[Rumor/Grain of Salt] Silent Hill 1 & 3 remakes by Bloober Team in development

Bloober Team is seemingly already working on Silent Hill 1 and 3 remakes, as the insider and a notable fan theory suggested. The studio is confirmed to be working on multiple unannounced projects.

As claimed by the insider @Planeta_Play_ on Twitter, Silent Hill 3 is the studio’s upcoming codenamed Project H. It follows the style of the Silent Hill 2 remake, but it will allegedly greatly focus on survival horror instead of a more solid narrative.

Konami has apparently noticed the highly positive player and sales reception of Silent Hill 2 Remake and is likely taking full advantage of it. Regardless, droves of gamers have also demanded those Silent Hill 1 and 3 remakes anyway.

If it wasn't for the controls, SH1 would hold up incredibly well. I recently replayed big chunks of it. It's a game where the camera angles are much more important than in the sequels and the low poly aesthetics gives it a good surreal feel. Frankly wouldn't wanna see it with the same style as SH2 Remake. I'd prefer a remaster with analogue controls and the old graphics polished up a bit in resolution, but no full remake.

I agree. It's better than nothing and it's not bad by any means, but ultimately the SH2 remake disappointed because it didn't have the camera angles and art punch in general. It was just a gorgeous third person game with janky combat. I don't want to come down too hard on it. I'm not even mad at my full priced purchase. It's just sad in a way because now it feels like we for sure will never get a properly reimagined Silent Hill. I don't think Blooper Team have the schizo chops for it. It requires a lot of risk, and SH2 remake had zero risk. It's such a hard sell in the AA-AAA space because of how expensive things are. "Yeah we have to make this part suck for about half the players on purpose and we have to make these other parts completely confusing to about 75% of players." Doesn't go over well in pitch meetings with the finanical normies.

All that said, I'm still buying the other remakes they make. I just had to get that out.

The biggest problem with SH is that the old versions aren't officially available in a good way. I enjoy something like SH2 or RE2make as their own entity, new interpretations with different strengths. But they in no way replace the original games, because they are too liberal with changing them from the ground up. You literally haven't played SH2 or RE2-RE4 if you only played the remakes, just like you didn't watch the original King Kong if you only saw the Peter Jackson version. No, I don't wanna mod some torrent on PC to get the old experience (even if the preservation efforts by the fans is appreciated). I want the Metal Gear or Persona treatment, where the old versions are easily available in HD in all modern stores if you don't like the direction of the remakes - which is ironic, because these remasters are much closer to their source material than SH2.

Konami has been taking safe bets on everything due to negative public image, so I can easily believe that this would be their next move considering the reception of 2 Remake.

I'll start being more skeptical once people start 'leaking' deeper cuts of something like a new Vandal Hearts or Silent Scope.

I've been saying I would prefer a straight port of the PS2 games with options for resolution. I very rarely get into emulated sessions. Just feels like it's not worth putting hours into. I do prefer emulated SH2 to the remake, and I would pay just to have it stapled to my Steam account.

Bloober will do a serviceable job. Maybe they take that leap this time. SH2 was already a massive leap from their previous work. I just think the stuff they need to do is a hard sell to the publishers who want all the rough edges smoothed over. They would have to make it less accessible. I'm still shaking my head over the fact they played Callisto Protocol and thought man, this melee combat would be perfect for Silent Hill. No third person camera, fix the melee and much stronger guns with much less ammo.

I'm definitely in, had big doubts about SH2 Remake but ended up loving it (minus how Maria and Angela look - the new models are still hard to accept ;)). They should do the first game next.

imagine a bigger more expanded silent hill, imagine kaufman and lisa, imagine the puppet doctors and dahlia and the cat in the locker

I would say combine both stories into 1 game.
You start off from the perspective of Douglas, investigating Harry’s death and then he finds Heather, who will experience the complete story of SH1 through her dreams, while you explore Silent Hill as her.

So SH1 and SH3 stories will be intertwined. You can call it ‘Silent Hill’ and it saves me from having to buy 2 games. 😌

Will they rerelease the original games too?

About another remake, I would like more a new main entry. Ok, the remake itself:
-Don't sacrifice any of the surreal vibe like this time.
-Don't make it actiony or jumpscary this time, this is Silent Hill.
-Don't strech artificially the length anymore.
-For a already told story don't hire a consulting group or try to 'sanitize' any of the story. If it isn't possible, don't make a watered down shot by shot remake of the story at least.
-Give the radio a larger range and more density to the fog and the darkness.
- Keep the influence of Naughty Dog style games stay away as far as possible: pointless and repetitive gimmicks, tone, etc.
-Don't make 'that' theory of SH2R a fact with the new one too.
-Again, rerelease the original game and nicely for preservation, respect to the source material and give people a chance to play it legally.

A remake being like that and MAYBE I'm in. I think the SH2R remake is a good and entertaining (more what I expected of a Bloober Team game) but VERY bloated and safe game that miss important marks of the original and the Team Silent era. And seeing "playing this remake is like playing the original but 'updated' "...I very much disagree. And I replayed the first two games just before playing the remake. I LOVE the original 2 but it isn't even my favourite entry (it's the psx game).

My guess is that they will release them not too far apart from eachother like how resident evil 2 and 3 remakes were

Bloober should consider making team silent cancelled silent hill 5 concept. the one that got canned for homecoming. “fear in daylight”.
