Already seen this show before but I was interested in hearing the english VA's. Satisfied with Ganta and Shiro's VA's, and I'm really loving the VA for Makina. Yoh
(guy that got slashed by Makina)
sounded pretty solid as well. Really looking forward to hearing
Minatsuki
and
Karako
's VA's in the future. Will be rewatching for sure.

Edit: The toonami thread is killing me, Makina sure made an impression with GAF.

"I'm a G."

Edit2: I just had to post these quotes:

The tits on da warden.
Yo damn Warden.
They shrunk her boobs.
G Size titties!
I'm a g lolollol
niiiiiiiceeeee.
"I'm a G"
AW YEAH
G Tittays
"I'm a G"
Hahahaha this show is awesome.
"how big are your tities"
"I'm a size G"

I love GAF. So much.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
I don't really call the things I enjoy trash unless it's a "so bad it's good" kind of thing or it's something that is essentially porn.
LOTR defined an entire genre, with long lasting repercussions on literature as well as tangential fields that make heavy use of storytelling. There is no denying that it is a masterpiece.

This doesn't mean it wasn't boring as fuck most of the time.

In order to reconcile these two opinions, I've learned to judge things on two scales. One that is as objective (at least, as objective as I can manage), and another that is completely and totally subjective. For me, quality of a work has very little to do with how much I enjoy something.
If someone doesn't like that stuff, fine, but saying stuff like "only 9 year olds would find this cool" is uncalled for.
All shounen mags are targeted toward kids around 9 years old. Enjoying shounen, by definition, means enjoying stuff 9 year olds find cool. The difference, however, between DMW and One Piece is that One Piece contains a lot of elements that go far beyond its intended audience. DMW, however, really lacks those elements. It is a very basic exercise in appealing to childish notions of tragedy and maturity.

It's like Wolf Guy. Teenagers might think Wolf Guy is DEEP and MEANINGFUL, but it's really just trash.

So fucking true.
Although I do enjoy quality shows if the subject is sufficiently interesting.

Eh, I don't really look at things that way. If I enjoy something, it's good. If I don't, it isn't. I can usually see why something would be considered a masterpiece, but in the the end, the only thing that is relevant is what I like. We aren't here to justify our tastes to anyone; we just consume media that we find appealing.

In the end, it's just a semantics argument anyway. No matter how much we analyze or criticize something, it will never become something else.

Wolf Guy is seinen.

Wolf Guy is seinen.
I know, that's the point. Wolf Guy is an example of how to appeal to teenagers in the crudest of ways: Rape, violence, etc.
I can usually see why something would be considered a masterpiece, but in the the end, the only thing that is relevant is what I like.
So you agree that something can be "good", as in, most people would agree it's "good", without you enjoying it?

If that was true you wouldn't feel the need to defend DMW.

Wolf Guy is seinen.

Exactly.

Garzey's Wing is awful in terms of writing, acting, editing, art, animation, you name it but who here doesn't love the fuck out of the dubbed version?
Same with Dark Cat. same with Mad Bull 34. Same with Black Lion. same with a dozen other shows that sell for a dollar on ebay for a reason. but these shows offer entertainment of the highest order, and thats why we buy them and watch them.
I dont watch a show just because people rated it highly.

Huh, there's a panel tomorrow morning called "The Philosophy of Cute". Sadly I think the time conflicts with when I'm going to a meetup with my friends, otherwise I'd give it a quick look.

In a literal sense, I agree. However, what you mean isn't true.
I'm feeling grumpy today, 'kay? :(
It's okay, there are valid criticisms against him. Some of his productions are on the trashy side.

I can agree that something I don't find "good" can be considered "good" by other people, but in the end it's irrelevant. I'm not one to wrack my brain over why something I don't like is considered a masterpiece. I'm a simple guy that follows a simple metric; boring=bad, not boring=good. Yes, there are some rage exceptions like E7 or Umi no Misaki, but that's generally how I look at media/fiction. I'm much more interested in discussing why something I like is good rather than why something I don't like is good.

infinite stratos dub 1 "All My Classmates are Female"

i've never seen an episode of this before and i wish i'd have kept it that way. i can't even begin to imagine how someone could watch this shit without the ridiculously bad dub. i mean, even with the awful accents it's almost completely unbearable to watch this shitty collection of terrible anime tropes ranging from the abusive older sister, the snobby rich girl, the ditzy teacher, the lame and boring as fuck harem protagonist and the tsundere childhood friend.

fuck otaku forever for lapping this shit up in droves.

I warned you all about the dub. I warned you.

Doesn't sound like much of a discussion to me.

Suikoden Demon Whatever - No relation to the Konami RPG series, this OVA is both bad and boring, the worst combination. Really, don't bother watching this; it isn't any good. We learn so little about the characters that it's pretty hard to care much about them, the story isn't very good, and the action's not much better. Most of the OVA is really dull. The only slightly better points (which are NOT enough to make this worth the watch!) are the crossdressing guy, and the last fight, which was somewhat amusingly stupid. But yeah, don't bother.

Dark Cat - Some people compared this to Garzey's Wing? Eh... no, I don't think so. Well, maybe the voice acting was as bad, but the OVA itself isn't anywhere near Garzey's. This is just fairly generic bad almost-hentai stuff, nothing on Garzey's level of genius! Also, the sad ending's a downer. :(

That's not to say that this is all bad, though. That abysmal voice acting did often make this much more amusing than it was supposed to be, certainly, and the story at times did succeed at being so stupid that it was almost ridiculous. But overall... eh. Nothing great, apart from that voice acting.

Idol Fighter Su-Chi-Pai - This OVA didn't make much sense most of the time. Basically, this is a single episode that tells the stories of five separate characters, then has them meet up and fight a final battle against the main foe. Then, as the story begins, this ends and goes nowhere. Yeah, it's REALLY confusing. It basically functions as a sequence of scenes, each mostly featuring different characters, instead of as an actual plot of some kind. It's not terrible, like that Suikoden thing above, but it's not good either. This is clearly not a stand-alone story. Apparently it was made as a promo for a mahjong game. There is a mahjong tile seen at the end, but overall that's a fairly sketchy connection -- the fighting here is physical, not mahjong. Mahjong is barely even mentioned, in fact. Why is this the promo OVA for a mahjong game? It's pretty weird. And yeah, that series-of-scenes plot... gah.

Also, while most of the OVA is pretty silly stuff, there is this one part, when we first see the villain, where she seems to murder several people... that was fairly tonally dissonant from the rest of the episode. Or was that other girl actually not dead? They sure were trying to strongly imply that she was, though... but then after that scene, it goes to the silly-ish fight. Of course, they do defeat said evil villain in the end, so good does win, but that bit seemed a bit off-tone compared to most of this OVA.
Overall, it was kind of amusing at times, but way too confusing. This has issues.

Arcade Gamer Fubuki 1-2 - I've watched part of this before, but I forget how much. And yeah, this is pretty good stuff... it is pretty fanservicey, but it's all just lots of pantyshots and a few fairly censored bath scenes, nothing more. As for the plot, this is about a girl with a magic pair of Passion Panties that give her amazing arcade-gaming powers when they are exposed during a match. She then sets out to win the Japanese arcade gaming championship for various reasons. Interestingly, the arcade games seen in this series are real games, not made up. Most are from Sega; either the people who made this liked Sega, or they had some kind of deal or something...

Anyway, while at first she's the best, Fubuki then runs into a rival who also has her own pair of Passion Panties. There's also an evil organization, of course. The plot's quite ridiculous, but mostly entertaining. Some plot points seem to be forgotten, but oh well, it stays fun anyway. So yeah, this is pretty decent stuff, and is worth a watch. It's great that the arcade games in it are actually real, even if the players are unrealistically good, and occasionally do things not possible in the real games. :)

It's difficult to even imagine what their shows could look like without the aid of computer graphics.
It looks fairly average. Cute but super fanservicey visuals, decent art, etc. It's not Modern Shaft.

Surely that's some kind of exaggeration.
The rape begins in chapter 68.

Inugami finds her in chapter 96. Although her mind is so broken she tries to fuck him before she recognizes who he is.

Oh, and I thought Berserk was bad.

Well, I guess Bereserk is bad, but that's downright sickening. Do people actually read and it enjoy Wolf Guy?

It had a kind of non-ending. I hope, for humanity's sake, that it was cancelled due to unpopularity.
...what the fuck
If Wolf Guy had an anime/OVA, it'd be the kind of stuff we recommend to newbies.

It sounds like the kind of thing that they'd try and ban with those new Japanese laws.

I don't think they did. Those laws are actually ended up pretty lenient.

I'm pretty sure nobody does. It was pretty popular prior to the rape, but pretty much everyone dropped it eventually. It was honestly pretty impressive, mangagaf never drops anything.

Well once he's a few years older then it'll be rape rape and not 15 year old rape.

Wait what.

Huh, I guess there are certain lines people wont cross.

Apart from Izayoi.

Izayoi would just complain that the rape in Wolf Guy is too vanilla.

Apparently Sentai's dubs are all campy shit, but having all the voice actress affect shitty German, French and English accents makes it amazing.

And of course, there's also the
I can see her labia!
line in the beach episode.
oh wow, it looks like i've got something to look forward to!
