I've got a bad feeling about this...

Yes, under half a million is niche. And I'm not even talking players, the design of the game is not approachable for even a regular gamer.

LotRO went free to play for a reason. It didn't do well. And it didn't do well because the game doesn't use the lore well with an ultra strong IP to work with.

Lol, remember this? The opening of Ahn'qiraj?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mELEr4UpbvI

Made the entire event unplayable as Silithus crashes the server for several days.

Hey, I liked the gates opening. Fond memories of an MMO with an actual community outside of guild. Sure, the servers were a bit unstable, but I still had a blast.

How long before it's outdated? 2 months?

Looking at the contents, it doesn't look like it's heavy on statistics and numbers:

• Find the location of every hidden Datacron to augment your stats
• Hundreds of maps packed with critical information to guide you through your adventure
• Custom-made world maps includie every taxi, bind point, vendor, and more
• Tactical readouts on enemy locations, from Korriban’s deserts to Ilum’s icy plains
• Planetary survival guides for all 8 classes: Jedi Consular, Jedi Knight, Smuggler, Trooper, Bounty Hunter, Imperial Agent, Sith Inquisitor, and Sith Warrior
• Comprehensive atlases for all planets: Alderaan, Coruscant, Hoth, Tatooine, and more
• Page through tons of exclusive concept art
• Beautifully bound, hardcover book

I think it's actually geared towards being useful in a game that will get patched heavily.
Clever girl.

edit: Sure, it won't cover new content, just what is available at launch.

These things should launch an online update-able version instead!

Locked out of my account since last Friday due to security questions issues. Responses I give aren't working so I can't log on to the site even. The email form for support results in a CSR telling me to call their number. One day I tried that and got told by a recording that their phone support wasn't working properly and I should use the web form.

Tried the web form again, got told the same thing. Called the number again, and it connects but there's nothing but dead air on the line now.

Yes, I know it's a beta.

Reading others' experiences so far, it seems they're only doing phone support for secret response issues, and that others have been seeing the same issues with getting their problem resolved.

Hope they wrangle this by the time the game comes out.

I actually used my cataclysm guide quite a bit. It came in handy when I needed to reference which faction vendors carried rep gear for my class and how much rep was needed. Saved me a lot of time from making dry runs to the wrong vendor or not having enough rep

What's the early access date?

If I pre-order now via Origin, when do I get access?

When are they wiping the servers?

Starts the 15th, but when you register your copy determines when you get in for early access and right now a person is likely not going to get early access till like a day or two early? But no one knows as they haven't notified people of when they are getting in for early access.

I'm sorry if this gets asked a lot, but is there a preferred place to pre-order from or is there no difference? I haven't seen any deals or exclusive crap yet, though I was wondering if you guys thought the digital CE pre-order items were worth it.

I suppose, but I don't think this will be the standard type of guide. I wonder if Prima decided to focus on making it something fans enjoy owning and looking over, rather than the typical guide. You know, the one nerds keep open through the entire game, following every step page by page. The shape itself does not lend itself to that mindset:

Just don't order from gamestop, getting codes for stuff from them is pointless and they are supposedly sold out of early access codes. Think Best Buy is still offering it.

It's mostly cosmetic stuff. The best option at this point is just to preorder from Origin, as you get the game guaranteed on release day and can download the game ahead of time.

This sort of thing isn't needed with the internet. Torhead or a similar website will have all of the information you need within days of the game going live.

...fraps can take screenshots :(

weird that it only takes screenshots.

Anyone else been playing with the skill calculator?

I'm going to try to make a Scoundrel build focusing on Sawbones and maybe Scrapper.

http://www.torhead.com/calculator/skill#401MffbzGoRzZMIModZb.1 - IA version

http://www.torhead.com/calculator/skill#701MffbzGoRzZMIMokZh.1 - Inferior smuggler version.

This is what I plan on playing as in every situation that isn't a crazy tough dungeon or a raid (Where I'll actually need the aoe heal). Generating TA's from heals and using them on lacerations = fun to me. Energy free backstabs for downtime seems really appropriate as well. I'm still debating between the 2% crit versus the 2nd point of collateral strike/flying fists; probably end up dropping the crit.

If you pre-order now, I think you'll get 1-3 days early. Which is lame. Hopefully it was just some lame marketing scheme and they go back on that and let everyone in with 5 days early access. Such a shitty move on their part to splinter guilds/friends in a MMO where part of the fun is being there experiencing it together and running FPs and stuff. A couple days can make a big difference in levels and content for people as far as what point they're at in it.

Wiping the servers? You mean deleting people's old accounts? Probably being done as we speak because they have to get the guilds in place from that web service they did to pre-register guilds with your allies/adversaries.

The whole point is to slowly get people in the game and make the launch smooth. They did the same thing for the large scale beta last weekend, so I don't see them going back on it.

Or you could just use the internet. Or hell, with WoW, you could install AtlasLoot which literally had all faction vendors locations and items available and at what reputation levels.

Then those people should just wait to play with their friends. The game supposedly has over a mil preorders, letting everyone download the client and on to play at the same early access date is going to be hell and even with this staggered approach they are going to do, it will likely be the same way.

A day or two really is not going to make a huge difference, not everyone plays every minute and day of a MMO with just their friends and guildies

What are the chances that BW will allow us to update our Early Access code before we play? It'd suck not to get my CE stuff.

Nope. Nope a Dev confirmed it was still images only months ago. However, what exactly that means when the game has screenshot functionality like every other game, remains to be seen.

Would be cool if they're stills, but movable slightly. Think the loading screens in Killzone 2.

If you have the latest client, don't uninstall yet. They said that they're planning to patch it to Early Game Access / Live. Clients from before Nov. 25th, a re install is recommended.

Edit - There should be a post on the forums soon to fully clarify what to do with that client, etc.

The email says to uninstall to prepare for early access.

I said as much when I saw the rumors about being able to patch the beta to retail.
