Star Wars |OT| I have a very good feeling about this...

I'm not surprised about Ren not being a Sith either. I really like where they're going with things like Sith, the Empire/Republic. It would have been so easy to just given fans what they think they want (new Jedi Order, new Republic, etc).

It made sense for the Sith as they were to die with Sidious and Vader. Something new that's inspired by or idolises the Sith is much more interesting to me.

I didn't think he would be after the Knights of Ren news but I'm pretty happy about a different type of villain personally.

Agree so much with this. I LOVE new villains and not some rehash of old villains. The final Sith died when Vader died.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!

Yeah, and it definitely moves the series/universe forward in a more interesting way than just perpetually throwing new Sith out there whenever the previous ones are killed.

“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’” Abrams reveals. “What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

OK, this is fairly awesome. What if it's a cult of fanatics who worship Vader?

Pretty great news that the universe is moving "away" from Sith-badguys. That's one thing I disliked about the prequels. Somehow, there was always another Sith taking over. Sure, it COULD fit the lore ... but neither Maul nor Dooku were fleshed out. Would've liked to see Maul be the "ultimate" Sith in the prequels.

Was Dooku a full fledged Sith Lord?

Dooku didn't even know what he was himself. Blame poor writing for this. This got picked up in the Clone Wars.
He was, like Anoregon said, a "Darth". He had the title but that's it. I don't see him as a full fledged bad-guy though. He was a puppet in Sidious's play.

On one hand I'd have liked there to be only one Sith apprentice under Sidious before Anakin, so there would have more of an ongoing conflict and a chance for more character development. On the other hand, I loved having Christopher Lee in Star Wars and even though Dooku was an under-utilised character, he still gave a good performance.

Definitely a bit of Dracula there.

That's one thing I love about Clone Wars. Sure, I would have liked Lee to have been utilized better in the films but at least TCW fleshes him out so much more and makes him far more interesting.

I wonder if the Inquisitors from Rebels are somehow associated with the Knights of Ren? Maybe they were the first?

Or maybe the KoR are some other Dark Side sect that have been around in this nu-Canon universe.

is "knights of ren" a comfirmed group?
just sounds weird if there is a more powerful sith above kylo ren

Hang out with Steve.

.

That's what I'm thinking, that the Knights of Ren grew out of the Inquisitors. Watch one of the Inquisitors in this season's Rebels end up being named Ren.

in the empire article everyone talks about it says kylo is not a sith because he works for snoke

This is from the EW article a few weeks ago.

Remember how we eventually learned that “Darth” is not a first name, but a kind of title? It appears the surname “Ren” is something similar.

“He is a character who came to the name Kylo Ren when he joined a group called the Knights of Ren,” Abrams says. But that’s as far as the writer-director will go. What are the Knights of Ren? You’re going to have to wait until Dec. 18 to find out.

http://www.ew.com/article/2015/08/12/star-wars-force-awakens-kylo-ren/2

Wait guys why is everyone against new sith? What about new Jedi? Isnt that the reason of good and evil in the universe

You can have the dark side of the force without the Sith having to be the antagonists.

More or less, straight from JJ's mouth. The scope of the group is still a mystery at this point. I think it is entirely possible, and certianly think it would be awesome, if Kylo was like a junior member of the group. After JJ name dropped the Knights of Ren, my first instinct with regard to the Benicio Del Toro casting rumors was that he could very well play a senior member of the group, like say a Lancelot analogue, with Snoke as the papal or monarch figure.

You can also have a light side without a lot of Jedi. I doubt there'll be a lot of them over the trilogy either.

Edit: that kinda makes me sad as I love the Jedi as a whole. I'd love to see a Star Wars "Story" film that takes place pre-prequels when the Jedi were at their best but I know that's not going to happen. Fingers still crossed for that Obi-Wan flick...

Topps has delayed the "hobby store" version of the Journey to the Force Awakens cards until September 16th. The "retail" version is still coming out on Force Friday, and apparently Walmart, Target, TRU and Walgreens will be getting exclusive inserts in their packs. This is going to make collecting a full set that much more difficult.

THE FORCE AWAKENS AROUND THE WORLD: STAR WARS FANS INVITED TO JOIN GLOBAL EVENT ON YOUTUBE
THIS IS WHY FRIDAY IS THE BEST DAY OF THE WEEK.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens products are set to be unveiled in the world’s first ever global live toy unboxing event. Unfolding over 18 hours in 15 cities and 12 countries, the event will see highlights from the range of epic merchandise revealed in a rolling New Year’s Eve style celebration featuring top digital stars from the Maker Studios network.

“Star Wars toys have always played an important role in how our fans interact with the saga,” says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. “They’ve inspired multiple generations to relive the experience of the movies and to create new adventures all their own. These spectacular Star Wars: The Force Awakens products will continue that tradition.”

Kicking off in Sydney, Australia on the morning of September 3 and continuing through Asia, Europe, Canada, and North and South America, selections from the new toy line will debut to global fanfare leading up to retailers around the globe opening their doors at midnight.

Countdown to Force Friday

“Over the course of 18 hours, some of Maker Studios’ biggest stars will each be unboxing a new toy from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens product line in a different city around the world and sharing the experience live on YouTube,” said Leslie Ferraro, President, Disney Consumer Products. “We’ve seen tremendous excitement for these new products and can’t wait to see the global reaction from the Star Wars fan community.”

The Star Wars YouTube channel will host the live stream, which kicks off with the first unboxing in Sydney, Australia at 7:45 a.m. local time on Thursday, Sept. 3 (5:45 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, Sept. 2), with the grand finale at Lucasfilm in San Francisco at 8 a.m. PDT (11 a.m. EDT) on Thursday, Sept. 3. Each of the 15 locations will reveal a new product inspired by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

These “unboxing” videos will feature online personalities sharing the excitement of opening the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys. Unboxing videos have captivated millions of Internet viewers and continue to grow in popularity — 18 of the top 100 most viewed YouTube Channels worldwide are dedicated to toys and toy unboxings. These 18 channels accounted for 8.1 billion views in Q1 2015.

“We’re excited to be part of this first-of-its-kind initiative,” said Chris M. Williams, Chief Audience Officer, Maker Studios. “The unboxing world continues to expand rapidly as audiences around the world connect with digital creators who share their passions. This shared fandom helps attract billions of monthly views and consistently puts the genre at the top of the YouTube charts.”

The global event will incorporate traditional toy unboxers such as the popular EvanTubeHD, channels featuring families such as Bratayley, lifehack specialists such as ExpCaseros, gamers such as AlexBy11, and Star Wars fans from around the world like Chris Pirillo who bring with them a broad audience and appeal. Gonna be glued to youtube Sept 2nd-3rd looks like.

I'm sure the stream will be archived, good for USA fans since most of it takes place overnight or in the early morning hours.

Empire magazine has reached subscribers. Some new BTS stills, making of stories and some hints about the plot and Kylo Ren's involvement but the hints still pretty much give away nothing. lol

I'm okay with that. I make some effort to stay in the dark on things but I would love if they did manage to keep some genuinely surprising secrets out of the PR cycle.

I was really just hoping they were ditching the 'Darth' naming convention, I was thought that was dumb and took away from the uniqueness of Vader.

I don't think there's much they can reveal at this point except for stills that would interest me. I've read enough of the plot now, that I'm just ready to see the movie at this point. If someone had a script, I don't think I'd even read that. I want the full trailer and then the long wait.

If I didn't already own the physical copies of half of these, I would buy the hell out of this bundle. The OT Radio Dramas are definitely worth $15; the rest are substantially inferior in terms of production value and presentation, but are still worth at least one listen. Good value overall.
