....what a deal!

Does anyone here own one of these handheld Windows devices?

I'm trying to understand what place it has in the market. I could see if it was your ONLY gaming device and you don't have a tablet or laptop or you live in the real sticks or something. But with shit like GeForce Now, xCloud, Remote Play, etc you can play just about anything on any device and get better performance on the backend than you ever will from a portable.

I am open to getting one I just don't know WHY haha. I have a Switch 2, a 5070 Ti rig and a Series X atm.

they raised the price on the Z1X model no less, there's no way the Z2X one will release in ~4 months for less

I have the OG Ally Z1X, it's pretty nice & I use it as my primary Windows device now but really only play games that I can't run on the Steam Deck OLED

Tbf, isn't the current Asus Rog Alley X sporting the Z1 Extreme? The recent price increase do seem a bit to convinient for sure, got to pump up that perceived value I guess.

But if the price sticks, it's going to be a good deal.

Yeah, Ally X is Z1 Extreme. Definitely a good deal at that price. Which is why it really doesn't make sense that Asus bumped the price up. Why would anyone buy Ally X over Xbox Ally X where they save $100?

Yeah, I have a Legion Go and a Steam Deck (along with consoles and a PC).

The Legion Go is more powerful than the Steam Deck but the battery life is terrible. Also, Windows as a OS on portable gaming devices sucks. I ended up installing Bazzite (Steam OS-like Linux) on the Legion Go.

That said, I don't really use the Steam Deck or the Legion Go much at all.

Handheld gaming just isn't for me. Even my Switch 2 is hooked up to my TV.

I plan to upgrade to the Z2X Ally once it releases too (it's why I stuck with my OG Ally instead of getting the Z1X Ally X) which is why I've sent my current one into Asus for the SD card reader repair right before the 2-year warranty runs out

there'd be zero reason to not get the better Ally X for less money unless it's somehow significantly crippled by whatever Microsoft is doing with Windows (like if they have no desktop mode for some reason)

Yeah, it does seem counterproductive...if they actually want to sell them. Seems like they really want to push every prospective buyer over to the Xbox branded one.

ROG Ally X has mysteriously vanished from all online stores where I live. Before the Xbox announcement it was readily available but now... poof just gone from the inventory. Original Ally is still up for purchase but no X.

Seems too expensive. Microsoft needs to subsidize that shit.

The Xbox Ally definitely needs to be less than $350); the Ally X no more than $600.

Still baffled by no touch pads.
Yeah I don't understand that. Are they really that certain that they can lock down all the Windows desktop nonsense in this new UI?

Seems very unlikely yeah. And I can't see why Asus would accept that Microsoft take the loss for them, pricing the Xbox Ally lower would kill the sales for their regular Ally.

Disagree. It has a higher resolution, 120hz screen, twice the storage, should have better battery life, and better performance.

The Ally X is the really interesting one. Should be like 50% faster than the Steam Deck.
50% faster doesn't mean much to me. The Deck loads everything quickly.

Are you saying 50% better tech improvement to run games at higher settings?

That's just play everywhere 2 copy's for 1 price…. It's a pc it willl play a lot just like now with rog ally and msi claw also there are only 3000k games on Xbox total so play anywhere titles at 1000 is a great start nobody complained about steam having the same amount

When you say you use it as your primary Windows device, do you mean as a workstation/productivity PC in addition to gaming?

I assume the Ally X will include Microsoft's AutoSR technology, since its AI performance is around the same as the Copilot+ PCs.
That ought to help out with performance if no game needs to render at anything about 720p.

$499? It's going to sell like hotcakes. Many people think it's an Xbox, and judging by the social media comments, a LOT of people want this handheld.

Predict 8-10 million units in three years or more.

Plus the other Xbox PCs.

I anticipate a lot of open box units at Best Buy because there will be a lot of returns.
