Ok, here are Kobe, Dwayne Wade, and Lebron's stats thus far this season:
Kobe:
Points: 29.0
FG%: .416%
Rebounds: 6.9
Assists: 6.0
Steals: 1.15
Blocks: 1.31
Turnovers: 3.92
Lebron:
Points: 26.7
FG%: .509%
Rebounds: 7.9
Assists: 6.2
Steals: 2.25
Blocks: 1.25
Turnovers: 3.33
Wade:
Points: 25.2
FG%: .527%
Rebounds: 4.2
Assists: 7.6
Steals: 2.00
Blocks: 1.42
Turnovers: 3.75
Question: If these stats remain consistent for the rest of the season, who should get the MVP nod?
Now, obviously, these numbers staying roughly as-is is a big assumption, particularly for some categories. In my personal opinion:
- Kobe's FG% will increase to between 44-46% for the season
- Wade and Kobe will both cut their TO's to about 2.5-3 per game
- Lebron's scoring average will come down 2-3 points, to around 24 ppg
- Wade's scoring average will decrease to about 23-24 ppg
- Lebron and Wade's FG% will decrease to around 48-49% for the season
- Kobe's steals/game will increase to around 1.6-1.8 per game
- Lebron's steals/game will decrease to around 2 per game
- Wade's rebounds will increase to about 5 per game
- Kobe, Wade, and Lebron's blocks/game will decrease to around 1-1.1 per game for the season.
Given the above rampant speculation, who would you give your MVP to? And do you see any trends in the #'s occurring that are different from those I stated? Obviously, this is ignoring Duncan and Garnett, who are the frontrunners for the MVP. Just figured this would be a fun thought experiment.
Oh yeah, let's also assume that all their teams finished with roughly equal records, with the biggest discrepancy being +/- 5 games.
