Lol. Walrus guy at 0:05: "Fuck it, I've had enough of that shit."

Just for reference: If they're sitting at their assigned seats, the guy trolling Farage is Raffaele Fitto (Italian center right politician) and moustache man is Roger Helmer, who is actually a UKIPer, so my reading of his reaction might not be entirely accurate.

Getting rid of the filibuster is a dangerous game for the GOP.

Their ace in the hole for denying Trump's ridiculous policy proposals was that the Democrats could kill it and then they could blame the Democrats, while never having to deal with Trump's nonsense.

nuking the filibuster.

Good. It was inevitable it would get nuked anyway.

Keep in mind that as soon as the GOP nukes the filibuster:

- McConnell suddenly has to worry about what shit he puts up to a vote rather than being able to bank on Democratic obstruction.

- GOP has to deal with the inevitable headline "GOP goes nuclear"

- Democrats don't have to worry about their obstruction being blamed on anything and can go hog wild voting against everything.

- When Democrats take control of Congress and POTUS, it will be much easier for them to pass things without worrying about GOP obstruction.

You can only nuke the Scotus pick filibuster, but it would be far more interesting if Trump pushes for the full deal and McConnel is forced to comply because he is a little bitch. Paul Ryan could finally pass his dream social security and medicare killing bill so he would totally be for it

Thats an interesting approach to it. My first reaction is "we are screwed" if they do it.

" I'll just get rid of the power of Wake up DP, then the democrats can't stop us"

" UH.... we wake up DP all the time, duuuude"

It's mostly the third one.

Keep in mind also that the filibuster is tied to a LOT of power in the Senate.

Any senator from anywhere can grind legislation to a halt by calling for cloture on a vote, and they don't even need to do so publicly. This kills everything but loverwhelmingly popular legislation stone dead, or forces radical bills out of the house to compromise.

Remove that, and suddenly senators don't have much more power than your run of the mill congressional rep. Everything passes by 51% of the votes regardless.

There are a lot of voices on both sides of the aisle reluctant to Nerf the power of a Senate office that way.

McConnell knows that if the filibuster is gone Ryan destroys entitlements and they are in for a very bad midterm.

At this point let them do it. The AARP will have ads running 24/7 to vote all their asses out. The dems won't have a supermajority likely for decades anyway so it's pointless to keep playing this game where even if we win 2020 we cant accomplish anything

You guys saying "wish Obama had balls like this" should pay a little more attention to the confirmation process and understand that Garland was not even allowed to have a hearing by the Republican Senate. There was no vote and no Democratic majority for there to be a filibuster to nuke.

Also the Dems DID nuke the filibuster for executive appointments except for this and look how much fun that is right now.

I'm fine with it going to. Minority party can still deny unanimous consent.

Majorities should be able to pass things. They'res a tie braker for a 50 vote with the VP in the constitution for a reason (laws should be able to be passed by 50+1). If they want to have a filibuster put it in a constitutional amendment like the treaty clause and impeachment.

I think the filibuster is clearly unconstitutional. The senate setting its own rules doesn't mean that it can literally (beside quorum) can have fewer than 50 deny the majority the ability to do work

Without the media losing their minds over Ebola, we win at least three more Senate seats in 2014 (Alaska, Colorado, and NC) and maybe a fourth extra seat as well.

And if we had won four more, they would have been able to confirm a Supreme Court justice.

So the Ebola panic deserves a lot of the blame for what has happened.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former Vice President Joe Biden endorses former Labor Secretary Tom Perez to head the Democratic National Committee.

Let's see how much weight he still has.

The GOP will be rewarded by the voters for nuking the filibuster.

They will see it as an "adult" taking action against a crying child.

Whereas when the GOP obstructed, the public saw it as heroes fighting for democracy.

Red America is all in on fascism.

If we want to play this game, Daschle getting a few more votes in 2004 means we have a much better ACA without the good shit that got thrown out.
