that's usually the case with original content. You could try making your title and cover art stand out to make people want to read it. Have you tried sending in drafts to companies? Maybe they can give you honest feedback or even accept the story?
My Story Club is decent at giving good feedback, the main problem with them so far is the fact that it's hard to get picked due to the point system.

Well, I only started going there earlier this month, but haven't been as frequent as the price for games I want to play are a bit pricey.
