Sony's PS6 Portable Should Avoid Nintendo's Flawed Dock System.

And as for the 2 people using it at the same (time) fantasy ....realize the price of cloud gaming eventually has to include not only the cost of the game but the cost to use the hardware in the cloud. So even if the entire fantasy was 100% reality ...you're not going to save any money.

Yes.

No. The new ps portal needs very minimal power.

No. The "new ps portal" will be its controller (normal dualsense also an option).

Having separate module means Sony can sell the core processing module as a standalone device for so little of a price.

The "new ps portal" will have a slot at the back to mount the core processing module. Then you have a cloud streaming device that is also usable on its own.

I'm wondering the same thing, did PS6 and PS6 portable officially announced or is this just people's wishful thinking?
A very reliable chip leaker has said that a mobile SoC for PlayStation based on PS6's architecture is in development alongside the normal PS6 SoC, with both systems scheduled to hit the market in 2027.

What about we imagine a PS6 (Most powerful console) and PS6P (Most powerful handheld) that share the same library?

Scary idea if you hated Sony.

A proper handheld device requires a different approach to give you a decent experience, which includes a battery that last more than 25 minutes.

I want PS6 to be able to push boundaries in terms of technology. A portable device first PS6 will sacrifice one thing and that's performance in order to fit in the palm of your hand.

Think Steam Deck and think about how some of the more heavy games are not available (are not verified). One way of having your cake and eat it too is to have games that are cross-gen. Sure, you have to make two versions of the game which is not ideal, but we already have cross-gen games. And for every God of War Ragnarok (a decent game that didn't push the boundary in terms of scale or fidelity) we have a Spider-man 2 which does push at least the SSD to its limit for the fast movement.

I'm not sure what Sony wants to do next generation, but I think the whole industry has become smaller due to many factors so I think it is safe to assume Sony will at least attempt to reinvent themselves some how. Top tier graphics do fit a niche they need to cover, but unsure what else they can do push their brand forward and a PlayStation Switch does fit the trend chasing Sony has been doing for the past 5-10 years (Concord, Marathon, etc)

Wait, hold on.... the PS Portal currently exists...

And somehow, some people think a PS Portal 2 would be a standalone console complete with unique games and PS6 game ports?

Why?

Think of a PS Portal, then you attach the entire guts of a PS5 behind it. It would be as confortable as putting both your hands inside a meat grinder and turning it on. Amazing.

Nope. The "new ps portal" will simply be thinner and will have slot/pocket or latch at the back to dock the core processing module of the PS6 portable. That's the idea.

So, when you want to use your tv to play your ps6 portable games, you just remove the core processing module and connect it to the tv. You "new ps portal" is your controller.

Since these are basically two devices now, Sony can sell them separately or in a package.

PS6 portable will have 15w soc whose power is between xss and ps5. PS5 is a 200w machine.u

Not only that but it would have to have 2 socs, one for the controller Shell with screen to work and another for the processing stuff while docked/undocked. Amazing.

Sony can sell the rumored 15w PS6 portable for $299. No screen, no battery.

Sony can make PS Portal 2 with a slot/pocket/latch at the back to attach the core processing (PS6 portable).

They can be sold separately (since they can function on their own), or sold in a package (with discount).

Sony should avoid all this nonsense altogether.
This.

I just don't see how a handheld is beneficial to them. They sell Playstation as "the most powerful console where all games are". A premium experience. A handheld would torpedo that.
Ok, so Sony do a handheld that is a down-specced SKU of the current Playstation, that developers have to target. Now they have created the same situation as Microsoft have with the Series S, and I remember you motherfuckers crying about it "holding back gaming". Ok, then. What if they make it its own dedicated device and not a down-specced version of the Playstation console? Now they have to support two different devices and Sony's first-party can't even properly support the PS5 alone (let alone the PSVR2, anyone remember that this exists?).

The best thing they could and can do is what they're already doing with the Portal. A device with which you can play remotely on your "premium" console. What Sony should do is to refine, streamline and make the Portal experience even better.

The current Portal weighs 520g on its own. Add in the system plus battery and you could be talking about 1 KG+. You pay for modularity with weight and bulk – the two factors that determine the comfort and portability of a handheld.

All Sony needs to do is take the PS Portal, update it's hardware and add a 4 core, 12cu APU and make that the PS6 controller included in the box. Keep the spec low so the PS6 overall price would be bellow the PS5 Pro.

This would add a whole new experience to PS6 games by having two screens. The TV screen is clear of any UI clutter and the controller locally renders the map, inventory, chat, hub, etc.

When playing away from the TV, the controller switches to Stream Mode via Wi-Fi 7 (direct) or 5G.
Or
Local Render Mode for all PS4 and select PS5 games.

That's it, no reason to do two products (handheld and console) or a complicated design.

Sony barely supports the console they have now. They let the vita die on its ass and people here think they are somehow going to make a success of a handheld. They are notorious for piss poor support.
