Stellar Blade Releases on April 26, 2024 | State of Play

I see the box art rating reads, "RP" for "rating pending", but does anyone know if it'll be rated T or rated M?

Is there blood (red in color)?

I expected nothing but got pleasantly surprised (and not due to the T&A).

What surprised the most are the graphics and production values - how is this possible ? Isn't this a small time company comprised of a few people ?
Either they're extremely talented, or, judging by the info during the presentation, Sony studios helped them a lot.

There's also that Chinese DMC x FF character action game that's been in development since forever by that one guy (initially) which is still nowhere to be seen and it also received help from Sony studios, so, again, how's it possible that a game like stellar blade looks this good and polished coming from such an unknown dev team AND not only not being being vaporware but actually releasing soon ?

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong obviously !
These mobile games make a gross amount of amount compared to most console releases. I'm sure they gave their devs all the time they needed. If they're gonna get fed by whales they can at least invest in something like this. This game already had pretty good art direction before Sony got really involved but I'm sure it helped.

The amount of outfits is staggering and I personally think it's all in game. They've made no indication it'll be a gatcha game. It's strictly a single-player game according to Sony. The detail of that green glass-like Scarf Eve wears on her key outfit is very nice. The really long exgerrated hair physics is very cool. I'm glad we saw more of the overworld. There were a lot of NPCs. I didn't know if it was going to be a strict boss rush type game.

Ooooh aye, I bet you did!... I bet they were wet ones too.

Shift Up is top-tier in story and music, too. I don't expect any less in this game.

I understand that the whole conversation is about Eve's attributes and "stats" but the game is so much more than that. Sexy is the bait, but under that lies the real game. Pretty much from Yoko Taro's manual, too.

As for the censorship you guys are discussing, Shift-Up is the biggest new studio in Korea. Sony doesn't have the power to censor them. Not when the CEO of the company has made billions out of sexy designs.
So wait; is it the Korean studio that's also making the awesome looking PROJECT M?

No, this is their first game on consoles or PC (not counting PC client for mobile games)

They know Nintendo doesn't bend to bullies. This is textbook mob behavior, they only attack the weak (or those they feel weak)
Do you think it'll be rated M for mature or T for teen? I watched the vids and can't tell.

Does blood, or lack of, determine an M or T rating?

Very nice art direction and overall design.... but.... it kinda concerned me slightly that most of the footage appeared to be either cinematics or arena-style boss battles. I'd have expected more exploration and traversal to be shown if its a major part of the game, and that it isn't makes me worry that its being hidden for a reason - maybe its not running as well as they hope?

Which is fair, its something that they could still be working on, but you know, its still a open question as to how well it'll turn out.

Am I the only one that can't shake the feeling of "this game's art was AI generated" off? It looks like a world made up of that cheesy GPU art that we've seen on boxes many years ago. A lot of the stuff they showed felt pretty random too, lol.

You mean the character designs? The environments?

Stellar Blade monsters was hand crafted in clay before being scaned to the game. Shift Up is full of great artists, the CEO of the studio is one of them. They might even use AI as a tool, but i doubt you will see anything AI generated.

More so the characters. I think the overall aesthetic just isn't for me in the long run. But boy they're leaning hard on the T&A content, lol.

The character designer is a famous Korean artist/character designer that has worked on the Magna Carta series and Blade and Soul. He later went on the to start the game development company ShiftUp and did the character designs for Nikke Goddess Of Victory which is bringing in crazy amounts of money for ShiftUp.

I probably should've emphasized that I felt that way about the main human looking characters. The monsters looked solid.

That's awesome. I just can't shake that feeling off of the human characters, I guess it's just a personal thing. I was genuinely surprised people were even hyped about this, but this explains a lot. Appreciate the info!

I don't think this gameplay style is for me...etc, but that aside, it's great that a Korean game by a Korean studio is the one to NOT be afraid to show a female protagonist with T&A.

The wife and I are used to watching Korean dating-reality shows (Single's Inferno, Pink Lie, Love ft Marriage and Divorce...etc) where they aren't allowed to kiss/make-out/grab butts or even show a couple getting into a bed together...etc because it's against their TV-show culture.
The similar American reality-dating shows has couples' tongues down each other's throats, shows guys licking whipped cream off of butts/bare bellies, chics giving lap dances and couples grinding under the covers by the second episode.

So this Korean game developer making a protagonist look pretty must be a breath of fresh air to American gamers when compared to what the female protagonists in games like Spiderman 2, Horizon Forbidden West, Control, and Returnal look like, where the worlds are allowed to be beautiful but the women are not.

Are you telling me this isn't feminine enough?

I was talking about a PC release. I know it physically hurts to not be a Sony fanboy for .0000000000002 seconds, but chill....

No it physically hurts reading poorly worded responses…If you meant PC, then say PC…Saying its 'Timed' means to 99% of people that it is in fact coming to other consoles….

C'mon you didn't think that trailer was waaaay over the top cringe with the corny dialogue the horrible K Pop ballad music and the absolutely nonsensical story??? My eyes where rolling all the way outa their sockets

I think it's counter-programming. You know, like when all the scheduled releases are action movies you sneak a release into the schedule a low budget romantic comedy to get all the people who don't want action movies that weekend.
When every western game has deliberated removed eye candy for males from their games. You release a game and market it to explicitly sell to the consumers that are feeling the deprivation.

The lore and other characters look interesting, it seems it's not just and action game and Will have exploration alements. Looks solid.

Where did this game come from? The developer has no experience with action rpg like this, does that not have anyone worried?

That being said it does look fantastic

It seems Sony Japan it's involved, Guess this helps and pretty sure this Game originally was just a hack and Slash and Sony helped yo add lore, rpg, exploration elements.

Sony Japan might have assisted in the action gameplay, but the game direction is exclusively Shift Up's doing. They got enough experience in RPGs and worldbuilding. Their two other games are also RPGs and the main focus is in story/music/characters, same as this one.
