I'll respond to this rationally:

McCain serving as a soldier and yes, a POW, means that his loyalty to the USA is unquestionable. But it doesn't mean his decisions or his policies are defacto the right ones and should never be questioned. Going through hell doesn't make you infallible, it makes you unlucky, and a "hero".

Obama isn't questioning McCain's allegiance, or insulting any part of him that "POW" is a relevant response to. He's questioning his policy, and his judgment in that respect.

Or, in short, being a POW is not relevant experience for this job. It looks good on the resume though.

So how is it people are comfortable with the fact that Mccain has said he wouldn't invade Pakistan to get Osama and would ask them for permission when he says indeed he would follow him to the Gates of Hell. Does Bin Laden plan to leave Pakistan and go to Hell and Mccain will catch him there?

These questions work on both sides ya know.

Do you disagree?

Considering the current situation in Pakistan and the volatility of any such action I dont think I could support it. I wanna see Osama drawn and quartered but military Action in a Country like Pakistan could be disasterous

HOW DARE YOU QUESTION JOHN MCCAIN'S MILITARY SERVICE

POW POW POW POW

(That's what they said to Wes Clark when he said precisely the same thing you did, a FUCKING GENERAL)

A case McCain has to disprove to the base next week. All this talk about party unity of the dems, and no talk of the friction between the Bush people, evangelicals, the far right, and John McCain. Which is why you will see McCain pander to the base next week.
McCain has been pandering to the base for the past 2 years. You're late to the party.

Tell me where the fuck Barack said that we would invade Pakistan in some hopes of finding and killing Osama bin Laden?

What the fuck are you talking about?

"
In a strikingly bold speech about terrorism Wednesday, Democratic presidential candidate Illinois Sen. Barack Obama called not only for a withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, but a redeployment of troops into Afghanistan and even Pakistan — with or without the permission of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf."

emphasis mine.

"When I am president, we will wage the war that has to be won,"

"The first step must be to get off the wrong battlefield in Iraq and take the fight to the terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan."

I don't think the war on terrorism is ever going to be won. It's like trying to purge the internet of porn.

I certainly wouldn't support a full-scale invasion, but an insertion of Special Forces or some Predator drones? Sure. Pakistan's not going to do shit at that level of interference.

I turned to the Colmes radio show, which is on a liberal radio station, and I think the right-wing has sent a legion of callers to call in bashing Obama.

You really should have just posted exactly what he said right from the article:

"I understand that President Musharraf has his own challenges," Obama said, "but let me make this clear. There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. It was a terrible mistake to fail to act when we had a chance to take out an al Qaeda leadership meeting in 2005. If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will."

Nah they (the wingers) just listen to a lot of talk radio, they have phones and they are frightened.

Holy shit it is just a political speech for a presidential candidate, it is just talk of promises and nothing else. It has been done every single election after George Washington. It's not like a speech given during some famous world changing event (like the moon landing, the US entering World War II, the taring down of the Berlin wall, or 9/11) or speech given by someone held in hi-esteem by people right before they retire from what they love doing or die. Man I swear so overblown on here :lol

Woah man, sorry for FEELING.

McCain votes for bad things and nearly destroyed the American economy at the behest of a lobbyist.

Ted Kennedy votes the right way pretty much every time. He has never been in the pockets of lobbyists.

Exibit A: see what I meant about opinionated, objective things? According to this individual, Ted Kennedy is all holy and McCain is evil. Last I checked it was a Kennedy-McCain bill that limited lobbyists. And obviously they didn't hear the economic news that came out today, at least my stocks in genentech did!

God, you are so much worse than sd.

It's also sickening how you're putting undecided OT off AR's books through your posts and tag.

Exactly my point.

He's not proposing an invasion of Pakistan. If we have actionable intelligence of where bin Laden is...we'll act.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej8HpXcR6_s

If you think what he is saying is in any way comparable to what happened in Iraq, you're very very dense.

Actually no, I've never had that much difficulty trying to make out what he said.

Jesse's cadence and speech mannerisms tend to throw some ppl off. Personally I find him to be a mumbler at times.

They don't realize that we don't listen to Allan Colmes because he's the Washington Generals to Hannity's Harlem Globetrotters. :lol

Good, keep them occupied with that red herring.

Absolutely right. We have 2 months. So how do we do it? I am in NYC, hardly a battleground.

Something a professor told me a long time ago:

"Democrats always have the spectacles, protests, and flashiness. The Republicans are usually quiet and come out on election day."

Yeah I am in NYC too...

I am not sure how you do it... I think I can only help via internet, phone calls, etc...

I did recommend that mods/admin sticky a thread giving details on deadlines for registration and how to register.

Sure most of GAF knows how to do it... but it couldn't hurt.

Surreal. You could feel... something. This is the man we've been waiting for because he's made the election about us. Just surreal. I'll remember this night.

The quality of his voting record is fairly subjective. I find him monstrous.

I'm sure that would go over well with the rest of the international community, much like Iraq.

We are all supposed to pretend that America doesn't do covert ops or missle strikes in other countries in the past or anymore in the future though.

And he's absolutely right. Republican youth are far more organized and actually make it to the polls. The liberal youth, on the otherhand, will flock to Michael Moore films and talk tough at coffee shops, but won't actually show up to vote. As many others have pointed out, the youth really need to show up for Obama to have a shot. Otherwise, McCain will win.

no but it adds value jsut like obama claims his childhood in indonesia does. in addition lets look at the following after he got back. all of this copied from wikipedia so take it for what you will. It sounds like he knows his shit. Show me something similar from obama other than speeches.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McCain

his command of a squadron.
1991–1993 Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs
Helped by McCain's efforts, in 1995 the U.S. normalized diplomatic relations with Vietnam

Since January 1993, McCain has been Chairman of the International Republican Institute, an organization partly funded by the U.S. Government that supports the emergence of political democracy worldwide.[97]

In October 2005, McCain introduced the McCain Detainee Amendment to the Defense Appropriations bill for 2005, and the Senate voted 90–9 to support the amendment.[167] It prohibits inhumane treatment of prisoners, including prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, by confining military interrogations to the techniques in the U.S. Army Field Manual on Interrogation.

Meanwhile, McCain continued questioning the progress of the war in Iraq. In September 2005, he remarked upon Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Richard Myers' optimistic outlook on the war's progress: "Things have not gone as well as we had planned or expected, nor as we were told by you, General Myers."[172] In August 2006, he criticized the administration for continually understating the effectiveness of the insurgency: "We [have] not told the American people how tough and difficult this could be."[149] From the beginning, McCain strongly supported the Iraq troop surge of 2007.[173] The strategy's opponents labeled it "McCain's plan"[174]

Obama is not going into Pakistan and probably not even into Afghanistan. You don't win elections in a post-9/11 country by downplaying terrorism. Said what needed to be said so as not to look like a pussy to independents, who generally lean right anyway and want the impression of an ass kicking America.
