I did read somewhere that the BBC or BBC Worldwide approached Lego about Doctor Who, but Lego didn't think it had enough 'international appeal' (by which I assume they mean America).

You suck Lego, imagine how nice a Lego Tardis would look or a lego cyberman fleet.

So I've been thinking. In a lot of the episodes since the series one "reboot", the Doctor hasn't really snapped and actively harmed an alien race has he? I know he drowned the Racnoss babies, but he never really got to a point where he demolished a threat. I know it goes against his codes and his character, but I would have expected him to have done something extreme at some point. Conversely we see good guys both human and alien get killed all the time and yet the bad guys either run away or are given a second chance. (That they squander over and over again)

I don't know if there's a "That's the point" companion gif to the "That's the joke" one, but err... that's the point.

It's Doctor Who not some nihilistic action show.

I'm not expecting it to be an action show, but there has to be a viable threat that doesn't back down even when the Doctor threatens them. Even the Daleks turn tail and run when things get heavy.

Didn't he effectively kill the fake-vampires in Venice this season? Weeping Angels were also wiped out from all of history in that two-parter. I think that, in most cases, the Doctor is more of a character that to his foes seems either incredibly prepared to handle anything, or at the very least insane enough to *attempt* anything. As to why good guys are killed but bad guys usually run: that's a lot of shows, not just DW. Probably because if the Doctor, the hero of the show, murders every evil race he comes across, he's just as 'bad' as the rest of them. Bad guys kill. Good guys scare others off.

Oh come on, you can't make your own LEGO Tardis?

edit: I hope to revisit this post...

Story idea for Torchwood sounds nice, Rex sound way to generic and way to much like Jack.

True. I suppose it makes sense that the Doctor's enemies often create their own undoing by leaving him options.

Fly the TARDIS in episode three of
The Doctor Who: The Adventure Games

TARDIS brings the Doctor's time machine to life like never before
Friday August 20th 2010: The BBC has today unveiled official details of the third episode from its pioneering series of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games.

Executive produced by Steven Moffat, and written by James Moran (Torchwood, Doctor Who), this third installment of the four-part series is called TARDIS - and will, for the first time, offer fans the opportunity to fly the blue box which is bigger on the inside.

"TARDIS is a brilliant, brilliant adventure" says Steven Moffat. "It's funny, touching, terrifying, amazing - everything a Doctor Who episode should be. Since 1963, kids have wondered what it would be like to control the TARDIS. Now we're handing complete control of the most powerful ship in all of space and time to a generation of children. Everybody duck!"

Ever wondered where those steps within the TARDIS go? Doctor Who fans will soon find out, as the game allows players to explore the Doctor's wondrous drawing room, featuring treasures and artifacts from his many adventures - a location specially created for the game, which will go on to form part of the Doctor Who canon.

The first two episodes of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games have been downloaded over 1.3 million times in the UK - and with episode three offering the opportunity to explore and pilot the world's most famous police box, it's sure to prove an equally massive draw.

With the TARDIS stuck in a riptide, and the Doctor sucked into space, Amy Pond must explore the secrets of the time machine in order to restore normality. The adventure will uncover the secrets of the TARDIS, unveil two brand new monsters - and allow players to pilot the TARDIS themselves.

James Moran's madcap script takes players on a frantic, funny and altogether surprising adventure which could only be told by a Doctor Who story. With full virtual likenesses of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, and music from Murray Gold, this adventure is as much a part of the Doctor Who legend as the TV series.

Doctor Who: The Adventure Games have been produced by a team drawing on the very best talent from TV and gaming. The interactive episodes are executive produced by Steven Moffat, Piers Wenger, Beth Willis and with Anwen Aspden (BBC Wales Interactive), alongside Charles Cecil, one of videogaming's most revered creators. The games are being developed by Sumo Digital, one of the UK's best game designers. Stories and scripts are from Phil Ford (co-writer Doctor Who 'Waters of Mars') and James Moran (Doctor Who, Torchwood Children of Earth). The project has been commissioned for BBC Online by the Vision Multiplatform team, headed up by Simon Nelson and is being driven by BBC Wales Interactive.

TARDIS will be soon available simultaneously on PC and Mac from the Doctor Who website (www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho). The game will be available for no extra cost to UK households. Users outside the UK will be able to purchase and download it on the same date - details will be put on the Doctor Who website.

I do like a good time travel mechanic in a game. I don't think that's one though. Doctor Who just doesn't translate to a videogame, I'm afraid. Though I'd be up for a Quantic Dream Doctor Who game. Press X to AMYYY!

I think a Doctor Who game similar in style to the Monkey Island games would be great.

Matt and Karen are both on The One Show tonight... and the only reason for anyone to be on there is to plug something. I was trying to guess why they would be on, and then came back to this thread and read about the game. Can they really be just doing the rounds to promote a game?

*wishes for clip from the DVDs or Xmas special*

Or a Mass Effect style RPG. Substitute Shepard for the Doctor and the Normandy with the TARDIS, and you've got gold. Instead of shooting things, you'd have to figure out how to defeat enemies by exploiting weaknesses and logic puzzles.

Maybe Matt's on to plug Karen.

The last time Matt was on, he talked about how he wrote some short stories he wrote about The Doctor and Einstein travelling together and said that they were crap. They cut to a clip and when they came back he had to apologise for saying crap.

Yeah, but the rest of that show was about some flowers missing from a roundabout, why old people love bingo, a missing cat that hates trees, and postcards.

PS: None of the above is true, but could be true as this is The One Show we are talking about.

Um...

The stars of Doctor Who, Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, join them to chat about fish and chips, action heroes and bird-watching. In homage to the great British fish and chip supper, they'll be seeing if they can run across 1000 litres of batter at the end of the show!

That's.... that's just terrific.

I'm hyped for The One Show!!!

All of time and space; everywhere and anywhere; every star that ever was. Where do you want to start? I want run across 1000 litres of batter of course!

On a side note, UKGAF, does anybody have a good batter recipe? I'd like to make 'authentic' fish & chips at home, but the only British person I know IRL keeps hers a secret.

The girl who replaced Christine Bleakly is nice, Karen is nice

Spoiler: They showed a photo of the Xmas show. THERE WILL BE
SNOW
IN THE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL!!!!

Soda Water COLD (put it in a fridge, put ice in it, make it COLD, put it in the freezer, but dont let it turn to ice) COLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. Flour and any spices you like - it really does not matter once you like it (maybe some finely chopped parsley?). If you used ice, then take out the ice beofre you start. Add enough flour to COLDDDDDD soda water to make it kinda sticky (use a spoon to see will it stick to it). It needs to be still watery but enough to coat the fish when you dip in in without falling straight off. Add spices/herbs. Stir.

Deep fry in oil. The colder the soda water is the lighter batter will be (more bubbles!), which makes it more awesome.

Thanks, man. I'll give it a shot. Any particular type of fish/oil?

Don't make french fries. Proper chips should be massive and chunky. They're also so much better than fries.

I am not sure, but I heard on a few cooking shows that there is no need to use really high quality oil if you are frying. Once you warm it up it takes away what make it a quality oil in the first place.

It's physically impossible to make authentic fish and chips without an industrial sized frier from a proper chip shop.

That goes for the fish and the chips (which are absolutely not French Fries in any way).

Not even restaurants in the UK can do it.

My mum swears by a recipe that works towards beer batter but substitutes (IIRC) sparkling water instead. It's remarkably light and not quite so claggy to choose through.

If I remember, I'll ask her for the exact recipe when I chat to her this weekend.

I appreciate the help, gents. I'm going to try this tomorrow for lunch. I'll post pics.

This will be my second foray into English cooking. Odd that my French chef instructors didn't think British food was worth teaching. I wonder why.....

The best bit by far about British cuisine (apart from fish and chips, which really are impossible to do properly in the home) is the desserts.

No country on Earth comes close to the variety and quality of a British desserts. Particularly the steamed puddings.

I guess because Britons have to make up for the lack of imagination in the main courses.

Another stupid question:

Can the Doctor ever die? Like six feet under ground dead and not regenerating/"dead"?

Mr. Sam

If he runs out of regenerations (he can regenerate twelve times) or gets, y'know, killed killed. Like falling in a volcano or something.

So when the twelfth Doctor comes around..would it be safe to assume that the then-writers would retcon the twelve regenerations to take it further? They'd have to do something like that unless they elect a new character to fill the Doctor's shoes.

Is there a specific reason why there are only 12 regenerations allowed?
