After the ps5 showcase, what are your next gen purchase plans?

PS5 is day one, but I'm sure I'll get an Xbox at some point. I've always owned both - although this last cycle was the first time I kind of regretted doing so.

Because of MS's approach with games as of late, I feel like all of XSX's exclusives will hit PC one way or another. PS5, not so much. Maybe some, sure. But I feel like PS5 will be the one I immediately go for. Now the question is just when, because I don't think it'll be launch at all...

I just feel more comfortable with an ecosystem that is supported between generations. Don't want to be in the same scenario when the PS6 comes out and hope Sony doesn't forget about PS4 BC and have limited PS5 BC. I buy all games digitally and value having them available when I want to replay them or get that nostalgic kick.

PS5 reveal looks like typical launch line up (1-2 impressive tech showcses, lots of mediocre filler, no killer app). Will stick with PS4 til crossgen dies aka 1-2 years in. By that point better games will be waiting. Might build a PC as PS exclusive pool shrinking.

Aren't all the Xbox games going to be on PC? I know like 90% of what was shown yesterday will be on PC too, but with XBOX it seems closer to 100% LOL
Sure, but a lot of us don't want to game on a PC at all. Completely not interested for many reasons. Do you personally own a good gaming PC?

Both. Xbox day 1 because I want to play some One games that don't run well on One X Because they chased the Eye candy and not performance (Sekiro) and stuff in my immediate backlog.

PS5 day one of Dark Souls Or RE8 are launch titles. Probably not before Unless Bloodbourne gets a BC+Frame patch.

I'm heavily disappointed by the PS5 console design but I'll get both on launch day anyways (the XSX seems to be the superior design because I prefer simplicity, black colors to blend in with the rest of my devices).

Playstation 5. It's where my friends will be, and it's where the games I want to play will be.

I would get both, but currently I see no good reason to get the Series X. Any games it has that I'll want will be on PC.

Ps5 the games tht are in the works besides Fable don't impress me on Microsoft side. Sony solid presentation with alot of exclusives as well as multiplats tht looked good sealed the deal.

Love the design BTW, can't wait to put in my pre order asap.

XS is a sure thing at this moment in time, PS5 not so much.

Meh. I think they're all sure things. Sony, MS and Nintendo pretty much are known commodities when it comes to the type of exclusive libraries they build over a generation and the genres they focus the most on.

I suppose there are more unknowns for the hardware/graphics enthusiasts, and especially those among them that mostly play multiplats. But for anyone who buys mostly for exclusives, sticking with the platform(s) you enjoyed the past couple of generations is pretty much a sure thing/safe bet.

You know, I'm kind of in the same boat. I don't regret my XBOX One or XBOX One X purchase. I like options, but, PS4 has gotten the lions share of use. I will get the X (when my wife allows it) once there are enough games beyond multiplats to warrant the purchase.

Really no reason to get an Xbox when the games are available on PC. Also, Sony first party just decimates the MS studios.

Both, of course.

Yet another poor people thread. Let me guess; you only married one woman?

Lol. I'm pretty dang well off financially with the wife and I both making over $100k and not having kids sucking up money. Especially compared to the college and grad school days when I scrimped to own every console and portable. Thee problem is now I'm more time poor and just can't keep up everything I want to play on just PS4 and Switch. Ended up with a stupid backlog (though not compared to many of forums) last gen from buying more than I could find time to play and owning every platform.

Owning everything is a drop in the bucket of the budget, but just wasteful when I don't have the time to use it. Even more so since so few Xbox exclusives have appealed to me this gen and I long got over the silly FOMO of feeling like I needed to play every great game. So I'll stick with PS5 and Switch (and it's successor) next gen unless MS really puts out a ton of must play games for me. If they do, I'll either grab a Series X, upgrade my PC or see if Xcloud is good enough for me. But I doubt it as they've just long been focused on types of games I don't care much for (online games, service games, racing games etc.). I don't see them suddenly making a bunch of exclusive games akin to the Sony and Nintendo first party stuff that's a huge chunk of what I play, nor games like Witcher 3, RDR2 etc.

The unannounced Fable already impressed you? It must be pretty good

For me it's PS5 day one, hopefully with a game + 2 controllers + camera bundle (like I got for PS4).
It wasn't going to be that hard to convince me, but tbh I've rarely got hardware at launch so..
I genuinely dig the design, and it's got plenty of features I can't wait to try, like haptic feedback, 3D Audio and the like.
I was interested in pretty much every game shown yesterday, and I'm ready to see more (like BC!!!).

On the other hand, after owning an X1, the worst console I ever bought, it was going to be hard to sell me on a SeX.
Thankfully MS designed a bland featurless box, which won't fit in my TV cabinet.
It has no exclusive support, the same controller, the same OS. MS's refusing to drop the X1, pretending to care about it after years of middling support. They need to start investing in exclusives, like, yesterday for me to consider it at all this gen.

Staying PC-only for now.

Pretty much everything I'm personally interested in is available there, including the first next-gen games I plan to get (Project Athia, REVillage, Ghostwire Tokyo, Scorn and The Medium).

Will probably get PS5 at some point IF there are more worthwhile exclusives.

You might want to check out the size comparison thread for the PS5 if size is a concern of yours

I was thinking about taking the XSX but PS event last night change my mind and i don't know which one i'll take. I'm just waiting for the MS First-Party event of July to decide

XSX first for me for BC contents and third party. PS5 can wait till its own AAA exclusives, or Japanese third party exclusives that may not come to XSX.
I really don't like the design of PS5 though.. it seems gigantic - so I want the mid-cycle refresh (slim, smaller - and perhaps prettier)

I already did! My TV stand has two short but wide horizontal spaces, so the PS5 fits, as it's taller but slimmer, but the SeX doesn't, because it's fatter pretty much.

Besides, I'll check official measurements, because they seem off (the Fat PS3 looks much bigger than X1, while it's actually smaller).
Even the SeX was estimated as much more of a chungus than it actually is.

MS still haven't shown anything worth buying a new xbox for and I have zero faith in 343 being able to actually make a good game.

Still undecided on what to buy first since the exclusives are at least a year off. I have a One X so the graphical upgrades really have to be apparent for me to consider a Series X for multiplatform. Halo is dead to me now I haven't really liked any of the post Bungie games at all.

Good to hear. As someone who owns an OG Xbox One, I know trying to find a space for a large console can be a pain. Super excited to see both PS5 and XSX slim editions in a few years.

I'm curious af, as they both seem to be operating within pretty tight thermal limits this time.

And yeah, my OG X1 had to stand vertical, which I'm pretty sure is not recommended.
Funny how the coffee table I used for consoles would work better this gen than my new TV stand lol.

No question PS5 but I wont be buying in until there's several exclusive games I want that are available. Spiderman 2 and GTA5 isn't going to do it for me.

Not a very appealing lineup for either xsx or ps5 IMO so I'll stick to my PC which is superior to both by a significant margin.

Both as usual, probably grab the PS5 first as I expect it'll harder to find over an Xbox in the launch window. Unless Halo Infinite blows me away then I have to grab both.
