Stopped in a nearby GameStop to maybe get a WiiU and they're setting up the new Steam display????

@austin_walker Yeah, I was in one today and they had a Steam controller on the back counter

Are those boxes empty though I wonder.

The GameStop nearest to me also has that up.

EDIT: Lazy Saturday. Only one of the 3 Gamestop's near me had a display up today, and that one didn't know about the Early Bird Special.

I think gear shifting in car games by performing swipes up/down on the right touchpad could be kind of cool.

My order still says shipping soon. NA here.

I'm assuming this is a BPM bug in the beta. I'm using a DS3

Also just installed and tested Ori just to have it ready for when the Steam Controller arrives, but having a different bug where the image gets flipped upside down for no reason and the controller behaves oddly without my own input. Weird.

I think I will buy one of these during the first sale. $40 is my magic number. I hope Valve applies their Steam sale philosophy here. I'll probably buy my second one for $30 max.

Doesn't sound like you've followed this well.

The PS4 touch pad does not function the same as the Steam Controller. The big sell is trackball simulation thanks to the haptics and software/firmware. The sensation of using it is that of moving a literal ball in the controller. It has simulated mass, size, and from that it gives momentum and the ability to be flicked around and brought to an appropriate stop, whether by the thumb or just the momentum running out.

The result is a lot more control over 1:1 velocity based movements with larger movements than the surface area of the pad could support if it was behaving as a normal touchpad.

Better still, is being able to blend two of these together when playing mouse centric games

Anyone know whats up with the Gamestop pre-orders? AFAIK if you pre-ordered with Gamestop with the early first batch, you would get in on the early pre-release in early Oct, but I called my GS and they are now telling me Nov 10th? WTF :\

Shipment information sent to FedEx

Anticipated ship date :
Tues 10/06/2015

Estimated delivery :
Sat 10/10/2015

Don't know why, but I get the feeling that it's probably not going to get here today... :|

So, everyone in this thread and other places who said it was estimated for today or the 13th did pre-order it directly through Steam? Not one of those was GS, EB etc?

Mine was directly through steam for the 13th.
Label created, but still not actually shipped yet. Hoping it ships on Monday from somewhere close by. (I'm on USA West Coast)

Seems that way. I'm going to see how things go with people posting in here, but I don't think many will have it between now and the 13th. So I think I'll wait till the 15th to put the OT up

Yeah, the ran out / stopped the early pre-orders in July I think. Now you'd have to wait till November 10th

LOL. yep, pretty much.

I'm from the UK, and am still waiting for it to be shipped.
At me moment mine says. "Transfer data, packet not yet received." when i check the tracking.

Yes. Sorry.

Thanks,
oh well guess I have advantage of impressions from you guys!

You do get it early
GameStop employees are just being GameStop employees.

heh, thanks but i want to know if it's as accurate and fast as kb/m for shooters. that's really all i want to know.

It's possible. If someone had 20 years experience with a KB/M and the other had 20 years experience with a Steam controller, then I wouldn't expect there to be much between them.

Source ?

GS employee told me Nov now, and my receipt now says Nov? (and I was the first person to pre order in that store)

If you did it in store, that might be the problem. Steam was redirecting everyone to the relevant store's online store front, and they had specific product listings for the early delivery. With GAME, you could choose either to have it delivered for the 16th October or to collect it on the 16th at a store of your choice.

On GAME, if I go to the order page and click what I ordered, it doesn't actually exist any more. So I'd take a guess they got you pre-ordering the wrong item in the store

My steam controller supposedly shipped on the 29th of September. Yet the tracking status still is "Information transmitted, no shipment available now" (GLS, Europe).

Has anybody seen another status since they received the shipping notification from steam?

I never had the choice to pick it up in store when I ordered, despite the website saying I'd be able to.

Any news from the tracking? I've not signed up for an account so can't check status.

I have a game pre-order and was expecting to be getting it early, but there is so no order update from them. Is this the same for everyone else who ordered through game?

If you ordered via their website, test this - go to your order, and click on the Steam Controller item. If it leads you to an error page, that should mean you are in the Oct 16th group, since they have now removed the listing for that item. If you click it and it takes you to the Steam Controller page with the 10th November delivery date, you'll be in the later group.

It can come close, but it won't be as accurate as a kb/m if you had the most skilled player for each. That's just the way it is when you have the access to so many keys and more ways to articulate a mouse / keyboard. That certainly isn't a slant towards the controller though. It's looking like pretty much the better "jack of all trades" controller solution thus far and comparable to a mouse / keyboard in terms of accuracy. It won't be perfect though, nothing is

i haven't been following this that well... is this the new mouse/kb equivalent or no?
People have had decades of experience with kb&m, some even lifetimes. I don't think the Steam controller has existed long enough, especially in the competitive space, for anyone to say how it stacks against other input methods for high level play. The population and familiarization simply arent there yet.

Still would love to see more impressions....
Are there any Keyboard & Mouse Only games that have optimized their Interface for the Steam Controller yet?

* Didn't I hear that Civilization 5 has such an interface?

* How about Paradox Interactive? They were an early proponent of the Steam Controller.... Did they add an optional Interface to either Europa Universalis IV or Crusader Kings II ...?

FedEx has my delivery set for today, but it's still sitting on "label created" in their IL warehouse. I'm in the US. Hopefully it shows up today but not getting my hopes up.

Yeah, my order is in the whole "label created" phase at the IL warehouse and it was supposed to ship yesterday with a slated arrival of this coming Tuesday.

Yet on Steam itself, it has the estimated shipping date as 10/16.

That's kind of what I'll be interested in with those kinds of games. Cause its kind of a moot point playing Civ or CK2 on a TV while you're sitting on a couch with your Steam controller if the UI and text are all going to be microscopic.

The problem there is that those games have that interface for a reason. You need all that information surfaced to you at a glance, not hidden in menus, or the game quickly becomes drudgery.

Ive resigned myself to the reality that for some games this controller will be a way to lay back on your chair and play it that way on your monitor, not 10 feet away from a 1080p tv.

Still thats awesome, and those types of games should be in the minority.

Welp my controller/link estimated shipping date updated from 10/10 delivery to "pending" as of tonight.

In my account history Steam says "Estimated Shipping Date: Oct 16, 2015"

Same situation here. I got my email on October 9th saying they were fixing to ship my Steam controller and Steam link.
