Crap.

We should have traded for Rex when we had a chance.

There's a reason for this:

Supposedly Alex Smith has been playing hurt for the past 3 weeks, and Coach Nolan has been saying he's 100%/ the shoulder is not affecting him.

check out what was posted in another forum:

Smith felt abandoned by Nolan after that press conference, when Nolan suggested that Smith could get benched.

Look, for the past 3 weeks, Smith has been playing with pain, and taking all kinds of criticsm because of his performance. Still, he goes to the press every day and says that his shoulder is fine, which is the official line of our coach.

And then, when everybody is asking for his head, his coach, for whom he has been literally lying all this time, instead of defending him, throws him under the bus??

I think Alex simply though: "ok, screw it, if he is gonna take a shot at me, I may as well tell the truth about my injury."

Maybe I'm reaching a little, but that's how I look at the situation right now.

Considering the money invested, I'd say Nolan won't be.
I hope so, I mean when Norv jumped ship to SD, Nolan should have had a back up plan for O.C. He didn't, and that's where he failed. If your OC is going down to Dallas for a job, and he gets denied, it doesn't mean he won't go to another team to get hired.

i knew something wasn't right. you look at our first 3 weeks and alex was our best player out there. no we weren't putting up numbers like the pats, but we were at least competing out there and it was because of alex. he single handedly beat the cardinals. take away the drops in the first 3 games and he probably gets out of those 3 games with a 2-1 record, 5 TD's and 1 pick.

but like he said no excuses. i said i had lost faith in alex but that was too quick of a reaction. the dude is playing with a separated shoulder, putting it all on the line for the team, and how do we repay him? let him get crushed everytime he drops back. im sure there is no stat on record for it but i'm 100% certain alex smith gets hit/knocked down/sacked the most (percentage wise per pass) out of any starting qb in the nfl.

i like nolan as a person but he has to go. this season has been unacceptable. he has no vision. the same week its the same crap. "oh we had our chances, oh its a matter of execution, oh we will fix this, oh we will fix that" and it never happens.

nolan doesn't have what it takes to be a coach right now. at this point i just want an exciting offense put on the field after 4 years of CRAP. i hate to say it but i would even be willing to give mike martz a chance. as crazy as that SOB is at least he would get our offense running in a decent manner. yeah he'd blow games for us by calling a pass on 3rd and inches, or by challenging a call he shouldn't at a crucial time, but it's better than how we're losing now.

people always say "oh i'd rather lose in a blowout than a heart breaker". the only people who say that are people who are constantly losing close games. im tired of having nothing to cheer about during our games.

Do you remember a few years ago when Martz challenged the opening kickoff of the season against the Niners? That man was comedy gold.

actually dude, that was a good challenge.

because theres a little-known rule, if you have one foot out of bounds, and you catch a kickoff, it should be spotted on the 40. i cant remember if there wasnt clear evidence for it or what though, was awhile back. but i do know it wound up being spotted on the 1 yard line, so he wanted to avoid that.

Well, he was ultimately wrong. But it was just this glorious moment when it happened. My buddies and I (Bear and Jet fans) all know that Martz loves to challenge, so to start the season with a wrong challenge was just too perfect for words.

yeah, it really set the tone for that game sadly.

i still remember that otis amey guy returning a punt on us, hes probably not even in the league anymore. our special teams were so bad under martz.

how crazy could it end up that after all the shit they took, the Texans might have picked the right player out of Mario Williams, Vince Young and Reggie Bush?

That TO thing... kind of like the NFL fining Chad Johnson for Ocho Cinco, but then using it in promos on the Network. Sucks.

Bah, my late game is Washington/Dallas....although they all kinda suck for the late game.

Kara: Bask in MJD and Marcedes Lewis! LOVE THEM!

Everything coming up roses for the Niners.

http://49ers.pressdemocrat.com/default.asp?item=699246

Tight end Vernon Davis was first in line to question the 49ers' game plan. Davis has a point. He is the team's best weapon in the passing game. Yet, on numerous occasions Davis was kept into block.

Davis had 13 catches for 148 yards the past two weeks, yet it wasn't until the fourth quarter that he saw a pass come his way. For the evening, Davis was the target of two passes. He caught one for just 4 yards.

"We didn't attack the way we should've," Davis said. "I was on the back side protecting a lot. They didn't put me down the field, for some reason."

Davis said he approached Nolan on the sideline to inform him that he had been blocking for most of the game. He said he just wanted to let him know that he felt like he could help if he were more involved in the offense.

"I don't know what was on his on his mind. I let him know . . . I made him aware that I was on the back side blocking a lot," Davis said. "And I was pretty much telling him I wanted to help this team. I asked him why he thought I was on the back side blocking."

Did Davis get an answer?

"No, he was into the game," Davis said.

Alex was horrible on Monday, but at the same time the line was horrible and the receivers drop every other pass.

You are probably right about his injury affecting him, but if that is the case the coach should not play him. I said it last year with Ben and I think it is true with every qb. Only play when you are well enough to lead your team to the win.

crap, leonard davis injured his knee and ankle in practice today. they're not sure of the severity of it.

Details of Davis' injury

OG Leonard "Bigg" Davis suffered a sprained left ankle when a teammate rolled up onto his leg during today's practice. His knee is OK!
We should know more tomorrow about the severity of the ankle injury.
If Davis can't go Sunday, Cory Procter will take his place at right guard. Joe Berger, who has been inactive all season, would become the backup.

He will be fine.
Oh and Woodchuck, don't worry. If you're scared, just listen to the DALLAS-theme and everything will be AAAALLRIGHT:

Their is a stat for hits/knockdowns. I know the guys from Football Outsiders record that stuff, but I don't know if they have them available at the moment.

wow, the only game I get that I will watch on sunday is the cards/bengals game. Everything else is crap for me... washington/dallas as the fox late game, and my CBS game is pitt/jets, also the late game.

Roy actually had a good game on Sunday. The TD that he gave up was just great throw by Eli. Roy had good coverage but Greg Ellis messed up on covering the underneath. Roy did what he was supposed to do and prevent anything deep. He also had a great day in stopping the run.

What other strong safety would you see from the NFC? Roy isn't historically a good safety, but it's not his fault the other strong safeties in the NFC aren't very good either.

:lol i'm so pumped to see some dragon unleashing this weekend.

people here in chicago are going nuts.

earlier today on espn radio clayton was being interviewed and he brought up a good point. not only is the NFL godawful right now (seriously, sixth best team is probably jacksonville who has no talent at either QB or WR?) but how bad of shape has the QB position fallen? In a couple years Favre retires, and a couple years after that Peyton will probably retire. What then? the only two "superstars" at QB will be Brady and Romo, with maybe another 2 QBs in the league that are "sweet" on top of that are Romo and Palmer.

But yeah... bad year.

The Chargers aren't the local team!!!

The NFL sure thinks that people in LA love them though.

I understand what you are saying and I tried to make this point last year, that the NFL as a whole is 80% crap teams, with no depth and little offensive line continuity. The talent level of individual players has never been greater .. but the "TEAMS" are not better because of it.

All that being said .. Manning/Brady are possibly going to be the top 2 QB's of all-time (or at least in the discussion) when it's all said and done. It almost unprecented to have them play against each other in the prime of thier careers. Rarely do they all-time great QB's overlap each other in such a fashion. Maybe Elway/Favre or Staubach/Bradshaw would be the closest comparisons.

I still think you need to put Carson Palmer in the status of "elite" QB in today's NFL. He still has incredible tools, despite all the crap that is going around him.

I think QB play has been pretty bad, but according to this article: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7445720, QB play has been comparable if not better than previous generations.

All he basically does is compare QB ratings, so I don't know if that stat gives the full picture.

Alright, so I finally got a taker for Ward, although its a bit more complicated than I had wanted.

I Give:
Hines Ward
Rudi Johnson
John Beck

I Get:
Jeff Garcia
Chester Taylor
Alex Smith

I've made peace with losing Ward, as long as I get Garcia and his delicious playoff sched (at Houston, Atlanta, at San Francisco). Beck I can burn since I'll never need anyone other than Ben and Garcia unless one gets injured, in which case I guess Smith can be Smith. Johnson has been a disappointment since I acquired him, but he does have a really nice playoff sched as well (St. Louis, at San Francisco, Cleveland) and, I mean, he's got to get better eventually right? My RB situation is already tenuous (Jessie Chatman getting Baltimore and the Pats to close out the season and now facing a possible Ricky situation, and Maroney who hasn't scored all damn season), and Taylor is a stopgap until A-Pete comes back and makes him irrelevant, so I'm not sure how that makes me feel. One possibility is taking a gamble and asking for Jamal Lewis instead of Taylor and hoping he becomes not terrible again.

In two years the AFC north will be the pinnacle of QB play with Big Ben, Horse Balls Anderson, and I deserve better than this shit, Palmer leading the NFL in passing.

I think you're crazy if you think that. Bush needs competent playcalling and time to adjust. Vince is from Texas, he is a sinner.

Not to mention the whole David Karr thing. They should have picked a quarterback.

OK, Brandon Jacobs wants a rule where players can't tackle running-backs below the knees....should we just go to flag football already?
