When I’m offline, can I play games I’ve downloaded from the games catalog offered in PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium/Deluxe?

Yes. However, when playing a downloaded game from the game catalog in PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium/Deluxe plans, you’ll need to connect to PSN every seven days to validate your PlayStation Plus membership and maintain your access to the game.

Please note, this step is only required for game catalog titles in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium/Deluxe plans. It does not apply to the monthly downloadable games available through PlayStation Plus Essential.

Sony is requiring its subscribers to login weekly to access PS Plus Extra as well as PS Premium games to play them.

Today is the first day of the newly revised PlayStation Plus subscription service after it launched in Hong Kong. Following its launch, Sony has released additional details regarding the service courtesy of the PlayStation Blog.

THIS MAY BE AN ISSUE FOR SOME

For the most part, this shouldn’t be a problem for subscribers. After all, if you’re subscribing to PS Plus, the chances are that you will have an online connection. However, not everything goes to plan, and people can and will go without the internet for more than seven days. So those people could potentially be an issue.

That being said, the requirement to login to PS Plus to access the games does make sense, at least from a Sony perspective. The reason being is that it will prevent players from downloading games, going offline, and playing the games permanently. Presumably, without an active PS Plus subscription.

PS NOW HAD A SIMILAR REQUIREMENT

It’s also worth keeping in mind that you can access the games offline, so long as it’s within the first seven days of your last login. PS Now had a similar requirement, however, that service required you to login every fourteen days and not seven days.

The PS Blog post clarified: “When playing a downloaded game from the game catalogue in PS Plus Extra and Premium plans, you’ll need to connect to PSN every seven days to validate your PS Plus membership and maintain your access to the game.

Please note, this step is only required for game catalogue titles in the PS Plus Extra and Premium,” continued the post. “It does not apply to the monthly downloadable games available through PS Plus Essential.

That was already known and it’s understandable since the games are not yours, they’re rented. Can you play gamepass games offline indefinitely? And Nintendo Online games?
Now open the gates for the fake outraged and the CONCERNED CITIZENS.
I think gamepass does this monthly basis on PC. It would have been better if it was monthly and not weekly.

In for the justification posts.
Yes, I’m very worried about having to log in once a week to access an ONLINE SERVICE.

We mad? Cause we was mad at Xbox the other week for a monthly check in ;)

That being said, this is honestly a non issue, who subs to an online service and doesn't have the internet?

As long as you have your console set to home and use the internet weekly you'll be fine.

& If you game share, then it's just the consequences off being cheap or having friends (whichever makes you feel better) :p

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
So, it used to be 14 days, and now it's 7... I guess if this affects you then you'll need to seriously re-evaluate paying for the premium tier of an online gaming service. Or switch services...

Do you not have to ever log-in to play games you downloaded off GamePass?
Only once every 30 days

No we were mad because we couldn’t play bought Xbox games while the server was down.

I see. How many people subscribed to PS+ or GamePass are only able to log in every 30 days? These are home consoles.

The search for reasons to be outraged are getting pretty pathetic now.

I might be getting my wires crossed here but weren’t people mad about not being able to play games they purchased because XBL went down? That’s two very different issues.

They didn't have their console set as their home console, PS4/PS5 does the same thing if it's not set as your primary PS4/PS5 (the games have a lock icon on them)

The people that couldn't play, were people that don't have their console set as home, we got news coverings off it and loads off misinformation even from the likes of MVG, claiming some DRM nonsense.

It got massively blown out of proportion (like everything now days)

You should be mad when you're being forced to check in for games you actually own rather than games you're digitally renting.

But you do you of course.
Playstation does the same thing on your non-primary console.

You can't download games to a 2nd machine w/o expecting online DRM... that's across any system.. Steam, Xbox, Playstation..

MS/Sony both have the same method for 1 of your systems to work offline, but you can't feasibly do that on more than 1 system without inviting exploits.

5 days, 7 days, 30 days. Is it really going to be different? Are people making a habit of downloading games off their online rental service and then unplugging the Internet for 30 days? Seriously?
I knew a guy that had shit internet (like, dialup speeds over cellular) and wanted to get into gaming. Downloaded Game Pass games on a friend's console and loaded them on his USB drive. Plugged in the USB drive and was presented with the "purchase" option on his Xbox. Signed in to his Game Pass account once and was able to play for a month. That way, he didn't burn up hundreds of gigabytes on his cell plan downloading games and was still able to play games offline.

But obviously, this was a massively fringe case. I think he finally mostly gave up because the whole thing just became so ungainly. And that was with a 30-day window...
