Persona 5 Review Thread

"Rushed"

That shit took 10 years
Also, Persona is niche and really on single platform (PS3 is dead). Look at Japanese Persona vs FF sales, for example.

If it gets to 2 million in say a year that would be great performance and probably best selling Atlus game ever.

Game sounds fantastic but then it was always gonna be lets face it.

lmao at that Jimquisition review though... Switch begging in review form, is that seriously where we're at now?
Well it was Laura Kate Dale who reviewed it there and she's biased towards Nintendo platforms so not surprised really, but what I was surprised was port begging in a review article like really bruh, in fact any port begging in any article is low but in a review article that's the lowest like gee

I really don't care about MC averages, but I wasn't expecting a 100+ hour JRPG to ever reach 94. The near-universal praise for this game is surprising and encouraging. Can it top for P3 for me? I'm ready to find out!

And I've been on blackout for so long, I had no idea there was a Souls-ish multiplayer component! Very cool.

I don't understand the issue with the review. It's tone is mostly very positive. It is punctuated with an excellent score if you are blessed with the ability to understand that 8.5 on a 10 point scale is actually really high. The reviewer played over 100 hours of the game and had a lot of fun. What am I missing?

That it's not a 10/10 and Laura spread some rumors about Switch or something so she's not qualified to have an opinion, I guess. *shrug*

GTAV (97) and Last of Us Remastered (95) are rated higher.

All 3 are PS3 games funnily enough.
Should we read into the fact that the highest rated PS4 titles are PS3 remasters?

I mean Uncharted 4 and Forza Horizon 3 are the
highest rated original titles of the generation. And they only got there by being the exemplars of their genres.

Criticizing the precense of handheld game design in a home console game is absolutely valid lol, come on people, not every review has to be a perfect 10.

But you can beat Zelda in 20, hell, even 10 hours if you so wish. You're actually required to play at least around 90 hours to finish the main storyline in this.

Last warning:

Let's stop with spamming these images, this has nothing to do with Persona 5 reviews. Enough platform stanning garbage nonsense.

you can update the first page. you know just in case for the people who are late.

and about the review, i guess everyone praise the OST. I did listen for a couple and i feel the bass was clearly drawn, not played manually. That supper bummer for me :( I dont think it will affect majority of players tho. I can tolerate for other genre but this is acid jazz

I don't want 100h of gameplay... I want 100000h... We are about to make new friends... and live with them... 100h aren't enough...

Zelda isn't a JRPG and it doesn't take 100 hours to beat. Yes, there are technically 100+ hours of content, but you can comfortably beat the game (all main quests, plus a bunch of side quests and shrines) in 30-40 hours. The difference here is that Persona 5 requires a commitment of around 100 hours just to finish the game.

TheSixthAxis-10/10

Persona 5 stole my heart. It was impossible to believe that the best game of the already venerated series was still to come, and yet somehow everything works wonderfully. I’d rather the dialogue didn’t pad things out as much as it did, but I was captivated from beginning to end, while it successfully brought back mechanics long thought out-dated, and introduced smart changes for the better. An essential RPG for 2017 that you should not miss out on.

You seriously have no problems with a Switch port beg? That's like saying Witcher 3's biggest fault is that it's not on a portable system. Reads like a GameFAQS user review, lol.

Other than that the review was fine and 8.5 isn't bad.

So do you guys think this Persona game is going to be good?

I don't have faith in many things, but so far, Atlus hasn't let me down. I'm willing to make the leap in this case and assume yes, it is going to be good.

(Mind you, insanely positive raves from import players make it easier to believe too...)

you can beat it in 10 hours if you skip everything and go straight to ganon i guess
Games with huge development and marketing budgets. Persona 5 may be cool and all, but it's not a AAA game.

isnt it more or less atlus pouring in all their resources?

also id prefer a good game with good scores rather than an AAA game that sucks balls

Resident Evil 7, Yakuza 0, Halo Wars 2, NiOh, Breath of the Wild. Sweet Jesus, so many games I've loved in such close proximity. Persona 5 looks like it's going to be added to that list.

I've read Gamefaqs user reviews that were far better than many professional review sites.

Same. Atlus is one of the very last few developers who have never disappointed me with a game. Enjoyed every single one that I've played and this looks like one of their best ever.

Just finished catching up to the thread. That criticism about not being portable is one of the strangest I've ever heard lol

More on topic though, soooo excited. Pleeeeeeeeeease make turn-based RPGs cool again.

I don't know if I can stand again the emptiness this bunch leaved in my heart once I finished P4G... so 100h aren't enough...

GET IT! I also ordered the PS3 version myself, the PS3 was the lead platform anyway and if you're fine with 720p then there is nothing to fear.

Oh I would be more than fine with the PS3 version, but I am not sure if I be active enough to get out my PS3 that I felt I was pretty much mostly done with and try to get through this long (turn based) RPG on the TV. I know that might sound weird, but I pretty much moved towards PC/portable (including playing WiiU exclusively on gamepad), so eh.

I just started Automata on Sunday, and as much as I adore that game so far and it's predecessor, Persona is my favorite game series of all time. Really hope I can wrap that game up before Tuesday, but it's not gonna happen. Sad to shelve it until I beat this game, but holy hell I CANNOT WAIT.

Auto quote because some of you guys seriously seem to not want to notice the rest of the written review.

To be fair (and accurate), it is Laura's only MAJOR complaint. She does have a few other minor complaints throughout the review, if you read it.

It honestly feels like you just focused on the last three paragraphs of the review.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Any notable reviews we're still waiting on? I think Easy Allies will have theirs up by Friday?

Can't wait to get the Take Your Heart edition. It's gonna look so good next to my Odin Sphere Leifthrasir collectors edition (Atlus killing the CE game)

With the way she worded it? No, not really.

well she can play mario x rabbids rpg i guess?
Yeah, I hope it puts to rest all the GAF comments that turn-based is outdated and every JRPG should be an Action-RPG.

after FFXV i hope ARPGs go and die

If persona doesnt sell remarkably well, its going to give them the opposite impression.
rushed 81 mc game sells 6m and possibly more
fantastic 94 mc game drags it feet to 2mn?

we need to keep in mind p5 wont have the advantage of being the lone good game on a console like it was with golden

On the other hand P5 took less time to make then FF and therefore cost a lot less (almost certainly). There are many factors at play though like you're getting at
