No, seriously. You're adding medals where there aren't any. 10 golds in track cycling, 34 golds in swimming, 14 golds in rowing, and 47 golds in athletics. Stop doubling everything.

I am not for removing any sport from the olympics. It is a competition, not a stage show. If there are people who are really into something and there is good competition, then go for it.

And the Shawn Johnson stuff in here is freaking me out. She's got like a mini linebacker's body and Dewey's face. I can't stop thinking of Malcolm in the Middle when she's on the screen.

They won't be a problem. Team USA has grown a ton since last playing them. Now that the games matter, I don't think we'll see a bored team on the floor.

women's water polo is all right. for one, the games are higher scoring, and for two... well, nip slips can happen!

swimming could hand out more medals really easily.

the don't contest the 50s except for freestyle in the olympics. They do the specialist strokes at the Worlds so 50 fly, back and breast could easily be added. but they aren't in to allow
the really long distance stuff.

Track cycling is already down from Athens, the mens 1K and womens 500M time trials have been sacrificed for BMX. The ICU wanted BMX in and the IOC told them to lose something. The track riders aren't happy. and going by this olympics it has probably cost the poms several medals.

syncro swimming is incredibly difficult. much much much harder than you suspect. those girls are athletes of the highest order. try something simple like holding your legs out of the water with your head down for 30 secs. I bet you cannot do it.


equestrian gives the rich something that they can do without the proletariat mucking it up.:D :D

Swimming has 4 stroke types. 3 of which are totally redundant. This is where the problem starts.

Compounded by the medley event.

Further compounded by the relays.

Too many events of a similar and/or totally superfluous nature.

They have only been invented due to the "TV audience" and nothing else. REMOVE THE STYLES, it should be fastest and fastest ONLY. The number of medals given to this niche sport is wholly unjustifiable.

I do question the size of the audience though, apart from Phelps' magic this year the sport is mind-numbingly boring to watch.

We know Keirin only made it because of bribery. FINA...I wonder.

As far as I'm concerned track cycling should not exist, cycling should be road race + time trial for men and women. 4 events total. End of.

HOWEVER having seen that list there are more pressing concerns. Jesus Christ. 15 for Shooting???? GTFO. GTFO.

Athletics is the Olympics as far as ratings go. Gymnastics is also up there.

Golf, Twenty20 cricket and Baseball should be in the Olympics.

Go away. Track Cycling has been been around for a long time, and it's incredibly difficult and incredibly popular. Golf shouldn't be in...countrys would need a massive golf course to train. It's not a worldly game. And baseball? Really? Who even plays that?

I've only recently warmed a lot more towards synchronised swimming. I think I rather watch people bend their bodies in crazy shapes whilst holding their breath for long periods under water than someone riding a horse. Ballet would only be interesting to me as an olympic sport if they included fire and bungie ropes somehow.

To be fair though there's also a doctor competing in the rowing, and recently a physiotherapist in training in the gymnastics.

does anybody have any idea what the hell is going on. Roy and HG in Australia started showing the highlights with Barry White as background music and gave the moves ridiculous but totally apt names. apart from that WTF?


also why not reduce athletics to the 100m and the marathon. all the other stuff is just sort of in between.

Please provide proof of track cycling’s popularity. It is a blip on the professional cycling radar. Cycling should only be road race, time trial and possibly a mountain climb thrown in. Nothing else.

Track cycling is a ridiculous concoction. Just because we won a stupid amount of medals in it doesn’t not mean I will defend it.

Golf should be in it is played by enough people. If Equestrian and other such rubbish is allowed then so should Golf.

Baseball is popular in the Far East, popular enough to warrant inclusion. Although to be honest Cricket is well ahead of it in terms of the right of inclusion. Egg-chasing also has a decent shout. But it’s egg-chasing.

Nope, you are thinking about Women's Softball, Cuba dominates Olympic Baseball. Not that I care about Baseball, but there is more nationalist pride for all countries in Baseball than BMX.

I’m all for the Olympics having as many sports as possible but when the jokers that run the thing limit the number then what do you expect?

Including golf is not difficult. Plus you’d only have 2 medals. Unless they want matchplay but that’s rubbish. 2 medals: Men’s and Women’s individual.

really only as stupid as your arguments against swimming and cycling. Hopefully something might register that just because you aren't interested, doesn't mean that others can't be or that the sport/event does not have some merit.

track cycling has a history almost as long as the bicycle itself. the different swimming strokes are as different technically as anything in gymastics so why not. and a 200 fly compared to a 50 free is like the difference between a men 100m sprint and a 3000m steeplechase.

Right what do you want? Ratings? You've given no evience for it being a "ridiculous concoction". It's about speed, team work, fitness, tactics...and World Records. You don't get world records in baseball.

Sailing: It just seems to depend more on chance than anything else. I'd rather have water skiing, boarding or even banana boat racing. At least they'd be more interesting to watch.
