Source that isn't based on weak mcvuk.com speculation?

The article you link says:

EA's estimate puts its launch somewhere between March 31st and December 31st of this year.
Far from a confirmation of delay.

this is fucking rediculdieolous.

What the hell is taking so long?

The game is massive and the production values are high. When has that combination not led to delays?

Article on massively covering EA conference with inverstors: http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/0...ms-at-a-half-million-subscribers-to-make-swt/

The target to be profitable is 500k subscribers, and also denies the rumored 300mil budget that was being tossed around online, though admits the budget is high.

Also the game's delay has been confirmed so it wont be out this spring.
Boy, I hope no one believed that 300M figure. Voice talent is paid nicely, but they aren't exactly rolling around in Bentleys (unless they're famous for something else that pays better.) Even if they had 1000 different actors voicing 10000 different roles (which they don't,) it still wouldn't be anywhere near 300M.

Friday update is up about the design process of Flashpoints: http://www.swtor.com/news/blog/20110204

Your character's storyline will be impacted by flashpoints, but it sound sit will mainly be about your character's morality and such as I had speculated earlier.

EA has moved the release time frame from the previously target Spring 2011 from it's previous reports to Calender 2011. They wouldn't say this to investors if it likely wasn't to be delayed and it's been speculated for a long time now that it seems hard for them to make that date. They still have very late spring/early summer chance here, but it seems unlikely right now especially if they are moving the goal posts. Game is not going to make March at this point with zero release details or preorder info going out, nor any news on open beta testing. April even is pretty dubious at this point.

Seeing it was from a ranting Mythic employee who was mainly one of the Warhammer Online devs, it seemed like crazy rantings to me. Voice talent is not going to cause 300 mil budget, and the writers are mostly made up of Bioware writing teams who have worked on the previous games, they wouldn't be getting massive raises just for this game. And if 500k subscribers is good enough for them, then the 300m budget is obviously BS

Everyone at BioWare and EA is working to ensure that Star Wars: The Old Republic is delivered at the quality level you expect from BioWare and Star Wars.

‪Star Wars: The Old Republic is expected to launch this year after the close of EA's fiscal 2011 (which ends March 31st, 2011). Information on the release date and pre-order programs will be released as it becomes available.

Gamespot has listed SWTOR in Day 5's 2011 Most anticipated. And as a treat, for everyone has new screens as well:

is this somehow actually a younger Vader or another clone? because trying to emulate the original 10,000 fucking times is really a disservice to the original legend. shit needs to stop.

seriously, how many Vader wannabes, spin-offs and downright copycats are we at now?

understood, but it's bizarre to me that all the breathing apparatus controls and such are all over the suit. not trying to sound like a negative nancy, and i'm hyped to see how this turns out, but a little originality needs to be brought back to star wars. the series needs a breath of fresh air, imo. a reboot.

Revan, in my humble opinion, was a nice departure and new villain. the design payed homage to Vader, but it wasn't in your face about it.

anyway, sorry. end rant.

From stuff I have been shown there is a great variety in armors etc. There are some that obviously share a direction with stuff from the movies. I think some people would complain if they couldnt look vader like or Boba fett like.

Classes like the Sith Inquisitor gets some off the wall creative designs

Yes. And Riccitiello said the outlay was substantial so I wouldn't be surprised if it hit 75-125M, but not three times that.

Im guessing so. The rumor is September. If hope they could get it earlier personally but if its September then it is.

As for the budget talk it was a disgruntled employee who was taking out his anger on SWTOR probably because he feels TOR stole away EAs focus. Ive been told there is a decent list of celebrities providing voice over work for some stuff but theres no way the pay is gonna inflate the budget any.

Y'know, this was originally one of my most anticipated games of 2011, but now that Skyrim, Mass 3, Gears 3, UC3, Arkham City, and many more games are coming out I have to reconsider my current anticipation. I would not actually mind a 2012 release date. 0_o

The big problem is the limitation when it comes to new news. Its obvious they are going to miss a Pre E3 launch so they are gonna keep strining everyone along til E3 then probably do the big load blowing.

It really kills the enthusiasm especially when its supposed to be so close to launch.

That's true. I am pretty sure they have to release it in 2011 now, although I am not sure if even mentioning a target release date was the best idea in the first place.

We were getting a pretty good amount of info on a consistent basis for a while but it seems now that the delay was confirmed they have slowed down probably to hold back stuff till closer to launch again.

A hardcover art and making of book also recently was solicited and is coming in Nov, so perhaps the late summer thing can happen. Another comic book series by the same team as the last two series was also announced to be on the way so perhaps more gap filling for the delay

Yeah they also say the slow down is due to them planning for Pax but its obvious the delay is a big part of it. Late summer into Winter seems the likely situation as they wont even offer a guesstimate now.

It's also due to poor feedback from recent focus tests. And the fact that there have been some high-level departures from BioWare Austin including the co-Studio Head who bailed to make Facebook games for Disney.

Yeah. Hearing about Gordan leaving was a big shock. Guy was awesome back at SOE during his galaxies days. Would get on the forums at 2-3 AM and answer questions, address concerns etc

And Vogel was the exact opposite. They lost the wrong guy and got to keep the crappy one.

Even Kevin O'Hara is back at SOE now. BioWare Austin is starting to bleed to death.

"EA Louse" was more spot on than people like to think. There's a reason why Lucasarts washed their hands of the game and is having EA publish it instead.

I know where I love mine ;)

Actually an interview with Georg Zoeller and Daniel Daniel Erickson that was part of the ign update:
http://ie.pc.ign.com/articles/115/1153371p1.html

(And ooooooo EAlouse...he's never had any direct affiliation with the project and all of his opinion of the game is based on hearsay...there is alot of wild misinformation, rumors, and speculation on the web.)

The games going to be at PAX east so folks should be on the lookout for new updates coming up as well as more feedback from people who have a chance to play through it.

Was the art style changed? This seems far more colorful then I remember. Then again it's been a very long time since I paid any attention to this game.

Art style has remained pretty much the same and improvements are constantly being made by the artists.

For comparison, screenshot from a year ago:

Fuck, that is hideous. I'm still super hyped for this game but the armour and weapons are pretty awful.
Almost every armor in kotor looked horrible or lame in other ways, so I'm not surprised.

Yea outside of a couple aspects, I really was not huge into Biowares designs for the era, I much preferred the unique stuff Dark Horse did with the era.

The weapons in these new pics though seem to be toned down and smaller than what we saw before.

Rift will keep me tied over until this comes out. It better be really polished though, Trion has raised the bar with MMO releases.

I have to imagine it will have a degree of polish better than most at launch. They did do what wasnt allowed to happen with Galaxies. Delayed it. I still have alot of faith in the team as many of the guys I know put their all into it.

Should have stayed in touch better so I could have gotten into beta lol. How i miss beta testing :(

PAX East begins in just one week and Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ will be there! If you’re heading to the show, all you need to remember is to visit Booth 912. Our show floor Booth hours are:

* Friday, March 11th: 10AM – 7PM EST
* Saturday, March 12th: 10AM – 6PM EST
* Sunday, March 13th: 10AM – 6PM EST

Even if you can’t make it to the show, we have some exciting events planned that we want to tell you more about. Read on for all the details.
World Gameplay Premiere - Flashpoint: Taral V

Hidden deep within the Maelstrom Nebula, a top-secret Imperial prison holds a Jedi Master who is invaluable to the Republic war effort. As part of a Republic strike team, you must assault a heavily defended compound on the jungle world of Taral V...

Inside the main PAX East exhibition hall, visitors to Booth 912 will be among the first in the world to play the mid-game Republic Flashpoint, Taral V! Taking the role of a Trooper, Smuggler, Jedi Knight or Jedi Consular, you’ll team up with other players in an extended hands-on gameplay experience. This is a challenging mission which even MMO veterans may find difficult, but we will prepare everyone who plays with a tactical briefing at the booth.

A Flashpoint is a challenging, cooperative mission that takes place entirely within an instance, which only your group can enter. Visit the Flashpoints Game Systems Page and the Building Flashpoints Developer Blog to learn more and to watch previously revealed in-game footage of Taral V.
PAX East Gameplay Premiere – Tython, the Jedi Homeworld

In addition to fighting through the Imperial forces on Taral V, visitors who want a briefer gameplay experience – or just find themselves drawn to the Dark Side – will get the opportunity to play on any of the Origin Worlds of Star Wars: The Old Republic.

For the first time at a consumer event, all eight of The Old Republic classes will be available for attendees to play, including the much-anticipated debut of the Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular. From the heavily armored Republic Trooper to the Force-wielding Sith Warrior, everyone will get a chance to experience the unique story-driven gameplay of The Old Republic.
Presentations and Live Q&A

Conquered Taral V? Experienced every Origin World? There’s still more. Throughout all three days of PAX East we’ll be giving presentations of Star Wars: The Old Republic from our booth stage, including live Q&A sessions with Developers from the BioWare Austin team. Ask James Ohlen (Lead Designer) and Daniel Erickson (Lead Writer), as well as other team members, your burning questions.
Community Meet and Greet

That’s not all! Once the show floor closes on Saturday, March 12th, the Community team for Star Wars: The Old Republic will be hosting a Community Meet and Greet event at the Westin Boston Waterfront hotel, conveniently located right next to the PAX East convention center. Come along to meet the Community team in person, your fellow Star Wars fans, and of course members of the Development team. We’ll bring the food and drinks!

Entrance to the Community Meet and Greet is by invitation only, and capacity is limited. Visit Booth 912 to pick up your invite, but arrive early to ensure entry.
Can’t make it to PAX East?

If you can’t make the trip to Boston, never fear... we’ll be keeping you up to date from the show floor via our Community Forums, our Twitter feed and via our official Facebook page.
Man I'm so jealous right now. :*(
