Overwatch |OT| My Onlywatch Has Ended

I bought a 20 pack because I got a $35 discount on my collector's edition from Amazon. Just throw another $20 Blizzard's way for an excellent game.

Is it just me or does it feel like Defend has an advantage in the two capture point mode. In last night's scenario, as Reaper, I was able to barge into the second control point where the other team was defending it, and annihilate them with my super. But since their respawn was so close, they were back within just a matter of seconds. I was actually able to get my super off again, and yet they were once again able to come back and keep their point capped.

Maybe I was with a bad team?

I'm trying to enjoy playing as Mercy, but damn is it tough to pick her when I know that I can play as Lucio, who you can actually fight back as. I have never had a game with more than 4000 healing points as Mercy, whereas I average 6700 with Lucio, and 12 eliminations. I get that they are different types of healers, but the choice has been easy for me so far.

I want to love Mercy, I really do.

Had to switch pc's since my current ones CPU was deciding to be unstable in this game. Nice to see the fps stays at 140+ on a single Titan X at 1440p @ High.

Though I noticed that the input lag issue I had is mostly gone. Wonder if that was SLI and/or max graphics settings causing it.

Also, can we not spectate games? The option is always grayed out for me.

I found that mode a bit annoying even as someone who likes playing every character. It was VERY skewed towards defense, as attackers die more often as a rule. They'd start getting characters like Widow, Bastion, Torb and you'd end up with Symmetra or something.

It was funny getting Soldier 76 in that mode though. I typically go on a rampage every time I play that guy and it was even more ridiculous against people unused to their characters. I should really use him more. Played him once last night and went on a massive kill streak + POTG (which is very hard when playing with my friend who is extremely good at McCree).

Yeah, there would be those games where it just seemed like the enemy got all spot-on picks while we didn't, or vice versa. Fortunately, I still have a good time while losing in this game since there's always the chance of a clutch win or momentum swing.

That, I think, is this game's greatest success and where it mirrors classic stick-it-in-my-veins gameplay greatness like in vanilla Team Fortress 2 or Unreal Tournament.

For the people right now actively participating in the launch buzz, what kind of feelings or predictions do you have about the game's longevity right now? I'll only be able to start playing this game in exactly one month from today (university related), so I really hope I won't be missing out on anything. This seemed like a vey exciting game during open beta, so I hope it stays like that even after the initial launch buzz.

I've become pretty decent with keeping Lucio on walls. I'm surprised more and more people aren't evading that way. It's really fun to use the speed buff and go around someone in circles shooting them lol.

You can spectate. Usually if I join on a friend in a full match it throws me into spectate since the match is full.

My bad. Still not used to this whole buying loot boxes thing lol.

Yeah, plus it looks like that was either a legendary or epic cash drop.

I've only played like 20 minutes but already feel I'm so terrible at it. But I did enjoy it, I just can't seem to get comfortable with any character yet. D:

But regardless, I will do my best! ٩(`・ω・´)وファイト!

I couldn't get into the groove for 2 betas. The final beta it finally clicked and I've been having fun ever since.

You'll get there.

I keep not using it because I forget to remap his jump to something else.

Take them out from a distance. Torbjorn's turrets have a max range. Widowmaker, Hanzo, Pharah are all good options. If they're clumped together then Pharah or Junkrat will be able to take out quite a few at once.
hmmm ok probably just me not knowing the counters to some matchups yet, didn't really see any of this cheese in the beta so was a little caught off guard. Still I imagine it still woulda been tough with 5 people working together to spawn trap us and 6 solo Q people trying to get out.

I pre-ordered the game based on my experience with the game in closed beta and open beta, and I won't be able to play the game until July since I'm traveling until then. Game is incredible, and I don't doubt its longevity.

The great thing about it is that you don't unlock gameplay impacting items like weapons, unlocks, perks, killstreaks, and other bullshit that has seeped into modern FPS. So when you start playing in a month, you'll be on the same level as the people you're playing against (minus the knowledge of heroes and maps, which you'll pick up over time). In that sense you're never going to be "behind" in terms of competitiveness just because you played less than others.

It's my favorite thing about Overwatch if I'm being honest.

Looked at the trophy list on a 3rd party site (psnprofiles) and they are definitely reporting percentages incorrectly. lol. Wonder what is up with that. I'll be impressed if someone ever gets every single one of these.

It really depends on the map type. For capture and hold 100% Lucio. You need to boost people to the point at the start and you'll usually have everyone around you.

Mercy can be better on escort and point capture maps because she is a really great siege breaker and anti-siege breaker but it depends far more on player skill. One of my games on Route 66 last night a friend on Skype asked if they could try Mercy. I said sure. He got creamed and frustrated. He switched over to Junkrat, I switched back to Mercy and we held the point at the final destination.

Mercy definitely has more flexibility and more potential than Lucio. Lucio is obscenely easy to play though.

I'm just going to add one tidbit before work time.

Since I time playing Multiplayer shooters on both the PS4 and Xbox One, I personally prefer the Xbox One controller playing these type of games.

Don't know what it is but it feels I have better reaction time with the Xbox One controller and it feels more comfortable than the PS4 controller.

Same. I mentioned yesterday that it reminds me of the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer system, where people bought booster packs that provided benefits and unlocks. That in turn funded free maps and characters, which avoided splitting the userbase and resulted in a steady stream of content.

It's a good system.

No it's not a good system, for the people buying the loot boxes. There's no justification for randomised loot other than publisher greed. Selling the actual cosmetics and other contents would be a good system, which is why the most commonly praised F2P games use it. Using one of the more abusive monetising mechanisms in a P2P game shouldnt be applauded.

I think overwatch provides enough motivations for different types of players. If you want to collect everything, you can certainly try. I'm sure someone is going to do it. You can work towards mastering each character at a time. You'll (perhaps next month, mid to late) be able to play ranked seasons and try to rank up in a more competitive environment. And even if you just play every once in a while, brawl changes weekly so there is often a reason to come back and check that out.

edit:
Forgot to mention that new maps and heroes will be added... and free.

So yeah, I think OW has pretty good staying power.

It's weird, I expected to start out no so OK, but after playing a character for a round or two, it just "clicked" for me.

I'm kinda starting to get the hang of Junkrat now. It's always good to try and get a handle on a few different characters, because you'll need to switch on the fly due to different situations.

Just keep practicing, and there's always the practice arena you can check out as well. Get a feel for each character's abilities.

I wasn't at all thinking about ranked mode until last night. Apparently my friend dragged his CS people into this game and they are pretty damn good.

Also my ENTIRE bnet friends list was playing it. That didn't happen even during open beta. Insane.

It's good in the sense that, as someone who doesn't intend to buy loot boxes, I don't feel like I'm at a disadvantage in earning skins. Allowing people to buy individual skins would make it more attractive for people to spend money because you're getting the "advantage" of being able to pick the skin you unlock. If you get loot boxes through the normal course of the game, you don't get to pick; you get skins at random. As a result, that system would incentivize gamers (who are already buying the game mind you) to spend cash as it provides an advantage in earning skins.

If you can only buy loot boxes, I don't feel any more incentivized to spend money. Purchasing them doesn't give any advantage other than speeding up the time it would take you to earn more loot boxes. It provides the purchasers with the chance of getting the skins they want sooner (and more than likely earning enough credits to buy whatever skin they want), while not providing an unfair advantage that aims to incentivize non-paying users to buy into the microtransaction system.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
10 Boxes and nothing too cool, I am now upset that my very first box in the open beta had a legendary skin ><

This game.

Man, had a full stack of friends playing last night and we had some awesome games. We had one where we were both at 99% each side and basically became a fight to hold the point in overtime. One of my buddies ended up holding the point on his own against three of the other team while we were spawning in and trying to overtake it. Was so much fun.

So I have this on PC and console. Didn't play on console in the beta, and the first thing I noticed is how difficult it is to aim and hover as Pharah. Do people remap jump for her to LB or LT or something?

L2 on ps4 by default isn't it?

Best game of the night was stopping an entire team at 99% to our 0% to come all the way back and win 100 to 99.

What is it about blizzard games that gets people to comment on my ratchet and clank related tag? Never happens on Xbox or steam but twice in Hots and 4 times now in Overwatch.

I got 3 legendary costumes in 3 consecutive loot boxes. Either I'm the luckiest guy or they've turned down the rarity somewhat (Punk costume for Tracer, Ifrit for Zenyatta and Shiva for Symmetra if you're curious)

Good points. I know that Mercy is supposed to avoid direct confrontation, and I struggle with keeping my placement good with her. Lucio is definitely easier to play, maybe that's why I'm better with him, haha

I think my favorite moment last night was holding the final point on Hanamura desperately during a huge push. Hit Transcendence to save my McCree friend as he tells them what time it is, and then I suddenly see 5 assists scroll up on my screen.

Previously in that match I somehow managed to hold the first point by myself as Zen and killed 4 people solo (they ran in one by one). I was actually a bit annoyed by that high noon because it got POTG over that multikill, lol.
