Star Wars Outlaws runs "pretty poorly" on the Switch 2

Yesterday, GVG shared a video on their YouTube that runs through their time at PAX West with Outlaws on the Switch 2. Things start off suspiciously enough, as GVG confirms that Outlaws was the only game at PAX that Nintendo wasn't allowing anyone to film any footage of, even behind the shoulder.
GVG's Steve Bowling makes it pretty clear why Nintendo wasn't allowing filming, as he says that it runs "pretty poorly" on the Switch 2 from what he saw at PAX. This is mainly down to the game's framerate and resolution, which are much worse on the handheld than in the original game.
To make matters even more wince-inducing, GVG only saw linear sections of Star Wars Outlaws, with the game's massive open world areas not being on show during PAX. If the game is struggling to run a linear segment on a Star Destroyer, god only knows what it's going to look like when you get to the rolling fields of Toshara.

Docked BTW.

I remember one of Switch ass port games (I think it was one of Batman ones), where DF asked about performances and expectations and they were like "we don't have expectations for this game so we don't bother".

I didn't love the game on the PS5 but I was actually going to give this a go on the Switch 2 as I feel I would enjoy it more on the go.

Need to definitely rethink that now.

I bet Good Vibes Gaming (cringe) were in tears having to criticise their beloved Switch 2. I have and really like my Switch 2, always been a Nintendo console user, but my god am I frustrated by people putting their head in the sand when it comes to performance issues with this console. This is not just one game, it's the majority of the Switch 2's third party offerings so far, only a few months into the lifecycle. It's not good enough, and Nintendo made a massive mistake underclocking the console as much as they did.

I'm getting flashbacks of the Wii U launch.

A couple kickass first party games + a bunch of half-baked ports of games that have already been played by anyone who was interested in them.

The better question is of all star wars games to port, why outlaws?

Because Ubisoft is desperate to recoup their losses on the game as quickly as possible.

That said, I'm with you. Fallen Order would have been a much better choice for "first Star Wars game on Switch 2," but EA's priority seems to be to get their incredibly lucrative sports franchises on the new system ASAP, so who knows if Respawn even has a devkit yet.

I love seeing the same few bitter posters post in any possible negative Switch 2 threads. It must really piss them off that it's such a huge success.

Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor should also be way easier to port given that there are last gen versions of both of them.

but I guess it's typical of Ubisoft to port stuff to everything they can. that's always been their thing. while EA was always more selective

Respawn has chosen Apex Legends as their first Switch 2 project. So they must have dev kits

Does Ubisoft have any other Star Wars games?

Not sure why people are claiming it doesn't run well on the other consoles, both the PS5/XSX have 99% locked 30/40 fps modes and the 60fps stays over 50fps all the time, well within the VRR window. PS5 Pro is basically a locked 60fps as well. Getting locked 60fps (or higher) on PC doesn't require a mega GPU either.

The Switch 2 simply isn't powerful enough to run an open world game with RTGI, same goes for the Steam Deck, it runs like shit on that as well.
