I was just about to post this. I really expect to hear about some defections from the Trump camp coming up soon. Someone like Bannon doesn't care, but does someone who sees themselves as having a future with the party want to go down with this ship?
With bannin being there I assume he knows the campaign is done and he's using this opportunity to play to the base and "punish" the GOP for not supporting.

Someone pointed out that all this leakiness is a symptom of a campaign in disarray. Like people working for a business they know is going under soon, they just don't give a damn at this point.
There's gonna be so many scenes in the eventual Trump movie/Netflix series that people won't believe actually happened.

What can they do though? The GOP leadership is an asymmetrical situation where they are constrained by a need to preserve the party. Trump can burn the Republican party to the ground and then go open a casino in December. They're in a firefight with a pyromaniac.

This is another important part. Trump is being egged on by people who actively want to weaken 'mainstream' Republicans. Blocking him at the convention would have been 10x better than the situation they're in now.
