Persona 5 Review Thread

I feel like the Jimquisition review would derail it more than DT's review...

Well seeing as how the latter is full of game criticism and the former states their only complaint about the game is that the can't play it on different HW for which they apparently lowered the score of the game for yea I'd say you're probably right. One is an actual critique and the other is somebody using their SW review to complain about not being able to play the game on their preferred platform.

I wonder if this will get a 5/5 from Easy Allies. Or just another 4.5/5. Excited.

I fear it will be Zelda BotW all over again, so prolly another 4,5.

Let's see if the game can stay at the 94 mark, I guess it will drop to 93 eventually though.

Completely agree with Laura's quote in the OP.
I'm sure I'd absolutely love this game, but I cannot bring myself to play a game this big on a console. It took me almost 2 years to beat Persona 3, never ended up beating FES; but I went through Persona 4 Golden in like a few weeks.

I never realized how stupid review score drama is until I saw the first few pages of this topic. It shocked me so hard, I've decided to live out the rest of my life sheltered from numbers :/

I dont think those three combined are higher than FFXV in sales, no. All of them? Eh probably really close. Either way the point was that a stupid comment was made about FFXV being the least successful which is laughable in any sense of the word.

Now quality wise obviously he has a point. I'm of the opinion that FFXV should've had a lower score than 81 since I didnt enjoy it nearly as much as the other games.

I mean. We have reported numbers for FFXV, DS3, and Nioh. And for Zelda, even the worst selling 3D Zeldas have done over 3 million (while the best have done 8+). FFXV was at 6 million. The is no way BOTW won't do at least 2 million if it hasn't already.

But yeah, the comment was obviously silly, especially considering one of the games he compared had a lower score than FFXV.

This game would be sooooo good on Switch. Huge shame it will never be released on it.

After giving it a little more thought, I suppose I'm alright with calling it out in a review. I wasn't at first. People should at least be aware of it.

I think its great that in America we have a fairly progressive attitude towards many things, LGBT issues included. I have a hard enough time taking care of myself let alone worrying about what other people are doing.

However, I do think its wrong to expect that everyone in the world shares those progressive views.

Also, be clear that it didn't affect my score—honestly, the broken Share button was far more of a knock review-wise for me than those characters were.

But, I still couldn't not mention them. I never brought up the issues I had with either P3 or P4 in terms of LGBT issues in my reviews, because there are indeed cultural differences at play, and I think on some level you have to understand that. In this case, though, portraying gay men as having attractions to and chasing young boys is something that I think goes beyond those cultural differences—because, I mean, there are plenty of gay men living in Japan. I don't think it's okay for them to be portrayed that way, no matter the culture.

We need a Japanese dominated gen again.

Bring on a big push for Ridge Racer, Silent hill (lol),

well

I am very happy we are getting a new Disaster and Shenmue too! So tired of western, ubi soft, cinematic games honestly.. Thank you Japan.

And plese don't let the same guy make the OT as the nier one if you don't want a lot of people to ignore his browser kiilling first page

Still early in the thread, but glad that someone docked points for it being a tv only game. Persona is one of the few games I'll force myself to play on tv, but 100 hour JRPG of all things is the worst thing you could make tv only.

Anywayz: Glad to see all the high scores! Can't wait to get the game tho I'll be late since I get it via free non prime shipping on amazon. XD

Would you find it agreeable if I docked Monster Hunter for being on an underpowered, cramped handheld as opposed to PC?

This game would be sooooo good on Switch. Huge shame it will never be released on it.

The Vita is probably a bit too weak for it, and they would probably want to release it on something more popular.

I'd say that if anything, the inevitable handheld version is bound for the Switch. (Unless Sony makes another handheld.)

NieR, Nioh, Horizon, now Persona. Holy shit, this year of PlayStation exclusives is 3 months old and it's a fucking blast.

It is pretty amazing the breadth of quality PS4 exclusives have. I was in a Gamestop last week and took a look at both walls (PS4 and XB1) and I was going... shit, when did the Xbox get so outnumbered on games like this? How do they plan to hit back?

I personally agree that you made the right call.

The Digital Trends review brings to light to of my main concerns (overstaying its welcome and forced activities)

My taste for long game has faded. I hope I'll be able to finish this.

I wonder how well it play via Remote Play.

I also agree that this will be tough to play on a TV.

Still holding at 94 even after my 1 hour lunch break, that's awesome.
I guess my 92 prediction was wrong
hopefully

In response to the Vita complaint, I've been playing remote play almost exclusively and it's fantastic. I generally dislike remote play because of lag and lower resolution, but this game is story heavy, turn-based, and not exactly breaking any graphics barriers. It's the perfect remote play game.

Because it shows a bias a bit.

You can't cherry pick.

Good thing I didn't.

It wasn't held back due to cherry picking, it was to avoid the unsavory reaction that has closed previous Review Threads.

In the end, it seems that worry wasn't warranted, and it's being treated more maturely than I thought it'd be - so thank you for that, everyone.

The past year has been pretty good for fans of Japanese video games:

Zelda Breath of the Wild: 97
Persona 5: 94
Nier: Automata: 89
Dark Souls 3: 89
Nioh: 88
Resident Evil 7: biohazard: 86
Yakuza 0: 85
The Last Guardian: 82
FFXV: 81
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE: 80
Tales of Berseria: 79

I feel like MGS5 was the warning shot. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this game a lot.

Edit: Fixed
Properly fixed. There are only three AAA games in this list.

It's good to see Japanese developers pick up some pretty good releases.
