So, WHEN are you going to buy a 9th Gen console?

Will wait till there's six or seven AAA quality games on either that aren't on PC and both are half or less of their launch price. About 2024 I reckon I might get one or the other.

I'm in no hurry. Will buy Nintendo's next console before either. Infinitely more interesting prospect imo.

Well, it's little too early to say. I can certainly afford both of them on Day 1 - but there are few factors.

Xbox Series X - most likely Day 1 - only two things not known at this point is the actual pricing and exact launch date. I'm getting this console for BC and some of the games that I missed out in 4k 60fps HDR. (I hope). I've been wanting to get X1X for the same reason for awhile - but at this point, Series X may be the better choice for multiplatform games.

PS5 would be my main console as it's pretty much guaranteed to have more Japanese publisher support - that I tend to go for a lot of Japanese niche games - (unless MS does drastically well - but even the 360 days, they didn't do that well in Japan... so I'm keeping my hopes down). But at this point, I don't hear anything about what new games are coming out, for launch, nor how big of jump of resolution and framerates for BC games. I already have PS4 Pro, and so far it's handling games pretty adequate - so I think I may wait till the games are announced and BC performance enhancements first, as well as the pricing, design etc, before I decide to get it on Day 1. Literally, we just don't know much yet.

Not in the first year. I will cut my spending in entertainment to save some money for investing.

Surely I will buy games, particularly indie ones, but consoles are another matter. Too expensive in my country.

Will probably get one at launch (If possible), but not sure which yet. I will aim to get both eventually, but which I get first will probably depend on pricing and the launch-window lineup. Might lean towards Xbox as I only have a PS4 currently and its possible a bunch of the launch line-up will be cross-gen, but I am sitting here waiting to be wooed.

For me it depends on the new GPUs launching this year and how they compare and if the PS5 has a launch exclusive worth a purchase. Might just wait for a really good exclusive drops like God of War 2 or Spiderman 2 something.

Will wait for 2nd or 3rd price drop on PS5 slim/Pro ver. so the games pile up. Don't have much faith in Day 1 consoles either.

Day one either two PS5s or one of each depending on the difference in 3rd party games leaning towards two PS5s right now due to Xbox not having any only for Xbox series X games for at least a year or two

I usually get one about 6-12 months in and that has been Xbox since the original. Then when the "slims" come out I end up getting both XBox and PS.

It allows me to catch up on previous gen backlog, get systems on sale or reduced price, and have a good selection of available games.

XSX day one baby. PS5 if they do a pro and if they have must have exclusives.

I am salivating at the thought of MS game studios games though.

Probably Day 1.

Probably Series X (PS5 has a chance, though).

Probably going to regret it with how launch games are. 😋

I know I at least have two ongoing games I want to play, in Minecraft and Fortnite, some older ones I’m waiting on will likely be there, and the fun of brand new hardware should be a thrill.

That’s enough for me. I’m really hoping for some great launch games, though.

As long as they dont mess it up, ill be getting an XsX day one simply for the BC. 4 generations of games with higher framerates and resolution on one box. If youre a gamer, this is a no brainier. Its PC with closed hardware/OS.

PS5?
Not happy with their censorship even if its with games that I dont play or IPs I've moved on from due to their change in focus or whatever (eg DeviL May Cry 5).
Lack of BC.
Lack of support for their own 1st party exclusives this gen on the pro/enhancements (Bloodborne etc). Their treatment of the Vita.

Ill always be a Sony Pony at heart because of the memories on the PS1 and PS2, but im not a sucker. They pushed it with the PS3, but the closure of Studio Liverpool after the WipeOut game the released for Vita, when the vita was starving for games, only to have another team re-release that game and the PS3 Wipeout for the ps4...

Sony kept Creative Vault around since 08 with this being their only output, they closed the OG wipeout team studio only to then hand Studio Liverpools work over to Creative Vault Studios.

It was Sonys very own Bethedsa/Obsidian Studios New Vegas moment.

I'm gonna wait for a game I'm very confident I'll love.

I remember buying the PS3 at MGS4's launch and just being so utterly disappointed with the game. Then I bought a PS4 when Destiny came out and was totally disappointed again. Eventually other games made those systems worthwhile over time, but spending all that money to play a game that bums you out is just the worst.

So I want to hold out for a really strong title like a Bloodborne 2 or something along those lines.

Not until at least 2-3 years in. I've still got plenty of PS4 and Switch games to play.

If I buy a new console early then I just add to feeling like I have to buy games for the thing and I barely have enough time to play games as it is.

I'm going to get one console Day 1.

I wanted to get a PS5, but Sony so far is doing everything wrong and MS everything right.

But I cant ignore the exclusives either, I LOVE Sony's single player cinematic games.

Ultimately I'm going to wait for the games conferences. Also if one console is delayed there is a chance I'll get both. I'm thirsty for next gen lol.

Day one for XSX.

I need to see games for PS5. SSD is great but at the end of the day, i don't play SSD but games and Godfall didn't look interesting to me, but Halo Infinite and Microsoft Flight Simulator did.

PS5 day one, XSX when the price drops by 100$ (6 months +/-, I expect for an unofficial price drop here in Sonyland).

We all know we'll end up getting one of the new consoles down the line, so --aside from the usual question of which console you will get-- I'm interested in asking WHEN will you buy a next-gen console.

In my case, as of today I don't know when I'm getting a PS5 (honestly, I'm not hyped for it yet --even if I am mostly a PS gamer-- and Sony hasn't given me any reason to buy one yet). I guess I'll get one when Nihon Falcom starts releasing exclusive PS5 Legend of Heroes games? But I plan on getting an Xbox Series X for my birthday on April 2021 once the Final Fantasy VII Remake exclusivity deal drops off.

So, when are you going to buy a 9th Gen console?

PS: Yes, I'm aware that gamers who play mainly on PC are less likely to get a 9th Gen console. Pls, consider this post for those who will.

PS5 day one, Xsex when it is 50€ on flee market(same with OG + 360) so maybe around 2025-27

Don't get fooled by console warriors whom scream how PS5 is slow and bad, I can guarantee that when you turn on that PS5 and start to play = it will be great and glorious!

And when they do the "real reveal" for masses with games, design and controller = it is time to get hyped

At that moment specs wont matter. If you have enjoyed PS4 games, then there is no reason not to be enjoyed from PS5.

Same with Xsex of course, both will deliver current gen games on steroids + new stuff on top of it.

Well...my plan has been to the XSX day one - I wanted to try and keep this gen to one console but I do love Playstation, so I'll end up with then both. I could say screw it and get them both at launch, never done that before. Of course, I would like to see games so I know what my money is going towards. My XBOX is doing just find do I really need to replace it? I enjoy BC a lot and I love to be able to jump into old games with the upgrades. I really needed e3 to get me firmly planted on the hype train for 9th Gen. Sony and Microsoft will have more digital events, I hope, before launch.

I probably won't at all.
Completely got my gaming needs covered by my PC and I don't think there was a single exclusive in the last decade that I was more than remotely interested in...
And even if I was, my backlog is too long to even care about most new PC releases.

Meanwhile, SmartTV + PS4 cover the streaming & BluRay bases.

🤷‍♂️

I planned on day one releases..but with this market in shambles from Covid 19 ..im cautiously watching..im not blowing hundreds on consoles that dont even have appropriate software to push em. We keep hearing all these features and specs but guarantee well be playing last gen classics and mediocre launch titles.

I'll get a PS5 at some point, but want to see what they are doing for exclusives and backward compatibility.

Xbox, probably never, I can play all the games on PC.

Day 1 for one of them. The way its looking now, I'm leaning towards the Series X for Halo Infinite and (potentially Hellblade 2). But if the PS5 has amazing launch games, then I'll pick it up instead and play Halo on my One S. This time, launch and launch window games will really steer my purchase. But I'll prob buy the other within 6 months.

That being said, I have a really cheesy PS shirt I want to wear and the only appropriate place is a PS5 launch event, so I'll prob do PS5.

PLEASE BRING THE GAMES SONY! Don't just give us a First Party shooter (Resistance: FoM, Killzone SF) and multiplats. We want the goods!

XSX day one. Maybe, just maybe get PS5 four or five years later when it will have enough content to breeze through.

First I'm gonna wait and see. I won't be an early adopter, I think.. Although, if (hopefully when) Sony communicates 100% PS4 BC & enhanced PSVR support, I might be tempted to buy the PS5 through some sort of trade-in deal. I won't care about my PS4 pro, when everything is done better by PS5.

Due to the current pandemic, the Australian dollar has completely tanked and will probably stay low for awhile. I’m thinking after a couple of years, maybe 2022, i’ll get whichever console has the better exclusives. I hope Halo infinite doesn’t suck.

Still too early to say. I won't know until I see their stable of launch window games. With everything coming out year 1 likely being cross-gen, I don't feel the hurry.

And this may be the gen where I finally put myoney where my mouth is an buy a PC instead. Who knows?

Probably never. I bought a PS4 just for Bloodborne last gen. I wouldn't say I regret it, but I probably won't be doing that again. If Sony snags another From Software exclusive I'll just borrow someone else's PS5. Zero chance I'll ever buy an Xbox. None of the exclusives interest me, and if that ever changes I'll just play them on PC.

Until or unless I see a must-have exclusive experience on a 9th gen console, I think I'm going to wait. I'll probably wait at least a year. I have a PS4 Pro, and I figure most, if not all, games will release for it after 9th gen launches. Plus I have tons of games I haven't played yet for PS4, so I don't think I'll be bored anytime soon...

I might build a new PC before buying a 9th gen console.
