Steam Summer Sale 2015 thread of refunding everything you buy (June 11-21)

I did the same. Reading comparisons to Portal 2, and seeing praise for its story/writing made me think I might really like that game. Wasn't even on my radar before.

I bought it a few days and love it, there's actually a ton of puzzles though so it's longer than Portal 2.

Think of the game as more like the first Portal where your doing tons of testing on different puzzles than the spectacles of Portal 2.

How is the Stanley Parable?

It's like the only thing I can afford. How's the length on it?
It's very short. I did most of the stuff you can do in it in under two hours. There isn't really much in the way of gameplay; without spoiling anything, you're basically walking around taking different paths while stuff happens around you.
The game wasn't really for me. I guess a lot of people like the witty writing.
But yeah, in terms of length, it's short and there's little reason to replay it.

It's a decent little narrative on the current state of gaming where people demand freedom and play your own way without realizing the implications and impossibilities of what players want.

Other than that its pretty much a walking simulator, even though it has something to say.

Short. There's multiple endings. The first can be done in >5 minutes. The focus isn't on gameplay, but narration. You follow that voice the first time. It can keep you for hours if you go against him and explore the others. There's no puzzles or anything, though. It's more like a story than anything.

I enjoyed it. I spent my money's worth in time playing it. Lovely little game. Plus, if by the first ending you don't enjoy the game for what it is
a total walking sim with maybe 2 buttons with perf narration
you can always refund it since it's >2 hours. :)

Like listening to a witty and humorous audio guide as one walks through the museum about an uninteresting and insignificant man. That's what I was told about it, as a compliment toward the game, much in the same vein as some Douglas Adam short tales.

It isn't long, but significantly more replayable than any other "Walk and listen to a person talk" game. Clever writing, some fun commentary on games and expectations. Good game.

Hi guys, sorry if this was asked a million time before in this thread... but how is the PC version of Wolfenstein: the new order? 4690k + 970 over here, I know I should get 60fps easily (1080p), I'm just asking in case the game it's a really bad port or something, never heard anything about the PC version.

Never played it before, it's looking really good for just $15.

Hold on, Enslaved PC version (which is still crazy that it happened) only has these three basic settings? I'm replaying it now. I loved this game on 360.

Low/medium/high the fuck?

The PC version is pretty good. Disable screen space reflections if you have any performance problems, you will not notice a difference and it will run quite a bit better.

One small thing to note is that it is capped at 60FPS, so if you run a 120Hz monitor you will not be able to take advantage of that. You can unlock it, but that also doubles the speed of the game.

Definitely not the greatest sale by any means, but I got Pillars and Homeworld on a decent discount so I won't complain.

Holy shit guys. I just finished Ori and the Blind Forest.

Just in time to tell you: GET AND PLAY THIS GAME.

It's a master class in game design. It's what a game is supposed to be. From the music to the controls to the difficulty, it's an incredible achievement that must not be missed.

Just bought a couple of Saints Row games, and Transistor, still considering Wolfenstein...

I'll likely get it before the end lol.

So it's the last day, I have some extra steam wallet moneys. Someone sell me on why should grab Quake 1 and 2 (the cheapest games in my wishlist that are on sale).

Am i better off waiting to spend the $15 on games later on or grab those two now?

Thanks guys. Btw is I know that CS:GO's community is big but does the same still apply for Bad Company?

This website gives a good idea of the current playercount (left-hand side). Not that many people, but still enough to ensure there will usually be at least a few populated servers to choose from.

Edit: handily beaten.

I really hope PayPal lifts the "temporary hold" on my USD$80 refund today -- a refund I've been waiting six days for as of a couple of hours ago.

It's not super active, but still enough people playing to find a good server. According to bfbcs.com there's roughly 2000 people playing now.

I played it back in November or something and had no problems finding filled up servers then.

Thanks!

I was looking for something around this price range and it's Double Dragon!

Controls are not totally clear as on screen popups don't cover everything, if you have problems just check any wikipedia/guide

things to keep in mind:

1) some enemies, when dying, drop a cassette. These tapes gives you special abilities: Sosetsitsu, which you need to activate manually and use your thunder shaped power bar that is below energy bar (it slowly builds up) or Stance, which are always on.
You can use one active and one passive at a time, but you can switch any time you want.
From time to time pause to see which one is better to select according to your style.
2) enter the various shops to get new tapes or increase ability level limit (at the beginning is 10)
Taking/buying additional tapes of the same ability increases its level.
3) when playing with a friend remember to high-five, which allows you to get a temporary boost, split energy or give little energy to the other player.
4) when your friend loses all energy, it will stay down for a couple of seconds before losing a life. If you go next to him and press B like a crazy you can pull him up
5) duck/dodge roll does not seem very useful in the first levels, but later on it become important, so learn correct timing from the beginning
6) as in every Double Dragon game, there is no time for sportsmanship. When you play with a friend, attack the same enemy from both sides and, when he/she drops on the ground, continue attacking for additional damage

Thanks for the info guys, I bought BC2, I needed a less hardcore shooter because CS:GO is making my blood pressure skyrocket.

Any other suggestion for cheap multiplayer games in general?

Btw, everyone should buy Chivalry imo, the game might not be perfect but it's so much fun and it's only 1.7 euros.

Excellent! I'll keep these tips in mind. Time to relieve the good old NES/SNES days :)

Copped Alien Isolation to end my steam sale.

Got Fallout New Vegas, Ethan Carter and Alien Isolation. Not bad.

Finished Ethan Carter last night, thought it was excellent once I looked up how the puzzles worked (I had done the Astronaut, Witch House, Door Portal but none of the crime scenes made sense to me until I looked up how the sense thing actually worked).

Great stuff. Looked incredible.

Already bought it. This could probably run on an HD4600 w/ 16 GB of RAM right? Don't have a graphics card yet, but I'm able to run Portal 2 well at 1080P and all high settings.

You've done well.

Question about the game, how much does the
combat
detract from
the experience? I was interested in Isolation when it came out, seen that it was present, and said "nope." My interest was piqued again with this sale so checked into some stuff again, seen how
effective
the
flamethrower
was in particular, and gave another "nope."

*I'm trying to be as careful as possible with spoilers. :)

It's very nicely produced but it is a game for those who enjoy breaking games. If you're looking for any substance, Stanley Parable is little more than a choose your own adventure auido book.

Is it worth investing in Pinball FX tables? I've been debating in my mind for the longest whether to go Steam, or PS family (own 3 and Vita, might buy 4 in near future).

Having high scores aren't an issue because I don't think any one on my friends list plays the games.

Dungeonmans is awesome.

It's sort of a cross between TomE and Dredmor, in that it's got a sort of overworld / dungeon setup of Tome but it generally streamlined/simplified like Dredmore -- though it does have more complexity than Dredmore overall. You can make some improvements to your home base that give you relatively minor advances across playthroughs, so it's not a pure permadeath game... though so far those are, as stated, pretty minor and would just let you skate through the earliest dungeons faster.

Really fun so far. Well worth my money, thank you for the recommendations, whoever sold me on it.

What expansions do fans of CK2 and EUIV think you can't play without? Or do they matter as much as Civ expansions?

I have both games, and now would be the time to get any expansions that improve them.

Breach & Clear and Grav are my gems from this steam sale. recommend both if you want throw some more cash away. They look pretty cool in your backlogs too.

Anyone with experience in Darkest Dungeon? I knew all press has been positive and I'm close to just pulling the trigger.

Darkest Dungeon is absolutely great. You might want to wait for the finished game to get the full story and content, but it's already easily worth it and very polished.
