Overwatch |OT| My Onlywatch Has Ended

Mei really needs to be reworked, I can't actually think of a champion in any other MOBA/Hero Shooter/Whatever that makes you feel so powerless to play against her. She just has the tools to shut out 90% of the cast.

McCree. Flashbang into Fan is WAY better than stacking the freeze into headshot icicle. Her ice wall can be very powerful on certain maps and she has a great Ult, but I would say McCree's ult is more useful overall. Mei, while she can CC tanks for a while, struggles to actually kill them in any expedient timeframe. Mei also struggles mightily against ranged attackers, her icicle has damage dropoff so it isn't a fantastic sniping tool, you need at least 2 headshots to kill people from range with it. McCree can melt any tank in seconds with Fan Roll Fan. From what I saw of competitive play, Mei basically doesn't exist while dual McCree is perfectly normal.

If Blizzard were to balance this game around high end competitive play, we'd see Mei and Bastion BUFFS well before we'd see a lot of things. Bastion probably needs a total redesign more than buffs though, his design is based mostly around Turret Mode and Turret Mode is just poor design.

yes...it looked fun but its not fun for me playing it
How much have you played? I had a "eh it's alright" to "damn this is fun" transition once things started clicking with me, but that took a few hours of the beta to happen.

Not saying that it's a guarantee though, if the game doesn't work for you that's a shame :/

I think it'd be nice if we got daily challenges that would reward a loot box or some coins. These boxes are only gonna come slower as I level up, and some folks aren't fans of getting less as time goes on.

You're never killing her with D.Va though, ever, if it's a competent Mei. D.Va just doesn't have the damage while staying out of range of ice shit to kill her + go around wall + pop icicle, and expect that none of Mei's team will show up in that 15 seconds it takes.
It's not actually that hard to take on a decent Mei if you're decent as D.Va. Just get up in her personal space. The freeze is annoying, but you don't actually need to stay out of range. All the armour HP means the actual freeze spray doesn't actually do much against D.Va and you can just keep invading her personal space with boosters. Or get out if she panic ults. That buys a lot of time for anyone else to come in if you can't finish her off yourself.

Pretty damn lucky that you just happened to launch it at the right trajectory to wipe almost the whole team.

Luck had nothing to do with it!

Luck had some part to do with it. I do know how to aim D.Va's self-destruct decently well, especially in open areas - it arcs down very quickly. Plus the the blast radius is nothing shy of ridiculous. That being said, I was watching the payload move and keeping an eye on the top to see how many players were pushing it - I was expecting three kills at most, so that was lucky.

Got a 5 kill Hanzo ult attacking point B on Anubis against 2 reinhardt's and 2 bastion's trying to cheese defend

Patience and range. The freeze is only painful up close, Ice Wall is more an annoyance because of its short duration, and her Ice Block heals her, but also leave her sitting in place.

McCree can Flashbang > Fan the Hammer. Widowmaker headshot. Pharah can rain down pain without ever getting in range. A Reaper surprise means a dead Mei before she completely freezes you and he can even shrug that off with Wraith Form.

Mei is more annoying than anything. She's the bottom of the tier list last I checked.

Funniest thing, half the folk saying "OMG can't believe they put micro transactions in" the other half saying "I bought 50 loot boxes".

You can completely ignore the micro transactions because they add nothing to the game, just open boxes as you level.

Blizzard would have to be nuts not to put them in, this game will be raking in the cash in loot box sales more than actual game sales already because people gotta have that 1 skin they desire ASAP.

In a month or two when people stop being new to the game, all the Mei and Bastion crying will end and all the McCree and Widowmaker complaints will begin.

It evens out to a set amount of XP after 20 levels so it doesn't get any slower than it does at level 20. You get one loot box for a couple of hours of playing at the very worst.

Mess tbh. Just had a game (which we did win) but only me and a lone Tracer actually went for the objective. :/
I want to ask, what does it mean that people aren't going for the objective? I ask, because although I do try to play for it, but often I get stuck on the way to it and have to fight off a flanker which makes me feel bad when people are whining in chat afterwards. I generally play either support, offense or Junkrat, although I've decided to force myself to try other playstyles when I get home tonight.

I want to understand better how I should approach combat situations, and when to ignore situations and move to the objective instead.

The turret that Torb puts out is probably the saddest thing to die to. So close to getting out alive and a turret sprinkles me with some bullets from across the plaza. :(

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
This game is so much fun. It's been ages since a team shooter has grabbed me this hard. D Va is definitely my main, although I've had a blast with McCree, Pharah, and Mercy tonight. It helps a lot that there isn't a single hero I *dislike* playing, so I can always switch to help the team without feeling like I'm being burdened. I will likely play this for a long, long time, especially if the support is good and ranked is well put-together.

Also, my luck with the chests is ridiculous. There's no way I ever get good pulls ever again. First night and I got:

Arctic Zarya
Riverboat McCree
Scavenger D Va
Firefighter Mei
...and enough gold (couple of purple coin drops and one orange) to get Thunderbird Pharah. This is mostly from the crates you get for leveling up (I got to 12) although I did drop a tenner on chests because I'm a sucker.

I got to 11 or 12 aaaaaand got nothing a single epic with the rest blues, only one of those blues being a skin. Epic was a play of the game animation for Hanzo.

...which also kinda mirrors my awful beta luck, where I didn't get any legendary skins until I was level 23 or so.

Killing the other team may help skew the match in your favor, but it's not the point of the game. If you're chasing an enemy when you could be capturing a point you're doing it wrong. If your entire is dominating in escort, but no one's moving the payload, you still lose.

Whatever the point of the match is, do that. If you kill someone while trying to do that, good. But don't put killing ahead of that, unless you're either a hard flanker (Reaper, Tracer, Genji) or a far backline hero (Widowmaker).

Today hasn't been my day for winning, since I've lost like 80% of my matches. I know it's typical to say "It's because of my team", but I'm getting 15+ kills and under 5 deaths a game, and I try my hardest to defend/attack. When can I get paired with people who've actually learned to use the characters they're picking?!?! AHHHHHH!>! Bkrwdcnjudh

Rant over.
I very much love this game.

some more people want to add me on battle.net?

first shooter ever for me on PC..but won all three of my games so far. I'm not bad with D.VA. had a 18 killing streak with her :D Love this game so much.

Blizzard will make so much money with merchandise from me.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Second time playing the game and just got a 19 killstreak with Tracer.

Game is so awesome.

I mean, the game's been out ten hours-ish. A lot of people won't have had time to learn characters yet.

Coming from Counter-Strike, this game is equal parts infuriating and amazing. Getting killed by Junkrat spamming grenades feels like shit and isn't very fun at all, but doing crazy jumps with Tracer to get behind enemies and pick them off is fantastic. Lots of ups and downs. If I let myself just play, it's pretty fun. Trying to play competitively feels like wading through chunk, fruity pebble vomit.

Hey guys - I luckily managed to preorder the PS4 version of this last night just before release so I get my Noire skin (thankfully)

Anyone want to let me know how the game 'feels' on PS4 compared to PC? Is there a significant disadvantage from not playing by mouse+keyboard?

Christ I'm knackered. Was up till 5am and now I'm wrecked at 945am. Love this game.

Anyone have any good control schemes for Genji and Pharah on console? I can't aim glide/double jump shoot at the same time on a pad. Gonna do some experimenting in training mode.....and have some coffee.

Blizzard's taken great care to actually balance the console versions differently from PC to take into account pad vs KB/M. From what I read during beta and the little I tried on my PS4, the game felt fine to me on console.

they changed some stuff for the PS4/console version.

but for me something seemed strange about the PS4 controls, especially after playing doom on my PS4, so I went with the PC version
You're EU yeah? (I remember from BDO I think, Petra). I'll be on in the next few days and I'm looking for more people so I'll give a shout.

yes!

yeah its definitely more casual friendly. I also think they designed with consoles in mind. Because aiming on consoles will always be inferior to mouse.

(although I sometimes see other snipers sniping like they're playing with a mouse)

I might buy a few. Traded in a few games and ended up only paying 6 clams for it so I'll give them some love.

Thanks for this guys - I didn't play the beta so I'm going in blind HOWEVER my thoughts are that if it turns out not to gel well for me, I'll just trade it in for No Man's Sky - it's win-win.

Game is really fun. Just wish they'd up the tick rate because I get so annoyed by dying to Hanzo just aiming near me and getting easy kills. I'd at least like to be sure the person is really skilled aiming if I die a lot to him.

Didn't know Zenyatta could be hooked by Roadhog while in Transcendence. Surprised the hell out of me when it happened.

Guessing Reinhardt's charge could still pin him too right?
