I've seen quite a lot of "liberals" who scream at the top of their lungs that social issues are a scam just to distract us from the "real" issues.
Which I think is a stupid opinion to have. Who cares about the "real" issues if everyone is happy...
But everybody isn't happy. That's a very privileged thing to say.
American society is incredibly divided by class, and the working class hasn't won any victories since the 60s. If America were to be ruled by a racially diverse elite instead of an all-white elite, we'd still see exploitation, disempowerment, and oppression.
Social issues aren't a distraction, but the attitude of the post-Reagan "New Left" is to
only focus on these issues, and let the poor fend for themselves.
Notice that I said 'potential'. Sometimes you need a catalyst for that potential to be realized. I believe one such catalyst would be for the far left to actually be in a position of power; imagine the far left being in control of the Judicial branch in this century. It's not inconceivable that emergent cases of segregation and discrimination based on ideological purity would be the result of some totalitarian rulings coming from the supreme court.
Obviously, the far left is in no such position at the moment so the aforementioned methodology would have no basis for emerging at this point. However, their current views are not far off the mark.
What is the far left? Which groups are you talking about? Why would you ever believe that people who criticize Clinton
for being too right-wing would clamor for another round of Jim Crow?
