I guess I am not a huge comic fan, while I went for Deadpool on opening weekend I am going to wait for reviews on BvS. To be fair the only comic movie I saw in theaters last year was Avengers 2, all the rest I saw at home.

Even Civil War I'm meh about, a bit more interested in X-Men though. Man there are a lot of comic book movies now, huh.

I recall reading WB was internally projecting the OW to be somewhere between Age of Ultron and Avengers 1. IMO, this thing could be a Catwoman quality film and still open over $150M.

Man of Steel did really well on home video. It's not a movie that was disliked by most despite what people here seem to think.

Yeah I see it on tv every once in awhile as well. The internet (atleast hobbyist forums) always have a much higher standard and scale.

I think BvS's strongest point is that it has literally no competition and opens on easter weekend.

OK but what if I had left out the last paragraph, would you have taken me seriously

Same thing. Distinguishable contrast. Just harder to lampshade their flaws beyond "too powerful" or "too many dead parents," respectively

The thing is superman is always labeled too powerful yet he's not the big bad of his own team. He has flaws and weaknesses and he's most certainly not a boyscout that thinks in black and white.

Woah hold on not I just saw someone say man of steels action was bad. What the hell did I just read.

People seem to forget the Nolan movies weren't in 3D, so that is less money right? Unless in other countries you pay the same price for a 3D movie as the normal version. How much would that 160m for TDKR be if it were in 3D?

I think it's an internet thing
By most metrics, this is probably the 2nd most anticipated film of the year behind Rogue One.

And EVERYTHING around this movie generates conversation (good or bad), the article in the OP even notes that social engagement spiked this week with talks of the r-Rated version

idk. I think Civil War might have BvS beat.

I'm going with 180 OW and if it's good then I could see it doing somewhere between TDK and Avengers by the end of its run. It has the potential to topple Avengers.

That wouldn't stop anyone from seeing BvS though, lol. What would even be the point of that?
I just picture Marvel in their offices waiting for the 25th like:

I'm not saying it would stop people from seeing BvS. I'm saying it would be a baller move to get everyone talking about Civil War during BvS's opening weekend.

It's hard to compare since they are doing diff things, but take for example

The Turkish Airlines commercials for BvS bested the SuperBowl commercial for Civil War (Youtube views)... and that actually showed footage from the movie.

Swamp Thing was rumored to be part of the Justice League Dark movie. Animal Man is a stretch. I don't even know how you would sell that, the two runs I've read wouldn't work well in a blockbuster movie.

Hell of a lot easier to make an Animal Man movie than a Cyborg movie...

This is gonna do numbers

Dont think it looks great but def seeing it.

The batman portion looks like one of, if not the best, comic book stuff in a while but the rest looks in line with the usual dull superhero stuff we've seen all the time. Forget opinions, even the marketing seems so divisive. Hoping it's a good time at theaters since we're all basically gonna watch it

and Ben Affleck started trending on pornhub.

Hmm. That might work if BvS is bad to mediocre but BvS has pretty much slaughtered Civil War in activity whenever the two get brought up close to each other. While I have no doubt CW will be amazing it just doesn't quite have that "event" feel going for it.

But that could be just because the marketing hasn't really kicked in yet. I doubt Marvel would want to throw out Spider while the hype is high for BvS. That just isn't smart. You do that when it's calm so everyone pays attention to it and you get the most buzz.

really depends on what there is more hype for. MCU Spider-man or Batman v Superman which honestly I could see going either way but hell look at my avatar, I'm biased

I think BvS, first time we see these two on the big screen together, also DC going for the shared universe, a new Batman which from what we hear and see seems to be the best thus far etc. And we just had a Spiderman movie people didn't seem to like (I actually liked it) and I could see people getting kinda sick of him with another reboot (not the fans, but a portion of the GA). And we haven't seen anything from him so there is that.

That being said, I do think people are more positive about the new Spiderman. BvS just seems so divisive already, just imagine when the movie is released.

you're probably right that there's more hype for BvS than MCU spider-man but I think the general audience is more in the know about Marvel and character rights and all that stuff than people give them credit for. People know Spider-man being able to mix with Cap and Tony is a big deal

I'm not sure if the general public knows about Spidey being in CW. Its marketing has been pretty lackluster imo, which is a shame because it's the kind of movie Marvel should have made since the beginning.

Theres a couple of sites that have actually took samples

But you never really know

Anecdotally, every movie I've seen since the fall, from The Revenant to The Witch to Deadpool, has had the Civil War trailer in front of it.

I'm probably going to wrong here and I know most won't agree with me. But I personally think it's going to have a killer opening weekend but have a relatively big drop off the following week. I know I'm probably wrong but that's just what I think.

I think you'd be surprised how little people know about the Spiderman rights.

I've seen plenty of people thinking that Deadpool was part of the MCU. People outside of sites like these aren't really that clued into this stuff at all.

Batman and Superman are best when it's colorful optimistic All-Star boy scout vs. gruff super-serious Miller antihero. We need a movie from both of their perspectives, deconstructing them a bit from each side but still making us appreciate the other's traits in contrast.

This has never been true.

That's probably likely if it's about as good as Man of Steel.

I'm really hoping that's not the case though.

I'm 99% certain a new civil war trailer will be attached to BvS, and a new squad trailer with Civil War.

I doubt it. No matter what people will say, BvS is direct competition for Marvel. No doubt a lot of butts will already be there for BvS alone, but a CW trailer would definitely drive a few more butts to the theater. I give the trailer a 50/50 shot at showing up.

Trailers don't work like that anymore. They get uploaded almost immediately on Youtube after they get put up in theaters.
