Realtime weapon switching in PS2 RE4???

Since Wario64 is banned, I'll post this for him:

Check out Official Movie 1:

Is that just clever editing, or did Leon actually switch weapons on the fly about halfway through the movie? If it's real, it would be the best addition to this "remake" so far IMO, since switching weapons through the inventory menu in the GC version always felt cumbersome to me.

Ha that looked weird (50th second). I can't tell if it was editing, but they had quick fadein/fadeout on other edits, and there was none there... Actually, there's another quick edit like that, so that one's probably edit too :\

Nice looking vid btw. Framerate looked perfectly smooth throughout, and just generally very impressive looking - particles, monster, etc.

That probably was my only complaint about the GC version... I kept wishing they had primary and secondary weapons, because I was always switching weapons when things got heated.

Com'on Capcom, re-release the GC version with the added bonuses later down the line.

Hard to tell. One moment he has the pistol then at the very moment he turns around he is simultaneously holding a shotgun. In this game in which animation is paramount I'd expect to see something other than one gun materializing in place of another...

...but then other scene transitions in the video had fade-ins and fade-outs. Curious.

Either way, the game is looking pretty damned intact, at least as far as one can tell viewing a 300k video stream.

It seems like you hear the chainsaw coming from the right side, he turns while switching weapons, and then blows the guy's head off.

The video is way too dark and low quality to be sure though. A definitive answer should be forthcoming.

Edit.

Notice how Leon was walking away from the tower building, but when he turns around with the shotgun he's closer up to it.

No realtime weapon switching. There are hordes a villages chasing him when he turns around and takes only a few steps back. When he turns back it's chainsaw man solo and Leon has the shotgun.

looks awesome!! Glad they improved the frame rate. This might be the best port ever.
I agree, that this is probably the best port from higher specced machine to lower specced machine. Viewtiful Joe is another contender actually.

True. That clearly shows it's an edit.

They're still there off the to left, but you can barely see them because the video quality is shit total. I think if they were adding this we would have heard about it by now though.

More or less. There are quite a few spots in the game similar to that village scene in the video where you just get absolutely mobbed by enemies, and there are others where you've got to contend with fewer numbers, but you've got a lot less room to manuver.

And of course, there's also other types of monsters that you have to contend with later on that can be pretty hairy. It really is a game that keeps you on your toes almost 100% of the time.

And as others have said, The Mercenaries is all the more insane.

They were RIGHT BEHIND HIM before he turned around. They should've been right in his face when he turned around. And like I said, when the edit happens, he's closer to the "tower" like building then he was before he turned around and walked even further away from it.

No he wasn't, it's the same spot and the same enemies. He's shooting his gun, runs out of ammo, spins around, then fires his shotgun. No edit that I can see.
It IS in a different spot of the village. Before he turns around he is going behind a house, and when he turns he is in front of the tower. Unless teleporting is a new addition, it's an edit.

Dude, you're going to shit yourself during most of the second half of this game then :lol

tbh although it's so intense, it's a very fair game. I doubt you'll ever feel like you're that overwhelmed

Hahah! Wait till the
mine cart sequence
.

He's gonna shit his pants.

lol, so true :D. Although I was thinking more of the
chase scene on The Island
. Fantastic moment and one of my favourite bits in the game, but it was damn intense

That's the great thing about RE4. You are made to feel like you are the star of a blockbuster action movie.

Never lets up. EVER.

Damn, all this talk is making me want to go out and buy it again so I can play through once more!

Hell, the
cabin sequence
should give him a good scare as well. That was one of the first parts of the game where I was really tightening up. They come from every freaking direction! :lol What a brilliant game.

Besides the early boss fights, the
cabin scene with Luis
was the first super intense part of the game for me.

Only thing missing is the lighting, I didn't see any light appear on Leon when he fired his weapon.

Oh and no, the scene switched. It would have been nice to have weapon switching on the fly.

the chainsaw guy went down on his left then was coming in from his right after that turn aroun switch. so unless there was 2 chainsaw guys or he's magic then prob just an edit.

I don't have an opinion either way on the video, but
there are actually two chainsaw guys that can appear in the village sequence. One shows up when you enter the house with the shotgun in it, and the other's waiting at the end of the long path by the tower
.

It's pretty much a non-stop game. It starts off and just builds up and builds up right to the end. Set pieces, end scenes, big battles etc...it just doesn't stop.

The
cabin
is a great moment in the game. It's just so much fun :D I really like the chapter where
you take Ashley through the village and the farm
. Far too intense the first time you play it :lol

For those who haven't played it before, I have a little easter egg for you. When you get to the lake for the first time, stand on the pier and shoot 9 bullets into the water :)

Man, I wish it was true. If there was one area that so badly needed fixing, it's the weapon switching. It totally took me out of the game every single time, just bad form. I had a similar complaint about MGS3 when discussing the camo and body patching up, actually. I want to be able to switch on the fly, man. The fly!

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Capcom USA, Inc. Unfortunately, I do not have
an answer to this question because the game specifics are not yet
finalized. Perhaps the game used for the video was a preliminary
version. Often times, games that are still in the creative process have
features utilized that won't be in the final game. There should be more
information on the game features available in the near future. We
appreciate your continued support of Capcom products!

Thank you,

Sounds definitive!

jesus it's like the game never been released before. How about using one of the 3 RE4 threads that were made recently?

I don't get it, are you upset because Res Evil 4 gets more attention with more threads? Isn't that a good thing, assuming you like Res Evil 4 of course? :)
I thought this possible change to gameplay was very important (to me), along with the fact that a new, interesting trailer was released showing off RE4 for PS2.

Looks like they increased the speed of the game but I could be wrong. Just seems like Leon and the enemies are moving faster than I remember.
