You know as much fun as Moffat is having trolling internt kids over what season this is. in the end it will probably be known simply as "5" simply because for marketomg reasons. I know over her if you tried to put out the season as "1" people would get confused due to there already being a season one DVD. Even though the show is much more popular in the UK I still can't imagine it being released as anything other the series 5....

It is 5. It says so on the Blu-Ray/DVD boxset.

speaking of Torchwood (someone should probably make a thread is there isn't one):

The new story will follow a CIA agent (Rex) and analyst (Ester) who tackle an alien-related global issue. Torchwood, having been destroyed and disbanded, is "like a legend now ... it's like something that's ceased to exist and is now spoken of only in whispers." Soon, Rex and Ester are on the run and are seeking out the help of Captain Jack and Gwen.

"The two teams coming together is a big part of the story -- are they friends or enemies? There's a lot of sparks and excitement."

"We definitely have a really big story to tell," added executive producer Julie Gardner. "It's absolutely rebooted to welcome in a new audience." ....

The ten episodes will be very fast paced, telling a self-contained story with the miniseries "Children of Earth" being used as a template.

Being on Starz, the show could potentially take advantage of looser standards for nudity and violence.

"I've always had loose standards and practices," Davies said. "If the story demands intimacy or savagery, we will go there absolutely ... [but] there's nothing better than a great big global thriller that stops for a sex scene -- it's probably hard to make that happen in a thriller."
:lol

It's called 'Torchwood: The New World'

So I'm assuming there'll be some stupid over the top thing that Doctor Who completely ignores and leaves Torchwood in its own Whoniverse. The great thing is with now no-one knowing about aliens again, Torchwood has practically been sucked in to the crack. Cos EVERYONE knew about Torchwood within a 50 mile radius of Cardiff.

"This alien wants to fuck the planet... literally."

Wait how come nobody knows about aliens?

Thanks for reminding me why I dislike RTD.

Crack in time. People forgot, it seems. For the sake of good storytelling.
Huh. So everybody forgot everything? Or some people just forgot some things? Because really if everyone forgot everything that seems... problematic.

You kidding, the only thing that would've made it better would seeing a giant version of the Cyber-Doctor fighting off this thing.

Cyber-doctor storyline did happen guys you just don't know it.

It'll be people have forgot or remembered whatever is convenient for the plot of a future episode. Mainly any over the top modern stories by RTD.

they don't specify so they can leave it open. At the very least the general populace has no knowledge of the Cybermen or Daleks. So that's 2 finales and 1 xmas special out the window.

If anyone's interested the writers for season 4 of Torchwood have been confirmed

The writing team joining series creator Russell T. Davies for Torchwood: The New World has been revealed.

The Chicago Tribute reports that John Shiban, Doris Egan, Jane Espenson and John Fay will all write episodes for the show's upcoming fourth series.

Shiban has previously written for both The X-Files and Supernatural. His most recent work was on AMC drama Breaking Bad. Egan has penned several episodes of House and has also worked on Smallville and Dark Angel.

Jane Espenson wrote for both Buffy The Vampire Slayer and its spinoff Angel. She has also written episodes of Battlestar Galactica and prequel series Caprica. John Fay is the only writer to have previously worked on Torchwood, scripting the second and fourth episodes of third series Children of Earth.

Russell T. Davies previously admitted that he was unsure how many episodes of the series he would be writing himself.

Awesome that one of the writers of Breaking Bad is on board.

I really wonder if they're going to do a Doctor Who Episode to get Jack back. If they're trying to get this bigger in the US, on Starz they probably don't want to handle any baggage from the ending of Children of Earth.

They could have him turning up in America in the first episode being all "ah a fresh start" It would ruin his character development in a suitably RTD way

John Shiban was a pretty good writer on X-Files, so that's encouraging.

RTD has such a hard-on for Buffy, I'm not surprised he's getting writers from it.

I just noticed that the RRP for the S5 Blu-ray set is £80. That's ridiculous IMO. It's £20 above the also-overpriced Lost S6 set, and that isn't partly funded by the taxpayer :/

The Series 2 DVD Boxset was £70 when released, I believe. The only boxset I bought was the first one before series 2 and 3 went on sale a few months ago. I bought the Library 2-parter from iTunes and I can do without the specials.

But still, THIS IS WHY NO-ONE BUYS SERIES ON BLU-RAY! Films on Blu-ray are much cheaper compared to their DVD counterparts - if you get what I mean. That's hard to word. I'll get it as a Christmas present to myself. Damn near flawless season. The £80 can be like a tip for good service; though I'd like £20 back after the silurian two-parter.

Very nice, but where's the bow tie?

And the fez!

I miss it too, but think their tee shirt desigins are limited to a certain number of colours (4?), so the style would have to be different to fit a red fez and tie in.

I'd get it if it were a different pic of Matt, I think. I'm a cheap bastard so I want perfection for a tenner tshirt. :p

But god damn I want these posters:

For some reason they've based it on those first very promo shots from when Matt Smith got the part.

Ah, I knew I'd seen it somewhere before:

I somehow managed to successfully (and incredibly uncharacteristically) media blackout for this except for the wall of "MATTSMITHMATTSMITHMATTSMITH" from my facebook friends. So all I knew about was his name.

Interesting picture. So they were originally going to make him a vampire, eh? I would have joined Team Matthew.

Actually, I think the original costume planned was described somewhere as 'Neo from the Matrix meets Captain Jack Sparrow' in one of those behind-the-screens things. Then Matt Smith also got involved in the costume picking, and it changed quickly. Good. :lol

The first two seasons of Torchwood felt like a massive love letter to Angel. The format, the style, the bad monsters... Spike. Take your pick.

I did read somewhere that the BBC or BBC Worldwide approached Lego about Doctor Who, but Lego didn't think it had enough 'international appeal' (by which I assume they mean America).

SERIES SYNOPSIS
When C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy, he finds himself unearthing a threat which challenges the entire human race. The answers seem to lie within an old, secret British institute, known only as Torchwood. But Torchwood was destroyed, years ago, and the keys to the institute are held by its only two survivors - former Police Officer Gwen Cooper, who has long since disappeared along with her husband and child, and the mysterious Captain Jack Harkness, a man whose history seems to stretch back centuries.

With Rex under attack from all sides, in both the US and the UK, he soon discovers there are forces at work within every level of society, determined to stop Torchwood's return. As a chain of events across the world links together the most disparate and unlikely individuals - including a surgeon, a killer, senators and CEOs - a new Torchwood team takes shape. But this time, the threat is much closer to home, as they realize that their greatest enemy is mankind itself...

and information on the new character Rex

REX MATHESON (Actor TBD)
He’s 28, the golden boy.

Has been, all his life. Harvard education, fast-tracker in the C.I.A., destined for success. Though he’s never taken it easy – Rex hustles, seduces and campaigns to get where he is today. He can talk his way into anything, then charm his way out, fast. He’s made a lot of enemies, but his friends and lovers would defend him to death. His choice of career is significant. Someone like Rex could make a fortune in Wall Street, or Hollywood. But choosing the C.I.A. says a lot about him: that for all his swagger, he does believe in justice. And will fight for it.

Slowly but surely, we see him make friends. He’s thrown together a bunch of people known as Torchwood, the only people who might have the answer to a global mystery. To Rex, at first, they’re a bunch of freaks. Welsh women and World War 2 Captains, what’s that about?! But as they race from one crisis to another, dodging assassins, blackmail, corruption and conspiracy, from Washington to Wales and the slums of Shanghai, Rex forges friendships in the heat of fire. He learns to trust his new colleagues. And they realize that this dangerous, dazzling, reckless man is the best friend they could ever have, in a world going to hell.
They frighten us, men like Rex. We wish we were him; we never will be.
