It reinforces the perception that he has no idea what's going on. "There must be a good idea in there somewhere."

This dude said he would abolish Medicare, which as Joe said, is "one of the more successful government programs."

You're thinking about this too logically. The average viewer isn't going to be dissecting the ad like that. It paints him as an outsider who represents a departure from establishment politics. For what it is, I think the ad was well done. Do I agree with the content of the ad? Of course not!

You know, it's ok to look at things objectively and give credit where credit is due without changing your views. Don't worry, nobody's gonna think you support Carson if you say something nice about the ad.

Before long, Black Lies Matter will join forces with ISIS to being down our legal constituted republic. You heard it first here.

That's Fox News' token angry black cop.

Rick Santelli and Jim Cramer will be there too. Which should be delightful.

It would be so awesome if he brought props. XD

And I only just now realized how much he looks like Louis C. K. :X

Edit: I would have titled Ben Carson's pic with "Doctor Whaaa?" And that music is awful, very low energy, you need something high energy like this or this.

If the Democrats lost the presidency, it's a near certainty that the party wouldn't regain control of the Senate or the House, where Republicans already enjoy comfortable margins. Republicans could control in excess of half the governorships and state legislatures in 2017.

And Republican appointees are a majority on the Supreme Court, which after some liberal-leaning decisions on the Affordable Care Act and gay marriage, will likely tilt conservative again.

Such a scenario would make Republicans even more powerful than when they held all the levers of power from 2003 until 2007: Then, they didn't control as much on the state level, and in Congress there still were moderate to liberal party lawmakers, such as Arlen Specter and Lincoln Chafee, who often voted with Democrats. (Both subsequently became Democrats.)

The Democrats, who consider themselves the governing party, would be in their weakest position since the 1920s.

==

The consequences of a loss would be even more cataclysmic for the Republicans, threatening a party split. It would be the sixth of the past seven elections in which Republicans have lost the popular vote. That has never happened before.

There are bitter schisms within the party. Ryan is likely to replace John Boehner this week as House speaker, but there's already betting on how long his honeymoon with rival factions within the party will last. That, along with a divisive presidential contest, foreshadows a blood bath if the party loses next year.

If an establishment Republican -- Jeb Bush, John Kasich or Marco Rubio -- were to win the nomination and lose the election, the right wing would explode. It's an article of faith among the movement right that the establishment needs to be decimated before the party can rebuild. A defeat with an establishment candidate would ignite those passions.

If one of the outsider candidates -- Donald Trump, Ben Carson or Cruz -- led the ticket and was routed by a Democrat, the establishment would contemplate ways to diminish the role of those they consider the "nuts" in the party.

This is actually kind of a big deal. Ryan needs 218 votes in the House. Today he got 200 votes among the GOP caucus. That means almost no support from the Freedom Caucus on the internal vote. Not a confidence builder.

I will crack up if the Freedom Caucus manages to sink a second nominee, but on the actual floor vote. Shit would be GLORIOUS. I hope the Dems all vote for Pelosi and let the House GOP burn.

I know the high ranking Dems have said they support a Ryan speakership, but what does that mean in terms of actual voting? Do they vote no initially to see if the Repubs fail or do they just vote yes?

Freedom nuts were actually pissed off at the debt ceiling deal...pretty sure that's where the protest is coming from despite Boehner being the one responsible for it. Guilt by association.

so a Jeb Superpac setting up a @ismarcoworking twitter account

gloves coming off part 2 or nah?

Oh yes, he can't afford to have a bad showing tonight. This is quite literally going to be the last chance he has before Rubio steals all his donors, unless Rubio crashes and burns first.

If Carson somehow comes out of this in the lead...ugh.

My guess is he keeps playing the folksy, laid-back role and eventually the "Oh, woe is me--these gentlemen are ganging up on me because of my religion!" card.

Jeb leave my water boy alone! In all seriousness though, I got my diet soda ready.

Also, local politics time! Howard Dean backs (yes, that Howard Dean) Charlie Baker's hydropower bill;
http://www.masslive.com/politics/index.ssf/2015/10/former_vt_gov_howard_dean_back.html

Baker's bill would require utilities to solicit long-term contracts for hydroelectric power. So rather than buying electricity daily, the utility could sign a contract with a supplier for several months. The legislation would authorize utilities in Massachusetts to work with utilities in Connecticut and Rhode Island to buy power together. The goal would be to allow Massachusetts utilities to get better rates on hydroelectric power by buying in bulk.

I like Charlie enough. So far. Hope it works out.

Why ugh? Carson willing the primary would be the best thing for the Dems.

It would be a slaughter. And the GOP can't even argue it's the establishment's fault.

Carson probably has the least chance of everyone not named Rand to win in a GE.

I will never jump on board this train until I see his favorables drop. It still hasn't happened, and he has said the craziest things out there.

In a general election, he'll only move toward the center to attract more voters.

I don't think the Dems will ever vote for a GOP Speaker. "We support Paul Ryan for Speaker" just means they don't hate him (or, you know, that they're deliberately trolling Paul Ryan by telling the far right they don't hate him). They'll vote for Pelosi like always.

Ugh because Carson's numbers seem inflated. The fear is that he will deflate right before or during the primary, paving the way for Rubio or Jeb. We need Trump to solidify. I'm hoping Carson is just the flavor, but his slow ascent scares me.

Also, Jeb people are hoping against hope that Carson takes down Trump, and the fight gets ugly and that voters will see them as charlatans.
