buy whatever specialty vendor items (high-quality bandages, charms and equipment crystals) you need now, before the patch; specialty vendors won't re-open until after the vanarch elections.

New patch goes live tomorrow:

New Stuff and Changes
  • For players who weren't already wise to the Looking for Group window (Y) and LFG chat channel, LFG will be added to the general chat channel upon reaching level 18.
  • Default setting for party loot rolls has changed to "rare" and "class-specific".
  • There is now a clock in the lower right-hand corner of the game screen. Now you have no excuse for not knowing that you've been playing all night.
  • The images for other guilds' emblems are no longer stored on your hard drive. You'll have to download pictures elsewhere.
  • In preparation of the upcoming vanarch elections, many specialty shopkeepers, trainers and tradebrokers are taking a vacation. You'll have to petition your local elected officials to get them back to work.
  • Selected guards in Velika, Allemantheia, and Kaiator will now give directions to certain locations and NPCs within their cities if asked nicely.
  • When receiving or completing a reputation quest, the quest will now display which faction is awarding the reputation.
  • The world map will now show green markers where you can pick up daily quests.
  • The limit for the amount of money a player can spend on a single item at the trade broker has been raised to 990,000 gold. Better save your pennies.
  • You can now preview costume items in your Inventory or at the Brokerage by right-clicking them while holding down the CTRL button. So go ahead and take a look at your bad self.
  • There are now three enchanting tutorial quests—two at level 25 and one at level 48. You'll be enchanted, we're sure.
  • All mount skills now reactivate in one second. Pony up.
  • The baby blue horn giant toad you must escort now has five times its former HP. That's one bad-ass toad.
  • In the Fane of Kaprima and Temple of Balder instances on the hard setting, equipment drops have been re-randomized to avoid too many duplicate drops.
  • The Zolnaz Transporter at the northern Khanovar Front summons kallan armor soldiers. If you've never seen a kallan armor soldier, you'll probably just want to stay away. But those who must approach the transporter will be happy to hear that its summoning rate has decreased. The transporter previously summoned two soldiers initially, and then two more every 20 seconds until destroyed. It now summons two soldiers initially, and then summons more every 40 seconds until destroyed. Don't you feel better now?
  • Added additional climbing spots in Hungry Caverns.
  • Added a destination link to Berrul's quest in Granarkus.
  • Elected vanarchs on PvP servers will be able to flag PvP on and off once they arrive on Shara.
  • Some shell-shocked province guards who returned from the war to city life have been reassigned as city guards.

Bugs Squashed
  • Players using charging skills will no longer get locked in the charge when stunned by another player. Sorry, you'll still get stunned.
  • Your chats shouldn't be disappearing anymore when you switch between tabs.
  • You can now find superior gear from the Temple of Balder and the Fane of Kaprima at the trade broker using smart search.
  • The healing NPC will no longer steal the boss kill from players in Karascha's Lair. Why do priests always want to DPS?
  • We have disabled player character collision in the prologue.
  • Daily quests are now deleted from your quest log window when they've been completed or when you're no longer eligible.
  • Velik's festival ring can now be destroyed.
  • A minimized quest list will no longer maximize when you finish a quest.
  • Your camera view will no longer reset after using a pegasus or teleportal.
  • Berserkers will no longer experience a zoom-in when using a skill while they have certain axes equipped.
  • The NPC Tanseril in Scythera Fae is back from vacation.
  • Cutthroat Harbor's pegasus platform is now a no-PvP zone.
  • Tuebenius, a quest objective in Oblivion Woods, will now respawn with greater frequency to avoid long queues and the needless violence they engender.
  • Tool tips for pre-order and collector's edition items now display properly in Item Claim. Rank hath its privileges.
  • Using a charge skill while you have movement mapped to a mouse button will no longer turn on auto-run.
  • Chat text now updates properly when quotation marks are used. You can start quoting Shakespeare now.
  • Noxxionas Columns and mystics' totems interact properly now.
  • Brokerage searches have been cleaned up, and inaccurate tooltips in "recent history" have been fixed. The guilty prankster popori broker responsible has been duly chastised and sentenced to five years of city life.
  • Threatening crystals now stack properly.

I hit lv25 with my archer last night. The game is a whole lot of fun and I like the action bits. But now that I have hit the huge monster areas (quests like No Small Matter and Cores etc), my pace has slowed to a crawl. It is very hard to solo these guys.

There are other problems too. While most people playing are normal, WoW quality PUG players, there are genuine retards as well. People who invite you to your group to get some quests done, die and remain idling in a city somewhere.

I've been getting lucky with my parties who will stick around and help me grind through my quests.

Yeah, BAMs aren't meant to be soloed, though it is certainly possible with some patience most of the time. You should either grab at least a couple other players for those quests or skip them altogether, honestly.

I've received random party invitations out of nowhere and did a lot of quests with those groups. I haven't had the misfortune of having retards in my parties.

There something properly awesome that I love about this game - in the face of most, if not all other MMOs.

The gear you get, even from non-elite boss quests or dungeons, looks epic. I mean, I have played an uncanny amount of MMOs and never have I encountered equipment that looks good and feels so awesome.

I don't have any screens snapped at the moment, but my archer's armor is detailed and heavy, it feels heavy. The current bow is not horribly deformed, but it does have a distinct look. The same goes for my gloves/bracers and boots. I think I would actually go and run the Support Token quests ad nauseum to purchase the lower tier token armor sets. From what I have seen, they look properly good.

I think I will upload some screenshots later tonight - it's not like I am going to get into Diablo anyway.

It's one of my favorite parts of this game. Gear has specific art not just for race but gender on top of that, so everything is custom-tailored aesthetically for each combination. It really pays off in my opinion.

The only sad part about the gear is that you do not have a helmet or shoulder slot items. Then again, this might be just the WoW addict talking in me - that game has only shoulders and helmets that look interesting. The rest of WoW gear is just reskinned, boring common designs. I recently purchased the best Valor Point cape in WoW and it looks like a throwback to Burning Crusade designs. Worse than the Cataclysm quest items.

I'm rambling. Tera looks awesome. The amount I have played so far has made it the sleeper MMO hit of the year.

Yeah, there aren't shoulder slots since they're built into the chest armor. Helmets are reserved for cosmetic items (though I've never seen a player with a proper looking helmet, just silly hats/halos/masks etc).

Where can i take a look at these? i saw the Halo and only 'cause it was posted in this thread

@for Bams, i'm starting to just skip them 'cause finding a good party is becoming a huge problem, i'll just lvl up 3/4 extra level (paying attention to the max lvl for quest) then i'll go back to solo them...at least i'm not wasting 30 min per group quest to find people

Blood has returned to TERA! Just like during the CBT versions, you will once again have access to a slider in the options menu that allows you to display blood effects when slaying monsters.

Didn't know that, nice

3) Queue as group
When Dave Inc. and I tried to do our first instance yesterday we couldn't figure out how to queue as a group. He did something where when he clicked a button he immediately went into a queue, but it kicked me out of the group and he got a 15 minute debuff when he grouped back up with me. What did we do wrong?

Instance matching is as easy as forming a party and then having the leader queue up for the instance. You should only receive a debuff if you leave an instance matching group before the instance is cleared or if you are party leader and disband the group before clearing the instance. The debuff will prevent you from entering any instances for 15 minutes.

There are only two things I can think of that might cause a problem. One is attempting to queue up with inappropriate classes (e.g. two Lancers, two healers, etc.) and the other is attempting to queue up with someone that doesn't meet the requirements for the instance.

You will not be able to queue for dungeons as a group if anyone in your group does not meet the instance requirements. This can include quest progression, necessary items, and/or equipment ratings. For example, if the dungeon requires a gear rating of at least 120 and someone in your party is geared in equipment that is item level 100, you will not be able to queue with them until they obtain and equip the appropriate gear. In this scenario, you wouldn't even be able to start the instance matching system.

pretty sure the clock thing was just a bug.. there was a non-functioning display clock checkbox that now works.

I think the clock might have been part of the Argon update but didn't work in the NA version for some reason. I don't recall ever seeing the clock until after K-TERA's first Argon update.

I want a questing partner but I'm not online consistently enoguh, even if it's just an alt.

So I've been partying with strangers and so far everyone has said yes to partying and it's been fun!

As for all this dungeon/queuing stuff is there a clear writeup on their website about all these little rules and things? It's pretty confusing.

me so elegant

probably a bad idea to buy this game so close to Diablo 3. But still enjoying the game so far. Shouldn't have rolled a Priest though, kind of a lame class(at least early on)

Game looks sweet in Surround 5760x1080 though-

Ok, Tera-GAF

Convince me to buy this over SWToR

I come from an MMO background (lineage and GW primarily) so I can get around without fumbling too much, so ease of play can't count as one of your reasons.

I like that I'm not playing a game of watching countdown timers on the hotbars. I'm watching the game, watching the monster I'm fighting and waiting for it to give me a tell so I can block/dodge then attack. Active combat, not just tab 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4.

So far so good. Situational skills. That keeps it fresh. How approachable is it solo? I have such a lame busy schedule that I'm never able to really say, hey, I'll be on at 8, let's party up and tackle xyz. That's SWtoR's biggest advantage over any other MMO at this point. I can play alone on my own time and not be gimped

I guess I have no willpower or a victim of constantly changing my mine but thinking about actually getting the game. Ignore the story maybe and just focus on the combat and the world which I did enjoy a lot. I had issues with the interface in beta. I was running the game at 1280x1024, which is normally ideal for my screen. Text in the interface was to small for my taste until I made the UI bigger but that took to much of a screen. Is there anything that can be done to address that? A different resolution? 1280x720 maybe or something in the other direction? Higher? Or just messing around with the UI more?

I don't know, SWTOR has far more quests that are not soloable compared to Tera IIRC. I played a Vanguard to 60 and a Gunslinger to 40s and a lot of the bonus series quests require a party. On the other hand, the only quests that seem to require a party are the instances and BAM quests, and skipping the latter isn't so bad.

Honestly I'd go with Tera and roll something like a Slayer Or Sorc who can DPS mobs down incredibly fast and maybe even solo BAMs.

This is covered in the FAQ section of the OP but you can solo the entire game except for the instance dungeons. There is an automated cross-server instance matching system to facilitate groups for dungeons and an in-game LFG system where you can search and recruit members on your server for instances, BAMs, etc. Most BAM quests designed for parties are completely skippable if you don't have the time.

The only advantage SWTOR would have over TERA in my opinion is the story and Star Wars universe. Personally, I love the KOTR games and the Star Wars universe but did not like SWTOR.

Text scaling is still fucked. One thing that I found which helps quite a bit is scaling each piece of the UI individually. I have now scaled down most of my UI to about 50% while keeping the text mostly normal.

Was afraid of that. I guess I'll have to deal with it. Has it been said this would be addressed at some point?
