Last time I checked around a 400,000 people were eligible. Whats gaf's pop? Like 100k? Id assume at least 1 person on gaf will be chosen.

Edit:

VALVE LIED SAID THERE WERE ONLY 300 NOT 311

I think this is why I had my profile public.

Until like, two days ago when I made it friends only again because I couldn't remember why it was public.

No doubt I would have been one of the few to try the controller if I hadn't done that! :'(

I want to try that new controller so fucking bad.

And everyone can download the SteamOS on December 13th? That's big news tbh.

If you think about it, Valve has already screwed up the Steambox release, by only allowing the console to come out in America of a shipment of 300 shows that the company is in dire consequences with hardware manufacturing. Even Mircosoft and Sony were able to start shipping to tier 2 countries so far which shows how deep Valve has fallen in not being able to ship hardware.

Then we come to the OS, with it's pre-baked functionality it's gonna turn a lot of customers away and will need months of updating before it becomes usable. The biggest sign of failure is the fact that SteamOS drops native support for the majority of it's previous games in favor of a buggy OS.

Don't get me started on the controller...

Failure on the level of the Ouya for sure.

Their investors aren't going to be happy. I can't wait to see the quarterly earnings report ... it's going to be a bloodbath!

Good point, the stock probably has a built in buffer for this bungled release though so we probably won't see much movement.

Now they have my adress and name etc...and i dont have any chance to get one because im from EU. Yeah fuck you gaben.

Alright guys, come on. There was obviously some sort of legal issue with getting it over seas. If they had told you before this announcement the upsetness would have been the same. Hell, they said even they were bummed because they really wanted that over sea data.

Move on.

Lol. I wish you had pointed out it was shipping to beta testers in the thread title. Got me excited for a sec.

Every piece of news about the steam machines has been about the prototypes?

They would magically go from working on/shipping the prototypes to mass release....how?

if the number of 421,843 is accurate, and there are 300 machines going out

then the odds are 1 in 1406

Break out the USA only portion of those and you will have the true odds.

I wonder what the first eBay auction of this thing will go for.

If they are still in the shelves, you know at least it's because nobody is buying them.

so, Valve just shot themselves in the foot?

I genuinely can't tell if some of the people in here are serious or not.
Valve is a privately held company, they don't have any investors screaming at them.

This is a hardware beta, why are people comparing this to a traditional console launch?

I don't even.

They're being facetious.

There are 421,843 eligible beta testers.. please pick me! :( Wait, I wonder how many of those are in the U.S...
