Going to be fun to see all these people saying "WOW LET'S DO THIS, THIS BILL IS AWESOMMMMMEEEE" react when the CBO report comes out with tens of millions without healthcare, with 10+ million of them being before the end of 2017.

I look at that map and the first thing that comes to mind is, "Worries about being primaried." Nearly every state who gains is a solid republican state.

Graham-Cassidy seems like an absolute disaster, I can't believe they're actually doing this (though I can), and I 100% think it's happening now.

Um, unless you're a Republican house member from CA or NY.

A) Didn't Ducey back the repeal efforts back in July too. I feel I recall McCain voting over/against him

B) Er lots of Swing and Red States lose out as well. This screams "shoot self in the foot"

It’s objectively worse than the failed Senate bill and violates regular order, but McCain will put it over the edge because his governor told him to.

Ya'll haven't even let the news cycle judge this bill and you're calling it passed.

Let's wait for a week or two of crushing reports and terrible press, k? This is literally a direct repeat of late June, where everyone was jumping on board, and then WOOPS turns out this bill kills everyone, we never actually supported the bill, we need to go back and redo it.

Agreed in that respect. I just find the focus on the red states absolutely crazy.

Is that increase in funding because of their current decisions about health care?

Yup.

@MEPFuller
So, uh, I'm getting the sense that they may be closer on this Graham-Cassidy bill than basically anyone thinks...

Though the Byrd issues are going to be insane, and I don't know what happens with those.

It's comically absurd.

Michigan is going to lose over 3 billion dollars. They can't afford that to happen.

I just counted--only 15 states actually benefit.

35 states lose hundreds of millions of dollars.

And stupidly, swing states are generally fucked by this. I appreciate an electoral advantage, but I’d rather not have one because people’s lives are on the line.

Giving up just helps the GOP do what they do.

They have the votes with McCain. They were going to pass it in July, Pence was in the daggum building, were shocked that McCain voted no. If (when) he flips, it's over, there's nothing that can be done except maybe hope that the HFC is as stupid as they normally are and let perfect (in their minds) be the enemy of good (in standard Republican minds).

Doesn't it make sense those states benefit? At first glance, it seems like most benefited were states that didn't accept the medicaid expansion.

Good luck blaming Obama for the 20% spike in premiums.

What the hell kind of attitude is this? "There's nothing we can do, just roll over and die, it's hopeless"

NEVER

You're just sitting here moping in your own self pity, letting them get to you. Bad guys win when the good guys don't do anything. When they have no hope. Nothing to look forward to.

We aren't even sure McCain is the deciding vote! We don't even know McCain's vote! We have no CBO estimate. The media has barely covered this. We're going on nothing but rumors and hushed whispers. No vote has been scheduled.

Pick your chin up, put your pants on, and get ready for a fight.

Kinda weird to think the state of the American healthcare system lied in the hands of fucking Doug Ducey.

In millions of dollars, how much each state gains/loses in the Cassidy et al. health care bill:

This has "COMPLETE DISASTER" written all over it.

The degree to which this is targeted at punishing blue states and giving money to red states (who, uh, I thought were too proud to accept free money from the federal government?) is so disgustingly blatant I have a hard time finding words for it.

Sometimes you have to look reality in the face, you know. If they get McCain, they have the votes. They had the votes last time. If they get McCain, it is over. I have no control over what McCain does, he is not my senator.

You make it sound so easy, as if they haven't tried to force a vote several times now and had it fail.

BUT MCCAIN. HE'S THE LYNCH PIN. HE'S BEEN THE ONLY THING HOLDING THEM BACK FOR MONTHS.

Give some credit to the people actually fighting against this legislation, please. Because they've been putting in the work every time and so far have done a hell of a job.

Can I just say that I love you right now?

Seriously PoliGAF, we need to keep at it and fight this. No matter how hopeless it might seem or even actually be. This shit isn't over until it's actually over.

So does Lamar Alexander just throw away all the work he had been doing with Patty Murray on a bipartisan fix and vote for this instead?

Murkowski says she is "undecided."

They had 49 votes without McCain last time, expected McCain to be a yes, and had Mike Pence in the building to cast the tiebreaker. They didn't go to a roll call vote expecting the thing to actually fail, they thought they had it. McCain is, in fact, what held them back in July. He is, in fact, the lynch pin.

Nobody else is going to flip to a no. They would have done so in July when, for all they knew, their vote would have been the only one to stop it. They had that chance, they voted yes. They'll do it again.

Has this been set for a vote yet? I'm not sure I'm ready to panic until then. Too many other things to panic about at the moment.

No vote scheduled yet. They're deciding what to do this week.

Murkowski says she is "undecided."

She was undecided for a very long time last time as well. She seems to like to wait and get a feeling for the PR of the bill. Or she's waiting for the report.

They voted last time to kick the bill to the House. None of them actually wanted the bill. This time they're actually looking at a real bill, with real consequences, with nobody else there to "make it better"

At no point has the GOP actually wanted a bill to become law. The House hated their bill, the Senate hated their bill. They'll probably hate this bill too. They want to kick the can to whoever they can to never actually get a law in place, while still voting on a law.

Graham says they need to do it or get "full-blown single-payer socialism."

Ironically, his healthcare bill getting passed would probably be the catalyst to actually getting single-payer in this country.
